It’s to the existence of Israel itself. Sympathize with him all you like, but at least notice that his politics demand the elimination of the Jewish state...Paul Mendlowitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05887774341136059873noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21519732.post-79878862632332047492018-05-17T01:09:58.883-04:002018-05-17T01:09:58.883-04:00I remember studying veterinary medicine and workin...I remember studying veterinary medicine and working in Israel during the early 1980's. We used to go from our Rehovot location to Gaza for dinner at one of the Strip's wonderful Gas Station/Arabic restaurants at least twice a week. Everyone was friendly and there were no fences or border checks etc. Workers from Gaza used to come into Israel proper freely and go home at night with no border checks or other hassles. Not only blue collar construction workers came back and forth from Gaza, but students and educated professionals used to commute over every day. One of my professors at veterinary college was a Gazan Arab.

Gaza Arabs went overseas for education and also were welcomed at Israeli institutions of higher learning such as Weizmann Institute, the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, Technion and Hebrew University.

Why would the Palestinians want to mess up this prosperous and peaceful "open border" relationship, even with their enemies? True, Gaza was occupied, but the Gaza Arabs lived prosperously and peacefully under these Begin-era rules for the occupied territories.

If I were a Gazan Arab, I'd demand a return to the fairly easy relationship that existed in the 1980's and quit with the poinless and self-damaging terrorism.Fred E.https://www.blogger.com/profile/05994951860009146436noreply@blogger.com
