Elly Kleinman: Megalomania grabs the reigns of Torah Inc…again!

Guest Post by “Martin Elly Kleinman wants your prostate”

Image 1: Elly Kleinman, super-salesman of the day

Image 2: “Thank You” letter published by Agudath Israel after the recent “89th Dinner” notice that Elly Kleinman is just above the “89” as if he were the “center” of this world (which he is trying to be and they are falling for it). One over to Kleinman on the right is his son Yossi and one over is Aron Kotler Jr. CEO of Lakewood yeshiva Inc.

(First in a series)

It seems that nowadays wherever one turns in the Torah world of Agudath Israel of America and way beyond, such as in Chabad and even in Religious Zionist circles the name of Elly Kleinman, CEO of the “Americare” companies seems to have become like a ubiquitous octopus with untold tentacles!

Elly Kleinman’s name, often in conjunction with his wife Bruchie’s, is all over the place if one lives in the “Oilem HaTorah Sesame Street .” The Kleinmans sponsor endless reams of this and that and the other tomes of the ArtScroll publishing company. They are constantly spreading their largesse over a wide spectrum of Torah institutions and causes that are often at loggerheads with each other. They will give to Chabad and Jerusalem reclamation projects as easily as they will donate to high powered Washington DC politicians of various ilks and beliefs.

Litvish Roshei Yeshiva, Chasidic Rebbes, Executive Directors of myriads of causes count the Kleinmans as their friends. This has taken on a life of its own to the point that the name “Kleinman” is virtually expected to be attached to causes like some sort of “seal of approval” when it’s nothing of the sort.

Funny, but we have been here before quite a few times in recent living memory.

Not so long ago, another overly-zealous billionaire (Tom Kaplan) aided and abetted by his nephew (Guma Aguiar) came along and hit the Orthodox-news headlines with a hidden agenda of taking remote control over the world of Torah in the name of “raising the standards of conversion” by buying off almost every Bais Din and Posek in the world with freely-distributed tens of millions of dollars. It resulted in one of the greatest catastrophes to befall the Torah world when the one (Leib Tropper) who was supposedly running this operation for years was unmasked as an immoral conniving fraud who was trading sexual favors for himself and his buddies in exchange for conversions as well as pocketing millions as he went along.

Tom Kaplan and Guma Aguiar were praised and hailed by the Moetzes rabbis in America and Israel when with Tropper they were pumping tens of millions into those rabbis’ worlds. They also supported many causes outside of Aguda-type rabbis and institutions, such as Chabad, Holocaust remembrance and Israeli causes to the tune of tens of millions of dollars through their private family foundations just as Elly Kleinman is doing now. But after the Tropper sex-scandal fiasco the fakery and fraudulence and EGO-mania of Tropper-Kaplan-Aguiar was revealed in all its nakedness and they have slinked off into the dark.

Before those guys, there was the notorious case of David Schick who was praised by the American Agudists as their “savior” for pumping in tens of millions into their coffers and pet causes. Only problem was that David Schick was revealed to be a huge financial fraudster who had ripped off anyone he had came into contact with. It was reported to be more than $350 million that he denuded trusting banks and “bakante” (close friends) alike. After all, Schick was an attorney, “sworn” to uphold the law, right? Wrong! He was sued, tried and went to jail for his still-unsolved mega-crimes, and the Agudists were revealed to be the suckers and dumb-bells whom Schick had taken along for the ride of their lives. To this day his name is anathema among the frum world where he lived. But it seems that people have chosen to forget this too. Kleinman is counting and working with this selective amnesia and “sha-shtil” mentality among the frum oilem goilem!

Then before this there were the vaunted Reichmann brothers who through their vast real estate property-holdings’ profits and wealth, bankrolled Torah causes to the tune of tens of millions. They supplied Agudist institutions in America and Israel with tens of millions. It is said that they gave Rav Elazar Shach in Israel a no-strings-attached “spending account” with carte blanche to allocate the millions of dollars as he saw fit. This all came crashing down when the Reichmanns lost the bulk of their world-wide real-estate empire in a crash so big that at the time books were written that the Reichmanns were “Too Big To Fall” and they thereby consequently extorted unheard of concessions from the banks they were beholden to because the banks had too much to lose with the collapse of the Reichmanns’ real-estate wealth. People have long forgotten those vanished “false messiahs” that turned out to be a king size flash-in-the-pans! So Kleinman can take heart that not only do his type of people “see no evil” but they will “talk no evil” and “do no evil” to him, as he has already amply shown as he wiggles out of case after case that’s comes at him!

Then there was the rise of Abraham Fruchthandler who had allied himself with the Reichmanns but had made lots of his own vast wealth. Fruchthandler was whispered and expected to be the great “power-that-be” behind the scenes of Agudath Israel and related causes. But then came Fruchthandler’s machinations with his friend Aron Schechter in the way the humiliated, disgraced and “fired” their own yeshiva’s mashgiach ruchani. For these halachic offenses they were summoned by no less than Aguda head Rav Moshe Feinstein for a din Torah to explain and defend their unjust actions which they have refused to do that it turned them into virtual silent pariahs in the eyes of the very Aguda world they purportedly led and supported. Even though people fear to talk openly to them about this, but no one who knows respects them because of that. They keep a low profile and it seems that many have chosen to forget that as well. Similarly, the Kleinman family acts with utter disregard for what the world may say about the younger Yossi Kleinman having committed a grave great sin when he had an affair with a married woman and then dumped his unsuspecting wife and married his mistress even though halacha forbids it since this is case of a Sotah (“another’s wife accused of adultery”) but the Kleinmans act as if this never happened, the world be damned.

So now comes Mr. Elly Kleinman (there are a few others with him, but he is a “star” in his own right) as a kind of “Tom Kaplan-Leib Tropper-David Schick-Reichmann-Fruchthandler” rolled into one!

He has exhibited the symptoms and attributes of all of them at one time or another. Like Tom Kaplan he likes to see his name in the headlines and headlights. Like Leib Tropper he and his son Yossi have been accused of sexual misconduct and have had to settle law suits for that. Like David Schick he’s had to face serious accusations of legal wrong-doing, from having his company paying out legal settlements for the cutting out of the prostates of dozens of mentally ill men who did not need it, to being fined and settling for various cases of financial fraud with Medicaid and Medicare cases in the many millions.

Obviously Kleinman got off the hook from going to jail because he hired better and smarter lawyers than David Schick who is a lawyer himself. And like the Reichmanns and the Fruchthandlers, the Kleinmans function “above the law” in a world of their own making out as if they were “absolutist royals” since they want to and are viewed as the financial “messiahs” of the Aguda and Torah world and beyond by strategically spreading their name and wealth.

But above and beyond all this, from the Kleinmans’ point of view it’s also all part of a very shrewd “business model” that the obviously very business savvy Elly Kleinman has drawn up. That is, that he always lets it be known that he offers all sorts of “services” for sick and aged through his “Americare” companies throughout the New York state area where most of America’s religious and other Jews still live with large aging populations.

By wrapping himself in false outward “robes of righteousness” Elly Kleinman projects an “aura” of “benefactor” of the Torah and Jewish causes he decides to support. He obviously directs and micro-manages the PR and advertising campaigns of the New York medical health market he thinks he knows so well. But inwardly, this charade, megalomania and near false messianism cannot go on for much longer before it too crashes down like the Tropper, Kaplan, Schick, Reichmann, Fruchthandler and other false prophets who were revealed to be crooks and perverters of both legal justice and simple human decency. For now Kleinman can go on “acting” and “huffing and puffing” on his stages at the various venues in Lakewood, Flatbush, Boro Park, Crown Heights, The Five Towns, Jerusalem, On You Tube, Google, the Internet and wherever else he may choose to “touch down” with his self-promoting egotistical show. The only one he is really fooling is himself, as time is bound to tell!

We know already that the OK Kosher Labs lets clients get away with a lot, even more if they are fellow Lubavitchers, and the most if they are Lubavitchers with protectzia.

It is therefore no surprise then how Basil restaurant gets away with this. Owner Danny Branover is a Lubavitcher but maybe he should not be that untouchable since he is a baal teshuvah.

But he is not just any baal teshuva

Here is a picture of him sitting with his shver, Lubavitcher billionaire Sholom Ber Drizin. Drizin pumped millions into Agri to keep Rubashkin afloat for a while after the raid.

Now you know that Basil restaurant is REALLY untouchable.

Comment #1 has a point. While the anti-Kleinman blogger is right about a lot of things including his attacks on Tropper, Chaim Berlin, NJOP, etc, he is a very bitter person and gets a lot of things wrong. He defended the phony David Weprin and attacked Bob Turner who is one of the Jewish people's best friends in Congress.

In the anti-Kleinman piece, the blogger is distorting the facts about Moshe Reichmann. Reichmann was forced into bankruptcy by the corrupt British government who lured him into a trap at Canary Wharf with false promises. The project collapsed when the government reneged on building mass transit lines out to that no man's land. Under British law, the real estate was then seized by the same government. This started the ripple effect that collapsed Olympia & York.

Toronto Life Magazine did a front page story that was very damaging to Reichmann. It quoted a bunch of anonymous tipsters, mostly modern orthodox angry that Reichmann wouldn't give a dime to YU or Zionist causes, who outright slandered with no basis. Reichmann prevailed in his slander suit against the magazine.

There is nothing wrong if Reichmann let Rav Schach distribute money.

I get the post, though it is a bit simple in its juxtuposition of every wealthy Jew who has ever supported causes. The writer certainly has an envy problem, which is pitiable.

I do not understand the lumping of the Reichmann family in with some of the others. They had a sterling business reputation and it seems their big "avlah" was going bust, not one of the 613 last I checked. Their generosity was often done quietly and the problem here is that the Agudists drooled over them. So what?

I don't know Mr. Kleinman. If he is generous, that's what he is supposed to be. (I assume the writer also has problems with the wealthy who are stingy.) If he is doing something wrong, let those facts stand on their own. No need to link him to other failed askanim.

The whole tone of the article was simply nasty, contrived and unconvincing because it was a jealous laundry list. Yawn.

Speaking of Steve Greenberg, has anyone noticed the blogger "Litvish" who came out of the closet last week on Shmarya's blog? "Litvish" claims that R' Aron Kotler's talmid Dov Lesser gave him a heter to have toaivah homo sex and that Steve Greenberg received the same heter from a Sephardic Torah giant.

He was challenged for waiting until Rabbi Lesser died and that Greenberg has never named anyone giving him a heter. Greenberg merely makes his own krum diyukim to justify it.

I think it was the Whatsa Matta guy who Shmarya pulled the plug on that pointed out that Lesser's son Bully is in jail on fraud & theft charges. Litvish is crying foul that BMG made Lesser irrelevant.

The following report brings to mind the quote by a notorious gangster when he was asked why he always robbed banks who said "'Cause that's where the money is!"

But now that money is becoming worthless with inflation, poverty and cash shortages at peak levels, the new "currency" is technology that now comes in handy wallet sized and pick-pocket ready:

New York Daily News:

"NYPD: Thefts of smartphones and iPads now more prevalent than cash as criminals turn focus on electronics

Cops say half of all NYC robberies this year involved trendy gadgets

BY Rocco Parascandola

[Photo caption: Police are planning to crack down on gadget theft with sting operations, record-keeping and a legislative push to disable the devices.]

An eCrime wave is sweeping the city with iPads, smartphones and other pricey devices now more popular with Big Apple thieves than even cold hard cash, cops say.

Half of the nearly 16,000 robberies in New York over the first 10 months of this year involved the trendy gadgets — mostly cell phones, an NYPD study found.

“This makes electronics the single most stolen property type, surpassing even hard currency,” says the report.

The thieves’ most wanted gadget is the iPhone, which accounts for over 70% of all stolen cell phones on subways and buses, the NYPD analysis reveals.

Computers, tablets and MP3 players also account for nearly half the burglaries and 35% of all grand larcenies citywide, police said.

" “The problem of electronic device theft has grown exponentially, but can and must be controlled,” the report warns.

And the numbers are much likely worse, the police report says, because police record-keeping — hampered by poor report-taking and forms lacking more descriptive terminology — needs to be improved.

“We cannot identify what devices are stolen where or at what times,” the report says.

The internal report, ordered by Deputy Commissioner of Operations Patrick Timlin and obtained exclusively by the Daily News, lays out a multipronged strategy to combat the surge in smartphone ripoffs.

The proposed solutions? Better record-keeping, more sting operations and a legislative push to disable stolen devices.

Sen. Chuck Schumer in August called on phone carriers to mimic their counterparts in Western Europe, where a single database stores each device’s identification number and existing technology disables a stolen device.

He has recommended a “blacklist” so stolen devices can’t be used with any network. In the U.S., carriers will shut off a stolen phone, but thieves armed with a different SIM card can still use the phone.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has said that cell phone companies have balked at the high cost of using the technology so the NYPD will push for legislation that would force carriers to adopt the European system.

The high price tag and high demand of personal computer products have created a black market around the city, where thieves sell the ill-gotten goods to shady pawnshops and bodegas that launder them for sale locally and abroad, according to the report.

Police plan to conduct reverse stings, having cops pose as thieves looking to sell stolen devices to bodegas, some of which are known to offer teens $100 for anything they can steal, sources said.

The report also calls for a public awareness campaign that includes movie theater announcements and airing in the subway system videos of actual thefts so straphangers can learn to protect their property.

“It’s a sound strategy designed to suppress larcenies on several fronts simultaneously,” Kelly said of the report.

New Yorkers have been well-aware of the crime trend.

Sheba Clayman, 30, of Astoria, said she keeps her iPhone in her pockets at all times.

“I just take it out of my pocket to make a call or check emails and it goes back into my pant pockets,” Clayman said. “I know people are stealing them more than before. A lot of my friends have had theirs stolen.”

With Edgar Sandoval"

In case anyone thinks this is just a NYC "East Coast" problem, like the OWS movement, this is also a West Coast problem as it is all over. It's a lot easier to steal expensive devices than stealing big cars and taking them to chop shops and ship the parts undercover.

Cars, like cash, are trash too when compared to technology.

Thieves would rather have the digital things in your car, than run off with a rusting hulk that can't be used or hidden or sold so quick:

San Francisco Chronicle:

"SF smart phone muggings on the rise

C.W. Nevius, Chronicle Columnist

Thursday, December 1, 2011

[Photo caption: Officers search a backpack after they make an arrest near Powell and Market streets in San Francisco, an area known as ground zero for stolen goods.]

Your smart phone might get you punched in the face.

Cell phone robberies take place with alarming frequency all over the city, and although the police are working on the problem, there isn't much they can do about this quick, random, lucrative crime that's replaced purse and wallet snatching.

Official police statistics show that there were more than 40 cell phone muggings in November. The number may not seem high, but it is unsettling with just a portion of the crimes reported, and virtually all of them involve a gun, knife or physical assault.

"You're focused on your phone, talking, and you get sucker punched," said Tenderloin Station Capt. Joe Garrity.

Police reports read like an urban nightmare: punched repeatedly in the face, gun to head, grabbed by hoodie, thrown down ... hit with metal pipe, victim in wheelchair.

"They prey on the weak - women, handicapped, impaired and young kids," said Sgt. Mark Obrochta, who heads the undercover division at the Tenderloin Station.

I rode along on a sting operation Wednesday, which was focused on Market Street, between Fifth and Seventh streets. Garrity calls the corridor ground zero for stolen property, where you can get an iPhone 4S for $300-$400. Often, Obrochta says, the demand is global, and buyers ship the product overseas.

In one sense, our sting operation was incredibly successful. The undercover officer trying to sell an iPhone that he told people was stolen had a buyer in less than five minutes. No wonder the corner of Seventh and Market is called the Walmart of stolen phones. Obrochta says when they get a report of a cell phone mugging, they often go straight there to look for someone matching the suspect's description.

But when the team swooped down on the buyer, he had disappeared into a store with several friends. When he emerged, he didn't have the phone. With a positive identification from three undercover officers and the circumstantial evidence of some $1,400 in bills in the suspect's pocket, Obrochta was confident in making an arrest.

But the police know this won't stop the pervasive crime. Word gets out quickly that the cops are on the prowl. That shuts down the market for a few days, especially when the guy who is arrested turns out to be a regular offender.
Better odds"

"The truth is, the smart phone is the low-hanging fruit for roaming thugs. With debit cards in universal use, the average person isn't carrying much cash. The high-tech cell phone is probably the most valuable item you carry on the street.

"It's the modern day purse snatch - with better odds," said Obrochta. "With a purse, you never knew what you were getting."

Victims make it easy by walking down the street, holding out the phone while texting or searching for directions. "First, I am showing you that I have a nice fancy phone," said Brian Cooley, editor at large for Cnet. "And second, I am demonstrating that I do not have good situational awareness."

Cooley says he is amazed that people don't set a password on the phone for security or get insurance for a replacement. He adds that there are phone-tracker programs that will let you know where your phone is, allow you to send a message and even do a "remote wipe."

But unsophisticated muggers are probably just looking to wipe the data anyhow. They ditch the SIM card - canceling the tracker - "jailbreak" the phone with computer software to make it available for any phone network and sell it.

Recognition system

The techie dream is that some kind of recognition system would make it pointless to steal a phone. There has been talk of voice recognition, facial imagery or even detecting the owner's heartbeat. Apple has long been rumored to be working on facial recognition.

But Cooley said when an Android device debuted face recognition, some bright fellow held up a photo of the owner and was promptly approved.

"It would have to be something 3-D, so it is not fooled by a flat image," Cooley said. "Everyone is looking for the next layer of magic."

Magic, unfortunately, takes time. For now, the best move is to keep your smart phone in your smart pocket."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard today went on to a war footing as its commander upped his troops' readiness for operations.

The move by General Mohammed Ali Jaafari, coming after the shooting down of a U.S. drone and the ransacking of the British embassy in Tehran, will raise fears among citizens in the West that the Islamists are escalating towards major conflict.

But following on from mysterious explosions at Iranian nuclear sites, the kidnapping and assassination of scientists and possible sabotage of computers using a virus, an increasing number of experts are suggesting that combat has already broken out - a '21st century war'.

[Photo caption: Operational status: Iran's Revolutionary Guard have been put on a war footing by the country's spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over fears of an attack by the West on its nuclear facilities]

The key area of dispute is Iran's rapidly expanding nuclear programme from which President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad insists he will not budge 'one iota'.

Sanctions and mounting international pressure appear to have failed to persuade the country to slow down its pursuit of uranium enrichment.

And many observers believe the blowing-up of facilities and targeting of key scientists is a more direct way of halting their ambitions.

Patrick Clawson, of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said he was under no illusion as to what was occurring.

He told the Los Angeles Times: 'It looks like the 21st century form of war.

'It does appear that there is a campaign of assassinations and cyber war, as well as the semi-acknowledged campaign of sabotage.' What is not clear is whose hand is behind the 'attacks' on Iran's nuclear sites.

One retired U.S. official, with up to date intelligence, told the National Journal: 'It's safe to say the Israelis are very active.'

He added about U.S. efforts: 'Everything that [GOP presidential candidate] Mitt Romney said we should be doing - tough sanctions, covert action and pressuring the international community - are all of the things we are actually doing.'

On November 12, a huge explosion flattened the Revolutionary Guard base at Bid Kaneh, killing 17 people including a founder of Iran's ballistic missile programme.

A separate blast last week badly damaged the uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan.

Two nuclear physicists were killed and Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, were wounded by bombs attached to their cars or detonated near them last year.

[Photo caption: Advanced: Iran claimed yesterday to have shot down a U.S. high-tech RQ-170 drone. There are fears the regime could gain stealth technology information if they have secured the drone]

Mark Hibbs, a nuclear expert at the Carnegie Endowment in Germany, said the intensity of the covert war indicated that this is where the U.S. and Israel are putting their energy for now.

He said: 'If the U.S. or Israel were determined to take Iran’s nuclear installations out they wouldn’t be wasting time pinpointing individual scientists like this.'

But, he pointed out, Israel’s 1981 attack on Iraq’s Osirak reactor was also preceded by assassination attempts on Iraqi scientists.

Hibbs said: 'Some of the concern in the expert community is that in going down this route we’re unleashing forces we cannot control.' That is seen as a reference to the Stuxnet computer worm which infected the nuclear facilities in 2010, and was believed to be the work of U.S and Israeli engineers.

But a source senior within the Obama administration indicated that the U.S. was not involved in every action. He added: 'I wouldn’t assume that everything we do is coordinated.'

Abbasi-Davani accused Great Britain, Israel and the U.S. of conducting attacks on him and other Iranian scientists.

He told a news conference at the annual conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna: 'Six years ago the intelligence service of the UK began collecting information and data regarding my past, my family, the number of children.'

It was the IAEA which produced a report detailing how close Iran was to producing the bomb that has racheted up tension between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks.

It culminated last week with the storming of the British embassy, during which time staff were held hostage and more than £1 million of damage caused, and led Britain to expel Iranian diplomats.

Seeing pictures of the Royal Family torn and historic paintings broken only served to fuel the enmity between the countries.

Dominick Chilcott, Britain's ambassador to Iran who lost his dog in the incident, accused the Iranians of supporting it. That theory appeared founded when the handful of protesters arrested were released without charge earlier this week.

[Photo caption: Damage: A shattered window in the office of the British Embassy. Several other countries withdrew their ambassadors after the attack last week, which came in response to further sanctions on Iran's nuclear programme]

Then, on Sunday, Bahrain's interior ministry announced that an explosion occurred inside a minibus parked near the British Embassy. However, there were no injuries.

Furthermore, a plot to kill the Saudi Ambassador to Washington was uncovered and foiled in the U.S. with America blaming the Iranians, who were celebrating at the weekend the latest in the round of tit-for-tat propaganda victories with the downing on a U.S. drone so hi-tech that no pictures of it have ever been released.

'This is a big prize in terms of technology,' a senior U.S. military source said after the downing of the RQ-170 drone.

The Iranian news agency said it was show down after illegally crossing the country's eastern border, although a U.S. military official said it had 'absolutely no indication' the drone was shot down.

Neither the Air Force nor manufacturer Lockheed Martin has released much information about the plane, which was dubbed The Beast of Kandahar in 2007 when its existence was finally confirmed.

Early reports suggested that the plane - which supposedly has a wingspan of about 65ft and can fly at around 50,000ft - would be made almost entirely without metal to help it dodge radar.

The White House declined to comment but officials did not seem unduly alarmed, suggesting that the drone's capture would not provide Iran with significant information about U.S. surveillance technology and techniques."

[Photo caption: Defiant: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said he country will not budge from its nuclear programme, which he insists is for peaceful means]

Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council in Washington, said the build-up of incidents 'add up to a very worrisome picture'.

This was, he said, in part because 'the Iranians are absorbing all of these assassinations without seeing the pace of their nuclear program slow down to the extent it would be acceptable to the West.'

But if Iranian retaliations grow serious enough, he said, they could provide 'the pretext for a much larger war' in which the Israelis, and possibly the Americans, launch a full attack on Iran.

Gen Jaafari responded by ordering Revolutionary Guard units to move long-range Shahab missile to prevent them being targeted.

[Photo caption: A protest slogan opposite the Houses of Parliament in London. Many fear Israel could take preemptive action to halt Iran's nuclear programme]

The Iranian air force has also been carrying out exercises to respond to any attack from the air and says it will deal seriously with any further incursions into its airspace.

Amid all this comes a report today compiled by the American Enterprise Institute for Publc Policy Research (AEI) that suggested Western efforts to stop Iran getting nuclear weapons had a real chance of failing.

The report says the U.S. would have to 'lead an international effort to contain Iran and deter the Islamic Republic from using its nuclear capability'. The conservative think-tank will release its report, 'Containing and Deterring a Nuclear Iran', later today.

Vice President Danielle Pletka told Foreign Policy Magazine: 'The report is very much an acknowledgement of the very real possibility of failure of the strategy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and any responsible party should recognise that failure is an option.'

The report says Iran could realise its nuclear ambitions before the 2012 U.S. presidential election, with the Obama administration reticent to sanction action before the November ballot.

But other Middle East countries have insisted Iran does not represent a threat to the West.

UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum told CNN: 'I don't believe that Iran will develop a nuclear weapon. Will they hit Israel? How many Palestinians will die? And you think if Iran hits Israel, their cities will be safe? They will be gone the next day.'

[Photo caption: Backlash: Sanctions on Iran's nuclear industry were heightened after a report was published last month which revealed the Islamic Republic was likely to be developing nuclear weapons]"

Defense Minister says in a television interview that no option should be taken off the table, yet said he does not think a clandestine war has already begun.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Saturday that Iran is getting closer to developing a nuclear bomb, and that new and more crippling sanctions should be imposed on the Islamic Republic.

Speaking on "Meet the Press," a Channel 2 program, Barak denied however that the latest blasts that occurred in Iran mark the beginning of a military campaign. Barak said actions against Iran are being carried out in the diplomatic sphere, through sanctions and through the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). When asked if a clandestine war against Iran has already begun, he replied: "I think the answer to that is no."

"Iran is getting close to the bomb, and the sanctions should be quick, focused and stronger," Barak said. "We can't wait and say – we'll see if they have a bomb, and then we'll act. What if by then we will not be able to act?"

In response to U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta' speech yesterday, in which he urged Israel not to act alone against Iran, Barak said Panetta's full message is more complex than that.

"We are in constant dialogue with the Americans," he said, "I've met Panetta about a dozen times over the last two or three years. In person we hold more intensive talks."

Barak said the entire international community agrees that the diplomatic course and the use of sanctions must be exhausted, yet added that "no option should be taken off the table. Israel is responsible for its security, its future and its existence."

He also responded to recent statements by senior Israeli officials, who warned against a military strike on Iran and criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's conduct.

"The prime minister and I don't make decisions alone," he said. "Every decision is made after hearing (the opinions) of all bodies, professionals and (after reviewing) recommendations." Barak said there is room for public debate about the Iranian nuclear program, but the way in which the discourse is taking place is harmful.

Asked about the victory of the Islamic parties in the Egyptian elections, Barak said that "the Islamization process in Arab countries is very disturbing. It is too early to tell how these changes will affect the area. I hope any government formed in Egypt will understand there is no choice but to maintain the framework of international agreements, which include the peace agreement with Israel."

On the topic of the deadlock in talks between Israel and the Palestinians, Barak said Israel sees talks as one of its main objectives.

"Anyone who reads between the lines can see a change in the Israeli position. The government is willing to hold direct negotiations at any moment, with no preconditions. We have to move toward negotiations, but things don't happen in an empty space," he said.

He also added he is willing to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas "right now." "

"Kim Kardashian the Butt of Kristin Chenoweth's Joke

December 06, 2011 05:20 PM EST

by Aida Ekberg

Kim Kardashian [Elly Kleinman] became the butt [tush] of Kristin Chenoweth's [Yiddisher Blogosphere] visual joke [gelechter] at the American Country Awards [Agudath Israel Dinner] last night. So should Kim [Elly] be offended by Kristin's [Yiddisher's] heavily-padded jeans [hoizen]?

Kim [Elly] might have nothing to do with country [heimish] music, but she's [he's] become such a hot topic that even country [blogosphere] stars can't help but mock her [him]. At the CMAs [UOJs], Eric Stonestreet [Emunas Yisroel], Carrie Underwood [Nachman Mibreslov], and Brad Paisley [Chia Hashiloni] mocked Kim [Elly] with a song [liddel] about her [his] 72-day marriage, and now even sweetheart Kristin Chenoweth [Yiddisher Bologosphere] can't help but poke fun at the reality show star.

Trace Adkins [Lipa Shmeltzer] came onstage at the American Country Awards [Orthodox Union Dinner] claiming that he was forced to get a cohost to keep him in line after his behavior last year. However, he called his cohost an "opponent," and Kristin [Yiddisher] came on stage dressed like a boxer [goilem] ready to have it out with Trace [Lipa] (the boxing [goilem] reference was apparently because the show took place in Las Vegas [Boro Park], where all the biggest boxing [goilem] matches take place).

Kristin [Yiddisher] challenged him to a sing off, choosing the song "Oklahoma" [Ashanda] from the Broadway [Miamiboys] musical for her cohost. Trace Adkins [Lipa Shmeltzer] handled the challenge fairly well, but he wasn't prepared for his tune like Kristin [Yiddisher] was for hers — he challenged the "Four Feet of Fury" to sing his hit song "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk."

Kristin Chenoweth [Yiddisher Blogospher] wasn't just prepared with musical accompaniment — she came loaded with a backside [tush] that would rival Kim Kardashian's [Elly Kleinman's] moneymaker [geltmacher].

She and Trace [Lipa] never referenced Kim [Elly], but it's kind of obvious Kristin [Yiddisher] was somewhat mocking her [him] — Kristin [Yiddisher] and Kim [Elly] are about the same height, so the Glee [Uoj] star's modified body shape certainly resembled Kim's [Elly's]. However, Kristin's [Yiddisher's] butt [tush] padding was so profuse it looked like it could have made her fall on her back, where she'd be stuck on the floor like a turtle lying on its shell.

So should Kim Kardashian [Elly Kleinamn] be offended? If she's [he's] stupid enough to complain, all the writers of the skit have to claim is that Kristin Chenoweth's [Yiddisher Blogosphere] big butt [tush] was just a reference to the song [niggun] she was singing. And the audience probably preferred Kristin's [Yiddisher's] fake backside [tushy] paired with some real talent over Kim's [Elly's] real backside [tuches] paired with a fake reality show star.

Check out Kristin's [Yiddisher's] performance below — her bit with Trace Adkins [Lipa Shmeltzer] starts at the 2:15 mark..."

Judging from some of Kelsey's rants, he was turned off from Yiddishkeit at least in part due to having a difficult time in shidduchim and anger over his perception of being stigmatized as a ben niddah.

There was only one major posek who viewed ben niddah as an insurmountable flaw and he is the only major posek who absolutely assered reporting molesters to the police. Everyone else said the pgam either does not afflict those who become baalei teshuvah or they have overcome it. This of course does not stop ignorant and shallow people from following their whims instead of the poskei hador.

Of course many BTs who have this chip on their shoulder are just plain weird which is the real reason why they couldn't marry the girl of their dreams from a nice frum home. They then take it out on the frum world with a vengeance and look for every contrived excuse to mudsling. What I just described is very applicable to Shmarya.

I could name you some major magidei shiur in the yeshiva world who came from secular roots to doing a top shidduch from a rabbonishe family. The Kelseys and Shmaryas out there are clusters of sour grapes.

Valerie Carlton fled to Monsey last year after being released from a Maryland jail when state prosecutors dropped 28 felony charges of sexual abuse involving two young girls for lack of credible evidence.

Maryland authorities have pursued Carlton to Monsey on a charge of assaulting a correction officer during her 13-month solitary confinement in the Hartford County jail.

Carlton, 42, an Orthodox Jewish divorced mother of a 6-year-old girl, has been held for about a month in the Rockland County jail pending an extradition hearing on a fugitive from justice warrant lodged by the state attorney in Hartford County.

She is fighting extradition.

Carlton's supporters argue Hartford County prosecutors filed false sexual abuse charges and are continuing their attempt to imprison her on false assault charges.

The Hartford County state attorney denied the accusations.

Carlton's supporters contend the false charges evolved from her divorce from her abusive husband, a Baptist from an evangelical family, and when she became an Orthodox Jew in 2005 and later tried raising their 6-year-old daughter in the faith during her visitation times.

They argue her ex-husband was aided by a neighbor in facilitating false sex abuse charges so the husband could get full custody of the couple's daughter.

A dozen of her supporters from Monsey rallied on her behalf outside the Rockland County Courthouse on Thursday.

"It's a travesty of justice that they continue to pursue her on a misdemeanor charge," said Michael Ettinger, one of her lawyers who has a Nyack office.

"She was vilified by the state prosecutor and media as a pedophile," Ettinger said. "She was put in solitary for her own protection from other inmates. She was abused and tortured by the guards in solitary."

The characterization of the criminal charges and her treatment was vehemently denied by Hartford County State Attorney Joseph Cassilly, who prosecuted the sexual abuse charges against Carlton.

Cassilly acknowledged the abuse charges were dropped. He said the girls changed their accounts and were not remembering what they had earlier told investigators.

Cassilly said he couldn't discuss details that he said involved two girls, ages 5 and 6 from January 2008 to April 2009.

The grand jury indictment in June 2009 also included charges of attempted kidnapping and extortion.

Cassilly said Carlton and her supporters are misrepresenting the facts and trying to make her a martyr.

"No one is going after her because of her religion," Cassilly said. "Her husband has no political influence. The case didn't work out well. The thought was we're not going to make this case and put the child through this."

He said the assault charge came while she was being held on $10 million bail. He said after the sex abuse charges were dismissed Carlton was released and promised to stay with an advocate in the community to face the assault charge, but instead fled.

He said the assault was captured on surveillance video at the jail, among other evidence and witnesses.

"She should have stayed and settled the case, if she had a problem," Cassilly said. "I don't have too many assaults in the jail." He added they were pursuing the charge.

Ettinger said a forensic review of the video reveals the correction officer attacked Carlton and she defended herself. She was holding a pen and left marks on the officer.

Her supporters also filed a letter in Rockland County court in which a Maryland public defender says he was told by a jail officer that Carlton was being targeted by correction officers.

Cassilly said he wasn't aware of the letter from attorney Roger Malik nor did he give credibility to an anonymous officer supposedly talking to Malik.

Ettinger said Cassilly wanted Carlton to plead to being not criminally responsible to the sex abuse counts. She refused and got a private lawyer, and after some months the charges were dismissed rather than go to trial.

Ettinger criticized the prosecution, saying a child originally told investigators about an event that occurred eight months earlier and her answers were contradictory.

Carlton had watched the neighbor's girl and the girl's mother had made previous accusations against others, Ettinger said.

Dr. Mark J. Mills, a forensic psychiatrist, said in a letter that his evaluation of Carlton found she is not psychotic, not dangerous and it is extremely unlikely that she would commit sexual abuse on her child or any other child.

Mills also wrote that he reviewed the transcripts testimony by the two girls and found no credible evidence of abuse.

The letters were sent to Lenore Rosen, a Maryland-based advocate for abused women and an Orthodox Jew who is supporting Carlton. Rosen spoke at the rally on Thursday.

She said when Carlton became an observant Jew she was punished physically and lost custody of her daughter.

Rosen said Carlton's husband was convicted of hitting her, but not jailed, and has admitted he wants full custody of their daughter.

Cassilly said Carlton was released to stay with Rosen. U.S. Marshals were used to find Carlton in Monsey and arrested her as a fugitive.

Carlton's lawyer in Rockland is Phil Murphy, who said he will seek to have her released on bail pending the extradition proceeding. The case is before state Supreme Court Justice William Kelly.

Murphy said returning Carlton to Maryland could be hazardous, saying "from all objective measures she appears to have been subjected to abuse and torture while in the custody of Maryland."

"Nobody gets charged with 28 counts of child sex abuse and then sees the case dismissed if there was a credible case to begin with," Murphy said.

Murphy said he found the prosecution's position unsustainable on the assault charges, saying there's no evidence that the correction officer was hurt.

Before an extradition hearing can take place, the Maryland governor must send documents to New York's governor seeking Carlton's return.

No such papers have come to the Rockland District Attorney's Office, which will represent Maryland on the extradition issue, not the charges.

Shooting the messenger 1 said...

To those who can't focus on the subject at hand but ignore it with rants with useless speculation about nothing important, like animals clutching at the peels while throwing away the fruits (and thinking they're "clever" yet), here's a reminder from Wikipedia:

"Shooting the messenger

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Shooting the messenger" is a metaphoric phrase used to describe the act of lashing out at the (blameless) bearer of bad news.

In earlier times, messages were usually delivered in person by a human envoy. Sometimes, as in war, for example, the messenger was sent from the enemy camp. An easily provoked combatant receiving such an overture could more easily vent anger (or otherwise retaliate) on the deliverer of the unpopular message than on its author.

In modern usage, the expression still refers to any kind of punishment meted out to the person bringing bad news, but has taken on an ironic dimension as well. Nevertheless "it is still worth a man's neck to disturb an emperor's image. Nowadays the axe falls more subtly and the execution may be postponed, but sooner or later it comes".[1]

"Attacking the messenger" is a subdivision of the ad hominem logical fallacy.

Origins of the concept

The advice "Don't shoot the messenger" was first expressed (very obliquely) by Shakespeare in Henry IV, part 2 (1598)[2] and in Antony and Cleopatra: when told Antony has married another, Cleopatra threatens to treat the messenger's eyes as balls, eliciting the response 'gracious madam, I that do bring the news made not the match'.[3] Prior to that, a related sentiment was expressed in Antigone by Sophocles as "No one loves the messenger who brings bad news".[4]

Plutarch's Lives has this line: "The first messenger that gave notice of Lucullus's coming was so far from pleasing Tigranes that he had his head cut off for his pains; and no man daring to bring further information, without any intelligence at all, Tigranes sat while war was already blazing around him, giving ear only to those who flattered him...".[5]

An analogy of the phrase can come from the breaching of an invisible code of conduct in war, where a commanding officer was expected to receive and send back emissaries or diplomatic envoys sent by the enemy unharmed. During the early Warring States period of China, the concept of chivalry and virtue prevented the executions of messengers sent by opposing sides.

The term also applied to a town crier, an officer of the court who made public pronouncements in the name of the ruling monarch. This often included bad news, such as tax increases. Harming a town crier was considered to be treason.[6]"

From Wikipedia:

"Shooting the messenger

Freud and defence

Freud considered shooting the messenger a 'marginal case of this kind of defence...of fending off what is distressing or unbearable' - citing the example of 'the famous lament of the Spanish Moors Ay de mi Alhama, which tells how King Boabdil received the news of the fall of his city of Alhama. He feels that this loss means the end of his rule. But he will not "let it be true"...."He threw the letters in the fire and killed the messenger"'.[7]

Freud added that 'a further determinant of this behaviour of the king was his need to combat a feeling of powerlessness. By burning the letters and having the messenger killed he was still trying to show his absolute power'.[8]

Current application

A modern version of attacking the messenger can be seen when persons blame the media for presenting bad news about a favored cause, person, organization, etc. The fact remains that 'shooting the messenger may be a time-honored emotional response to unwelcome news, but it is not a very effective method of remaining well-informed'.[9]

Getting rid of the messenger may also be a tactical move; but the danger is that an ethos of non-disclosure may follow any hostile response to negative feedback. 'People learn very quickly where this is the case, and will studiously avoid giving any negative feedback; thus the "Emperor" continues with the self-delusion....obviously this is not a recipe for success'.[10] Barbara Ehrenreich in Bright-sided/Smile or Die argued that a culture of "thinking positive" so as to 'purge "negative people" from the ranks...[fed into] the bubble-itis '[11] of the late Noughties.

Reaction to whistleblowing organization WikiLeaks led to calls not to shoot the messenger.[12]

Similar phrases

A syntactically similar expression is "Don't shoot the piano player; he's doing the best he can". It originated around 1860 in the Wild West of the United States. During his 1883 tour of the United States, Oscar Wilde saw this saying on a notice in a Leadville, Colorado, saloon. This phrase (like many witty sayings of that era) is sometimes attributed to Mark Twain, but neither Wilde nor Twain ever claimed authorship.

"Litvish", the homo coming out of the closet on Failed Messiah has posted more about his hero Rabbi Dov Lesser. He writes a weird sounding bio and says Lesser was son of Dr. Lesser, a modern orthodox cardiologist who was President of the Young Israel of Dorchester, Mass.. Lesser wanted to be be more yeshivish but his mother forced him to drop out of Lakewood to get a secular degree. After he graduated Harvard, he went back to Lakewood. He told "Litvish" the descendants of Rav Aron Kotler are the "Taliban" after they marginalized him and pushed him out of the yeshiva for being a Liberal.

If even part of "Litvish" says is true, I agree with pushing Lesser out of the yeshiva and can see why his kids are so screwed up. Bully was always a shmuck who lived up to his name. He stole from all kinds of people starting at a young age and deserves to be in jail.

He ends off by saying Lesser was cut out of the family will by his own mother after the father died and he developed fatal heart disease from the agmus nefesh.

To whom it may concern:

This is to certify that to the best of my knowledge Valerie Carlton is a Baalas Teshuva who has valiantly tried to maintain her adherence to Torah and Mitzvos under very difficult circumstances. She was subjected to very cruel and
unusual incarceration in Harford County Maryland where she was kept in solitary confinement for thirteen months. She was abused and physically tortured until the charges against her were dismissed and she was released.

She moved to the Monsey area. She was now arrested by Federal Marshalls on a misdemeanor assault charge generated in Harford County. I understand that there is a video that shows she was beaten by the officer who she is accused of
beating. Should she be returned to Harford County her life is clearly in danger.

Anyone who can participate in the demonstration on her behalf at the
upcoming extradition hearing may be helpful in saving the life of a Bas Yisroel who is being falsely accused and will suffer serious life threatening consequences should she be returned to Harford County.

In 2010, I wrote a number of posts regarding the false charges against Valerie Carlton in Harford County, Maryland, home of the infamous prosecutor Joseph Casilly, who once tried to have a man put into prison for 15 years because he had the audacity to film a cop sticking a gun in his face.

When faced with the reality that Carlton was not guilty of child molestation, Casilly suddenly dropped the charges (after holding Carlton in jail for 13 months), but kept a misdemeanor charge against her for "assaulting a prison guard." Unfortunately, she recently was arrested in New York, which is trying to extradite her to Maryland to stand trial for this misdemeanor.

The video of the alleged assault is shown in this link, but although the images that I saw were not very clear, it is clear that if anyone is being assaulted in this video, it is Carlton, not the guard. (I must admit that I was brought up in an era that men who physically attacked women -- and especially women smaller than them -- were considered to be utter scum. Today, police beat up women all the time and are called "heroes.")

This is a very, very disturbing case on many levels. First, Casilly piled up 28 felony charges against Carlton, having her held on $10 million bond, and then he suddenly dropped all of them, which tells me that he had no evidence at the beginning and simply lied to a judge and grand jury. Second, while she was in jail, Casilly made sure her child was taken away from her and put into foster care. The child then died while in foster care, and this account explains how Casilly made sure that the officials at the Harford County Detention Center furthered the psychological torture of this woman:
Valerie was informed of her baby's death while she was in jail, but the prosecutor arranged that the Chaplain was not permitted to perform this duty; instead it was done by an employee of the Sheriff's office who brutally announced that the baby was dead, and then had Valerie strapped into a medieval torture de!=vice, called a "restraint chair," so that she choked on her own mucus as she wept and tried to pray for her dead baby. The Sheriff's department claimed, in writing, that Valerie was "talking in tongues" because she was praying in Hebrew. An employee of the Sheriff's Department apparently told this nonsense to the ex-husband's family, who spread the rumor that Valerie was insane because of the way she responded to the death of her baby.
So, as you can see, this case is far from over. Once again, we see a prosecutor who knows he will face no sanctions in Maryland for his misconduct. We also see the system turned in its full fury against someone who is not a criminal.

Like it or not, this is the country in which we live, and from what I can see, Americans are quite happy to accept what is happening -- as long as it happens to someone else and not themselves.

Buffett blunders by buying of IBM stock is bad sign says pundit said...

Investor Place.com:

"Why Buffett’s IBM Buy Is a Sell Signal for Tech Stocks

If the legendary value investor is changing his stripes, it's trouble

Nov 28, 2011, 7:00 am EST | By Jamie Dlugosch, InvestorPlace Writer

Does Warren Buffett’s IBM (NYSE:IBM) buy — his first real foray into tech stocks — portend the wizard’s purchases of other big tech stocks like Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) or Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ)?

If so, here’s a contrarian suggestion: Perhaps investors should be selling these names and other tech stocks.

When Buffett announced that his Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) holding company would buy its own shares, I wrote about the buyback being an example of his Golden Rule of investing. Specifically, Berkshire will buy shares as long as the price doesn’t exceed 110% of book value.

Buffett’s IBM purchase, however, blows this fundamental approach to buying stocks out of the water. Forget for a moment that IBM is trading near its all-time high. This stock is no value play. IBM now trades for almost 10 times book value. That’s far from the Golden Rule of buying a stock trading for just over book value or less.

You can view Buffett’s buying of IBM two ways. On one hand he’s to be commended for dipping into a sector he has long ignored, yet has generated significant returns for investors. In IBM he made a solid choice. Big Blue is a winner. It has consistently increased earnings over the years and shows no signs of slowing.

But things can change quickly in technology. One could argue that the time to buy IBM was a year or two ago. And many critics indeed suggest that the old man has lost his way. They’re right to question Buffett’s obvious change in strategy, even if this deal is the exception rather than some new way of managing Berkshire’s money.

I’m a contrarian at heart, and I’m in the critics’ camp. It really looks like Buffett’s late to the game and diving into a stock at the wrong time. IBM shares are expensive, and one could argue that with a recession likely, they’re a money-losing proposition.

I’d even go as far as saying Buffett’s departure is a signal to sell technology stocks. Here are two big names I would dump:

One reason to be skeptical of Buffett’s IBM buy is the outlook for technology stocks in 2012.
Shares of Hewlett-Packard fell after the tech giant offered a lackluster forecast for the coming calendar year. HP’s troubles go far beyond next year’s forecast. HP has made several missteps that cloud the future.

Earnings aren’t so bad: For the quarter ending Oct. 31 HP made an adjusted profit of $1.17 per share, versus analysts’ forecast of $1.13. The trouble is the future.

For the next quarter ending Jan. 31, new CEO Meg Whitman is setting the bar low, with a estimated profit of 83 cents to 86 cents per share, versus the average analyst estimate of $1.11.

HP is clearly being cautious. Investors should be cautious, too.

I wouldn’t buy Apple at $400 per share. Having bought IBM, Buffett most certainly would consider a purchase of Apple. In fact one could argue that Apple is a better value than IBM, but clearly we aren’t talking about value here.

Instead, we’re judging a possible paradigm shift by of one of the most successful investors ever. On those grounds, I would be a seller of Apple if Buffett is a buyer.

Even with Apple trading at $368 as of Wednesday, the stock still might be too pricey. In the last quarter ending Sept. 30, the company missed earnings estimates for the first time. It’s just one miss, but what if it becomes a trend? Add in the death of Steve Jobs, and you have plenty to worry about.

The competition is gunning for Apple this holiday season with similar products and lower prices. Apple will fight back for sure, and its brand equity gives it a huge advantage. But it’s no given that Apple can sustain its dominant leadership forever."

IBM bought into Nazis that Buffett conveniently forgot said...

"IBM business relations with the Nazi regime

The bulk of Black's book details the ongoing business relationship between Watson's IBM and the emerging German regime headed by Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP). Hitler came to power in January 1933; on March 20 of that same year he established a concentration camp for political prisoners in the Bavarian town of Dachau, just outside the city of Munich. Repression against political opponents and the country's substantial ethnic Jewish population began at once. By April 1933, some 60,000 had been imprisoned.[12]

Despite the violent and repressive climate emerging in the new ultra-nationalist Germany, business relations between IBM and the Hitler regime continued uninterrupted in the face of broad international calls for an economic boycott.[13] Indeed, Willy Heidinger, who remained in control of Dehomag, the 90%-owned German subsidiary of IBM, was an enthusiastic supporter of the Hitler regime.[14]

On April 12, 1933, the German government announced the plans to immediately conduct a long-delayed national census.[15] The project was particularly important to the Nazis as a mechanism for the identification of Jews, Gypsies, and other ethnic groups deemed undesirable by the regime. Dehomag offered to actively assist the German government in its task of ethnic identification, concentrating first upon the 41 million residents of Prussia.[16]

This activity was not only countenanced by Thomas Watson and IBM in America, Black argues, but was actively encouraged and financially supported, with Watson himself traveling to Germany in October 1933 and the company ramping up its investment in its German subsidiary from 400,000 to 7,000,000 reichsmarks — about $1 million.[17] This injection of American capital allowed Dehomag to purchase land in Berlin and to construct IBM's first factory in Germany, Black charges, thereby "tooling up for what it correctly saw as a massive financial relationship with the Hitler regime."[17]

Black also asserts that a "secret deal" was made between Heidinger and Watson during the latter's visit to Germany which allowed Dehomag commercial powers outside of Germany, enabling the "now Nazified" company to "circumvent and supplant" various national subsidiaries and licensees by "soliciting and delivering punch card solution technology directly to IBM customers in those territories."[18] As a result, Nazi Germany soon became the second most important customer of IBM after the lucrative US market, Black notes.[19]

Buffett IBM and Fannie Mae merge but they will NOT emerge from this mortgage quagmire said...

"In October, 2007, IBM quietly launched its entry into the newly melting US mortgage industry, see: “Press room Press releases: IBM Delivers New Offerings to Transform Lending Capabilities for the Mortgage Industry: New Point-of-Sale (POS) Capabilities and Loan Origination System (LOS) Enhancements Deliver on IBM's Vision for Next Generation of Loan Fulfillment. ARMONK, NY - 15 Oct 2007: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it will launch a new set of hosted multi-channel Point of Sale (POS) offerings that will enable lenders to better manage their interactions with mortgage brokers and consumers…”

By March 2011, the relationship between IBM and Fannie Mae becomes a topic of public discussion, see: National Mortgage News: “March 25, 2011 By Paul Muolo [Author of ‘Chain of Blame: How Wall Street Caused the Mortgage and Credit Crisis’ John Wiley & Sons, 2008] “Fannie, IBM, and Outsourcing, An Update”

Fannie Mae was kind enough to give National Mortgage News some guidance on what's going on regarding all those rumors we've been hearing about the GSE outsourcing some of its technology chores supposedly to IBM. A spokeswoman for Fannie confirmed that there is a 'request for proposal' out regarding the matter, but said that IBM is not the "leading bidder" on the contract. She would not name the other bidders, and would not even confirm that IBM is still in the running. As for what exactly Fannie plans to outsource in the technology space, she would offer no guidance there either. At this point we know that IBM's servicing division is one of at least five subservicers handling 'high touch' product for the GSE -- a lot of it. How much is IBM's servicing unit processing for Fannie? The spokeswoman would not say. You might think IBM would want to clarify the matter but Big Blue ain't talking either. Both firms are publicly traded, but Uncle Sam owns most of Fannie…”

By September 2011, now renamed “Seterus, Inc” its terrible record with the US public it’s supposed to serve, makes its mark, see:

Origination News “The Big Silence at Big Blue's Servicing Unit" (September 16, 2011). By Paul Muolo [Author of ‘Chain of Blame: How Wall Street Caused the Mortgage and Credit Crisis’ John Wiley & Sons, 2008] I often wonder if the Treasury Department—which owns Fannie Mae—has actually tried to call (on the telephone) Seterus, the servicing division of IBM that the GSE is apparently using to handle its lousy loans. As reported by the National Mortgage News website on Friday, it appears that Seterus was awarded a chunk of the $73 billion MSR package that Fannie bought from B of A...” and at “More Complaints for IBM's Servicing Unit (September 19, 2011) By Paul Muolo This past weekend we published a blog about how hard it was for customers and members of the media to contact Seterus, the residential servicing division of IBM. Over the weekend, one veteran mortgage banking executive who we've known for years weighed in on the matter. He did not want to be identified by name, but said that Seterus was recently given his loan to service. This is what he had to say: “My loan was sold to them and we didn't receive any notice from the old lender. I tried to reach them and forget it!” A few months back, a family member of mine, who had a loan with Chase, suddenly found Seterus as his servicer. The first thing Seterus did was to hike his escrows…”

If a spate of recent allegations proves true, Hollywood may have a hideous epidemic on its hands. The past two weeks have brought three separate reports of alleged child sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.

Martin Weiss, a 47-year-old Hollywood manager who represented child actors, was charged in Los Angeles on Dec. 1 with sexually abusing a former client. His accuser, who was under 12 years old during the time of the alleged abuse, reported to authorities that Weiss told him "what they were doing was common practice in the entertainment industry." Weiss has pleaded not guilty.

Revelations of this sort come as no surprise to former child star Corey Feldman.

Feldman, 40, himself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, unflinchingly warned of the world of pedophiles who are drawn to the entertainment industry last August. "I can tell you that the No. 1 problem in Hollywood was and is and always will be pedophilia,” Feldman told ABC’s Nightline. “That's the biggest problem for children in this industry... It's the big secret.”

Federal Aviation Administration chief Randy Babbitt resigned Tuesday, three days after a drunk-driving arrest, saying he was leaving with a "heavy heart".

A few hours earlier, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood appeared to set the stage for the departure by publicly rebuking Mr. Babbitt, telling reporters he "was very disappointed" the FAA chief hadn't promptly informed him about Saturday's incident.

The arrest became public after the Fairfax, Va., city police issued a statement Monday disclosing Mr. Babbitt was arrested

Police say more possible victims are coming forward in the case of a transgender person in South Florida who was arrested Friday after allegedly injecting an unwitting patient’s buttocks with unsafe substances, including cement and the tire mender "Fix-A-Flat", NBC reported.

Oneal Ron Morris, 30, was busted after a botched butt implant sent the unidentified woman to the hospital.

Miami Gardens Police arrested Morris, 30, on Friday, following an investigation by the Florida Department of Health.

The injection took place in a residential setting, where Morris shot a mix of cement, glue, mineral oil and tire sealant into the woman’s buttocks, ABC reported.

“[A] short time later, she develops very serious pains [in her] abdomen, [and] throughout her body,” Bamford told the network affiliate. “She knows something’s wrong.”

The woman rushed to Tampa General Hospital, where she was treated for infection and pneumonia, but would not divulge Morris’ name, according to the report.

Hospital officials contacted the Dept. of Health, but it took investigators months to track down Morris.
