Yudi Kolko's nephew from Lakewood, Yossi Kolko, a thirty three year old single man, that taught in a yeshiva and was a counselor in an Orthodox Jewish summer camp, was arrested last week for child sex-abuse. The difference this time, is that allegedly, one of his many victims, is a very close blood relative of a faculty member of the Lakewood Yeshiva, Beth Medrash Govoha, and they went to the police.
It was bound to become public knowledge, not that this is the first time a staff member of a yeshiva's family were victims of child sex-abuse by a rebbe or another adult member of the Jewish community. But...now it's slamming the door in Matisyahu Salomon's lying face for being the pompous putz that he is for claiming to be handling all these allegations (that don't exist) in a "dignified" manner for all involved. When push came to shove, and it was an "aigener kint", Rabbi so and so from the Lakewood Yeshiva told Salomon to let the door hit him in the tuchis, he'll take action that should be taken by every parent, going to the police.
And the attitude that is still prevalent today in these idiot circles of rabbis, is that they're immune from these horrific tragedies. Why do they believe that? Because somehow these hallucinating psychos, are so pathetic that they actually believe their own lies.
I want to be clear, any child that is victimized hurts my heart. But these insane parents who refuse to immunize their own children by having a "Faith Healer" tend to their children's urgent mental medical needs, will just have to learn the hard way.
When is enough, enough? When do you realize that if YOU don't do something about this pandemic of child sex-abuse, your own loved ones will suffer, that it's just a matter of time?
And to all the Matisyahu Salomons I say -- the damage you caused to innocent children and their families is unforgivable!
YUDI KOLKO ALERT!!!!!
A friend of UOJ writes..
Yudi Kolko has taken up residence -- "for the rest of the summer", according to his wife -- at 162 Laurel Park Road, Fallsburg, NY, which is within the PINES ESTATES complex. His presence there has caused a bit of a stir....there are at least one hundred children there, and a number of parents -- are understandably concerned. Unfortunately, there is ample evidence to believe that the roshei yeshiva at the Yeshiva of South Fallsburg initially told their minions that Kolko is Kosher V'Yashar. While they have quietly moved off that position, it seems that he's unwilling to undo the damage the yeshiva did, by now rightly declaring him a menace to children.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think a warning should be posted to anyone with children that's even contemplating renting a place in the PINES ESTATES, advising them to go elsewhere......Maybe, if the kool aid drinking yeshivaleit are effected where it really hurts -- in their pockets -- they might actually rise up against this cancer and throw him out too. I understand he initially rented a place in a Chassidishe colony in Woodburne, but when they got wind of him, they packed his bags for him and threw him out.

In promoting his health-care agenda, President Obama has repeatedly reassured Americans that they can keep their existing health plans -- and that the benefits and access they prize will be enhanced through reform.
A close reading of the two main bills, one backed by Democrats in the House and the other issued by Sen. Edward Kennedy's Health committee, contradict the President's assurances. To be sure, it isn't easy to comb through their 2,000 pages of tortured legal language. But page by page, the bills reveal a web of restrictions, fines, and mandates that would radically change your health-care coverage.
Police have arrested a 23-year-old New Jersey man in connection with Saturday morning's hit-and-run death of two-time "American Idol" contestant Alexis Cohen. The Asbury Park Journal reports that Daniel Bark was arrested at 6 p.m. on Sunday and charged with causing Cohen's death by reckless driving and then leaving the scene of a collision
ReplyDeleteBark could serve 10 to 15 years in jail. He is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $35,000 bail.
(IsraelNN.com) Rabbi David Yosef, the son of Shas spiritual leader and former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, resisted an attempt by an American businessman to suck him into a money laundering operation that eventually led to the arrest of dozens of people in New York and New Jersey.
ReplyDeleteThe businessman, Solomon Dwek, was himself arrested in 2006, in connection with a scheme to bilk $25 million out of the PNC bank, which has branches in New York and New Jersey. Dwek was a real estate developer, religious school principal and philanthropist from Ocean Township, New Jersey.
As part of a plea bargain arrangement with federal prosecutors, he turned state’s witness and wore a “wire” while attempting to snare others in the web of intrigue. According to a report on Sunday by News One, Dwek came to the younger Rabbi Yosef, claiming that he did not even have enough money to buy food and that the rabbi was obligated to save him by doing business with him. The transaction involved a $25,000 check, which Dwek offered to cash in exchange for a percentage as a fee.
The rabbi was careful enough to refuse and said he did not deal in such matters. Both Rabbi Ovadia Yosef and his son, Rabbi David Yosef, are deeply respected in the Sephardic Jewish communities abroad, as well as in Israel.

City-run hospitals faked records and covered up dozens of botched operations, deadly accidents, malpractice and other medical screwups, a Daily News investigation has found.
The coverups hid a trail of human suffering among patients who were maimed and relatives who were never told the truth about how their loved ones died or were injured unnecessarily.
A months-long probe found coverups at all 11 Health & Hospitals Corp. hospitals — the only option for millions of New Yorkers who cannot afford private medical centers.
From 2004 through September 2008, the state cited city hospitals 68 times for violating laws that require immediate reporting of "adverse events," records show.
Each hospital — Bellevue, Coney Island, Elmhurst, Harlem, Jacobi, Kings County, Lincoln, Metropolitan, North Central Bronx, Queens and Woodhull — had at least one citation.
The law requires all New York hospitals to quickly report all serious medical mishaps to the state.
"There's a tremendous lack of confidence in the reporting," said Arthur Levin, director of the Center for Medical Consumers. "It matters because it is a way to understand where the safety problems are. . . . This identifies what goes wrong and where."
Hidden incidents uncovered by The News — corroborated by dozens of interviews with doctors, patients, lawyers and families of victims — bordered on the Medieval.
Some incidents were simply not reported, while others were reported long after the fact, making investigation impossible. Some records were incomplete or even fictional.
A stroke victim's leg had to be amputated after gangrene was left untreated. No report.
An ill infant died after sitting, unexamined by a doctor in an ER for 24 hours. Confronted for not having enough doctors on duty, they produce a "corrected" report saying there was – a month after the fact.
A mental patient hanged himself and, after several days, died. Though hospitals must report suicides, they report this one as an "unexpected death."
Records were altered after medical students made mistakes and an infant died.
Logs for a respirator were changed after staff failed to notice it wasn't turned on. The patient died.
The findings come a year after employees of Kings County Hospital tried to hide the death of 49-year-old Esmin Green. Hospital staff wrote in records that she was fine; a shocking video showed Green dead on the floor.
The Green coverup, The News found, was part of a larger pattern found in thousands of pages of internal hospital records obtained under the Freedom of Information law and documents found in dusty court files.

ReplyDeleteAnna Kassin, the 62-year-old daughter of Rabbi Kassin, was banished by her father almost 40 years ago when she married a non-Jew, and now teaches in a religious school and tutors children preparing for their bar and bat mitzvahs. In a brief telephone interview from her California home, she said she was “distraught” by news of the arrests.
Though she has not seen him in many years, she said her father was a good man.
Assuming the media paint the Chareidim with a broader brush than they do other distinctive groups, do not the Chareidim do the same? According to Pinchus Lipschutz et cie, all Israeli police engage in brutality, all prison guards were cruel to the “Munchausen mother,” all government social workers lied in wait to ambush her, the entirety of Hadassah Ein Kerem participated in a cabal to destroy this woman and harm Chareidiut. Not only that, but the CW in chareidi circles is that all secular Israelis have a pathological hatred for chareidim. Has the Chareidi press ever once showcased a prominent secular Jew and expressed pride in his accomplishments? Would Chareidim ever acknolwedge people like Jonas Salk, Albert Einstein, Leonard Bernstein, Marc Chagall, Franz Rosenzweig, David Sarnoff (notice I’m not including religious or political leaders in this list) etc. as honored members of the Jewish people? Has the Chareidi press ever presented non-chareidiut in nuanced way at all? I’ve never seen it. Yet Chareidim demand precisely the acknoledgment and respect from non-Chareidim that they are unpreprepared/unwilling/hostile to giving in return.

ReplyDeleteI must say that the person in question would most likely disappear over night and never to be heard or seen again (not out of his own will that is!).

Here is a quick review of the laws of Mesirah:
ReplyDeleteTo report a personal crime, or criminal intent to the police is called putting a Rodef (A person who intends to inflict injury)out of business. One need not wait for the person to cause injury, intent is enough of a cause to report. It is NOT called Mesirah. It carries the Issur of Lo Sa'amod Al Dam Reiecha, to do nothing.
To do investigative work, wherein ther is a possibility of catching that a Jew commited a crime, there is no issue of mesirah. This is because when the person commited the crime he knew that he is taking the risk of being caught once the authorities were alerted.
However, to act as an agent of the police to incriminate others is called Mesirah.
Beats me how UOJ could sit with Gorelik, hear Gorelik say he's going to do nothing, and not puke.

ReplyDeleteDear Readers,
I am writing to friends and supporters of Agudath Israel to call your attention to an important gathering for the men of our community tomorrow night, Tuesday, 7 Menachem Av/July 28, in the Ohr Hachayim Viznitz Hall, 1824 53rd Street, in Brooklyn.
The asifa, which is being sponsored by community askonim, will be focusing on the timeless (but also all too timely) theme of “Vi’asisa hayashar vi’hatov.” It will feature two distinguished rabbonim - Harav Avrohom Schorr, shlita, and Harav Dovid Ozieri, shlita; as well as two respected legal experts - Benjamin Brafman, Esq. and Jacob Laufer, Esq. I will be serving as the evening’s chairman. We will start with Mincha at 7:15 and then proceed with the program.
Introspection about how to better live our lives in consonance with Torah ideals is always timely. It is particularly timely during the days leading up to Tisha B’Av, when we mourn the fact that we remain in Golus, and the reasons why.
And in the wake of recent headlines and front-page photographs that made every feeling Jewish heart ache, it is even more timely for us to take a good, hard look at our obligations to our fellows, to our society, to our government.
I don’t think I can adequately convey how compelling this gathering should be to us all. But I am confident that you realize how vital it is that we hear words of mussar and chizuk, and that we learn to distinguish between conduct that conforms with dina d’malchusa and conduct that does not. I am also confident that you understand how important it is to demonstrate to the wider world how heartfelt and determined Jews respond to news like the tragic tidings of recent days. Tomorrow night’s symposium and our attendance are an important part of that response.

ReplyDeleteRebbe Nachman of Breslav in Likutai Maran, 2:8 writes that; when leaders arise and give unfitting rebuke to the people, they weaken their spiritual neshamas. Consequently, this causes an achzarius (barbarism) to enter into individuals in klal yisroel, and it also breaks down the boundaries of the mind which holds a person back from acts of znus.
ReplyDeleteRebbe Nachman continues; "one must must work very hard and pray to hashem to help him find true leaders etc... because when one is drawn to a false leader, he will be left with distorted beliefs in hashem, for a false leader has the same spirit as a false prophet".

ReplyDeleteBESIGHEIM, Germany (AP) — Barack Obama in traditional German lederhosen? It may be hard to imagine, but researchers in the U.S. say they have located documents that prove the president has German roots dating to the 1700s.
ReplyDeleteAccording to parish records uncovered by experts at the genealogy website Ancestry.com, Obama's 6th great-grandfather Johann Conrad Woelflin was born Jan. 29, 1729, in Besigheim, a small town north of Stuttgart on the Enz river where it feeds into the Neckar.
He sailed aboard a ship called "Patience" in 1750 to America, changing his last name to "Wolfley" upon arrival and eventually settling in Middletown, Pennsylvania, according to head genealogist Anastasia Tyler, who oversaw the research.

ReplyDeleteWhen the self-described “pro-Israel, pro-peace” group J Street was founded over a year ago, many in the Jewish community predicted that it would have little to no influence in the shaping of American foreign policy. While American Jews are indeed overwhelmingly left-of-center in their political orientation, they also happen to hold rather hawkish views on Israel. A 2007 American Jewish Committee survey found that the overwhelming majority of American Jews believes that Israel “cannot achieve peace with a Hamas-led, Palestinian government” and that “the goal of the Arabs is not the return of occupied territories but rather the destruction of Israel” — views sharply at odds with J Street’s support for engagement with Hamas and its tendency to accuse Israel of hindering the peace process.
At the same time, the organization goes out of its way to defend those whose support for the Jewish state is dubious at best. In recent months, J Street has adopted an obscure freshman congresswoman from Maryland, Donna Edwards, as a cause célèbre. In January, after the conclusion of Cast Lead, Edwards was one of a handful of representatives to vote “present” on a resolution expressing support for Israel’s right to defend itself. When local Jewish leaders rightly criticized her, J Street raised $15,000 for Edwards in a matter of hours. Ben-Ami issued a defiant statement declaring, “This is exactly how — for decades — established pro-Israel groups have enforced right-wing message discipline on Israel in Congress.” (Notice the labeling of a resolution introduced by Nancy Pelosi and supported by 390 members of Congress as “right-wing.”) The effect of J Street’s backing of figures like Edwards will be the emboldening of Israel’s critics (who, like the Obama administration, will always be able to point to J Street to validate their “pro-Israel” bona fides) and the weakening of the strong, bipartisan support that the Jewish state has always enjoyed in Congress.
A Greenberg Quinlan Rosner poll released last month found that only 46% of registered voters believe that Israel is committed to peace, down from 66% right before Obama took office. Furthermore, only 44% believe America should support Israel, down from 71% a year before. It’s impossible to isolate a single cause for this decline in sympathy for Israel, but surely the change in tone from the White House has played a substantial role. Even more distressing is that ostensibly “pro-Israel” activists are aiding and abetting this dark transformation in public attitudes.

"According to sources closely involved in the recent scandal in Lakewood, where a member of the community went to the police with an allegation of molestation, the allegations are completely false and totally fabricated. Rabbonim including Horav Yisrael Belsky Rosh Yeshiva Torah Vodath stated unequivocally that "it is clear to us after extensive research that not only are the allegations false and unfounded, on the contrary, the accusers are just covering up their own inadequacies and trying to shift the blame for their own personal issues onto others"! ReplyDeleteKosher Valley poultry? is it for you?
There a relativley new line of poultry called Kosher Valley, located in Plainville, NY. We have visited most of the kosher poultry plants in tri-State area, including Kiryas Joel in Monroe, G&G Mehadrin in Pensylvania, Vineland poultry, Skver poultry, Pella poultry, etc.
Inspection of a shechita plant is best left to the מומחים. Through the eyes of a מומחה, observations take a completely different outcome. We tried to ascertain what this new Kosher Valley plant & process is all about. The plant is a long drive, some 5 hours from Lakewood, NJ. They are having a somewjat hard time to find a full time רב and a בודק סכינים for the plant. So some days every week the Rav Hamachshir must act as the Ruv & Bodek Sakinim, other days a שוחט fills that position.
We don't know how they deal with injections, hormones, anti-biotic, etc. We did call the Rav Hamachshir a few times in order to be able to visit & inspect the plant. We were finally told today that "I can't visit the plant". They claimed an "open door policy", til an expert asks to visit then it's a closed door policy.
We don't know what they want to hide. but they most probably do know. Each one must decide if this meets their criterea.
We could recommend at this time only the Kiryas Joel, G&G Mehadrin, Vineland, Pella, Skver.

ReplyDeleteOver the last few weeks, there have been too many very unfortunate episodes of violence taking place in Yerushalayim, Ramat Bet Shemesh and other cities in our holy land. This follows the pattern of such outbursts in previous years and even decades.
These riots have cast a dark shadow on the entire orthodox community the world over. The people organizing these riots lurk in the darkness of places like Ramat Bet Shemesh and Mea Shearim and use fear tactics to drum up support for and organize these riots which have brought such shame to our people. They also use overt and covert threats to intimidate those who oppose them – very effectively, we might add. They have even intimidated some Rabbinic Sages by throwing fruit at Rav Elyashiv s’hlita a few years ago for having the temerity to oppose them and picketed Rav Shteinman s’hlita for supporting sending SOME boys to the Nachal Charedi division of the Israeli Army; it should be pointed out that it was a limited number who were in the streets and not attending any yeshiva.
There is a network of people around the world who are responsible for aiding, assisting and supporting these self proclaimed kanoim and this blog is here to tell you that the game is up.
This website represents a grass root effort of concerned individuals from around the world who are dedicated to shutting the violence and protests down, and we will use this blog and the power of the internet to peacefully yet forcefully expose those kanoim responsible for bringing shame onto our people and violence into our streets.
These extremists operate in fear and darkness. Now, we will use the brightness of day to expose their identities and those of their donors, supporters and enablers and we will exert tremendous pressure through the Internet and various media in addition to law enforcement officials (it is our understanding that funding these acts of terror is illegal and we will vigorously explore the possibility of working with law enforcement to follow the money trail that fund these activities and prosecute the donors. We will also work to get the Neturei Karta and perhaps other organizations classified as terror groups to shut down their network.
We wish to serve notice that whether you are the ones organizing these violent protests, participating in them, raising money for them, or housing their leaders for parlor meetings in your homes, your names and pictures will be identified here and will be sent to various press outlets to pressure you to stop these acts from taking place.
We feel that we are left with no choice at this point other than to, peacefully, expose you and shut you down. The shame and damage you have done to your people over the last few weeks and years is irreparable and we are here to tell you that it stops today. Whether you live in Ramat Bet Shemesh, Mea Shearim, Antwerp, Vienna, London, Monroe, Williamsburg, Lawrence, LA or wherever you may be, we are going to find you and you will be exposed for supporting and instigating these riots.
We ask all decent Jews worldwide who have any information on these people to come forward and e-mail pictures addresses and any other information that you might have to: peaceinourholyland@gmail.com . All information and contacts will be kept confidential.
We wish we had the ability to post our names. However, due to the fact that these extremists have proven to be capable of violence that stops just short of murder, we have no choice but to remain anonymous. We look forward to the day when decent people like us will not need to hide, but instead, extremists and their families will cower in fear for the backlash that will follow when they harm others.
We hope that our efforts will be short and that we will be able to return peace to our holy city in the very near future, but we are determined to do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A vocal group of conspiracy theorists known as "birthers" are riling the White House with their persistent claim that Barack Obama is not an American citizen and therefore ineligible to be president.
ReplyDeleteThe claim that the United States' first African-American president was born in Kenya, not Hawaii, first emerged during his presidential campaign, but it has garnered more media attention in the summer "silly season," a traditionally slow news period when many Americans are on vacation.

Enraged at being two-timed, a Queens woman poured boiling water on her unfaithful husband's groin as he slept Monday, police said.
In a twisted act of revenge, Oyinda Ojofeitimi, 67, a registered nurse, carried out the crotch-scalding attack to ensure her spouse stopped cheating, cops said.
"She was hurt and angry that after all this time married, he was stepping out on her," a police source said. "She wanted to shut down that possibility forever because he had treated her with such contempt."
The painful wakeup call left Emmanuel Ojofeitimi, also a nurse, screaming in the bedroom of the couple's home on Milburn St. in Springfield Gardens.
"I could hear it through the ceiling," said a mother of two, who rents an upstairs apartment in the feuding couple's house. "It was a physical altercation. It was the woman screaming and him in the background."
"They took him out on a stretcher," said another neighbor, Felix Smith.
The woman immediately regretted the assault and called 911, cops said. She was treating him with cold compresses when paramedics arrived. Her husband, 67, suffered second- and third-degree burns from his knees to his abdomen, police said. He was being treated at the burn unit at Nassau University Medical Center.
Oyinda Ojofeitimi told cops she recently had learned her husband of 20 years had been unfaithful.
Fed up and furious, she awoke at 6 a.m. and boiled a pot of water on her stove, cops said. As her husband slept, she poured the pot on his privates, cops said.

Why Won’t Obama Talk to Israel?
By ALUF BENN
TEL AVIV
IN his global tours and TV appearances, President Obama has spoken to Arabs, Muslims, Iranians, Western Europeans, Eastern Europeans, Russians and Africans. His words have stirred emotions and been well received everywhere.
But he hasn’t bothered to speak directly to Israelis.
And the effect? Six months into his presidency, Israelis find themselves increasingly suspicious of Mr. Obama. All they see is American pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to freeze settlements, a request that’s been interpreted here as political arm-twisting meant to please the Arab street at Israel’s expense — or simply to express the president’s dislike for Mr. Netanyahu.
This would seem counterproductive, given the importance the president has placed on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. If Israel is part of the problem, it’s also part of the solution. Yet so far, neither the president nor any senior administration official has given a speech or an interview aimed at an Israeli audience, beyond brief statements made at diplomatic photo ops.
The Arabs got the Cairo speech; we got silence.
This policy of ignoring Israel carries a price. Though Mr. Obama has succeeded in prodding Mr. Netanyahu to accept the idea of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, he has failed to induce Israel to impose a freeze on settlements. In fact, he has failed even to stir debate about the merits of one: no Israeli political figure has stood up to Mr. Netanyahu and begged him to support Mr. Obama; not even the Israeli left, desperate for a new agenda, has adopted Mr. Obama as its icon.
As a result, Mr. Netanyahu enjoys a virtual domestic consensus over his rejection of the settlement freeze. Moreover, he has succeeded in portraying Mr. Obama as a shaky ally. In Mr. Netanyahu’s narrative, the president has fallen under the influence of top aides — in this case Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod — whom the prime minister has called “self-hating Jews.” Meanwhile, Mr. Netanyahu is the defender of national glory in face of unfair pressure, someone who sticks to the first commandment of Israeli culture: thou shalt never be the freier (that is, the dupe).
So far, Israelis have embraced Mr. Netanyahu’s message. A Jerusalem Post poll of Israeli Jews last month indicated that only 6 percent of those surveyed considered the Obama administration to be pro-Israel, while 50 percent said that its policies are more pro-Palestinian than pro-Israeli. Less scientifically: Israeli rightists have — in columns, articles and public statements — taken to calling the president by his middle name, Hussein, as proof of his pro-Arab tendencies.
What went wrong? Several explanations come to mind.
First, in the 16 rosy years of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, Israelis became spoiled by unfettered presidential attention. Memories of State Department “Arabists” leading American policy in the Middle East were erased. The White House coordinated its policy with Jerusalem, and stayed out of the way when Israel embarked on controversial military offensives in Lebanon and Gaza. This approach infuriated America’s Arab and European allies, which blamed Washington for one-sidedness — something they were willing to forgive of Bill Clinton but not of George W. Bush.
Mr. Obama came to office determined to repair America’s broken alliances in Europe and the Middle East. One way to do this — to prove that he was the opposite of his predecessor — was to place some distance between Israel and himself.
ReplyDeleteSecond, Mr. Obama’s quest for diplomacy has appeared to Israelis as dangerous American naïveté. The president offered a hand to the Iranians, and got nothing, merely giving them more time to advance their nuclear program. In Israeli eyes, he was humiliated by North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests. And he failed to move Arab governments to take steps to normalize relations with Israel. Conclusion: Mr. Obama is a softie, eager to please his listeners and avoid confrontation with anyone who is not Mr. Netanyahu.
Third, Mr. Obama seems to have confused American Jews with Israelis. We are close emotionally and politically, but we are different. We speak Hebrew and not English, we live in the Middle East and have separate historical narratives. Mr. Obama’s stop at Buchenwald and his strong rejection of Holocaust denial, immediately after his Cairo speech, appealed to American Jews but fell flat in Israel. Here we are taught that Zionist determination and struggle — not guilt over the Holocaust — brought Jews a homeland. Mr. Obama’s speech, which linked Israel’s existence to the Jewish tragedy, infuriated many Israelis who sensed its closeness to the narrative of enemies like Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.
Fourth, as far as most Israelis are concerned, Mr. Obama has made a mistake in focusing on a settlement freeze. For starters, mainstream Israelis rarely have anything to do with the settlements; many have no idea where they are, even when they’re a half-hour’s drive from Tel Aviv.
More important: in the past decade, repeated peace negotiations and diplomatic statements have indicated that larger, closer-to-home settlements (the “settlement blocs”) will remain in Israeli hands under any two-state solution. Why, then, insist on a total freeze everywhere? And why deny with such force — as the administration did — the existence of previous understandings between the United States and Israel over limited settlement construction? There is simply too much evidence proving that such an understanding existed. To Israelis, the claim undermined Mr. Obama’s credibility — and strengthened Mr. Netanyahu’s position.
Perhaps there are good reasons behind Mr. Obama’s Middle East policy. Perhaps the settlement freeze is in Israel’s best interest. Perhaps the president is truly committed to Israel’s long-term security and well-being. Perhaps his popularity in the Arab street is the missing ingredient of peacemaking.
But until the president talks to us, we won’t know. Next time you’re in the neighborhood, Mr. President, speak to us directly. We will surely listen.

ReplyDeleteSettler rally: Obama racist; his regime will fall
1,000 rightists protesting demand to halt settlement construction march towards US Consulate, call for Special Mideast envoy Mitchell to 'go home'; yeshiva head: Era when Jews were banned from living in different places has ended
Efrat Weiss Published: 07.27.09
"(US President Barack) Obama is a racist," said Rabbi Eliezer Waldman, the head of the "Nir" yeshiva in the West Bank town of Kiryat Arba.
Waldman was speaking during a mass rally held Monday evening at Jerusalem's Paris Square in protest of the American demand that Israel halt all construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.
About 1,000 settlers and right-wing activists, including Knesset members Uri Ariel, Michael Ben-Ari (both from the National Union party) and David Rotem (Yisrael Beiteinu), marched towards the US Consulate, carrying torches and calling for US special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell to "go home."
"How dare he (Obama) tell the Jews where they can or can't live? The era when Jews were banned from living in different places has ended," said Rabbi Waldman.
"Obama beware. This insolence will bring about the downfall of the American leadership," he said. "Anyone who dares give an order to prevent Israeli life in Jerusalem or anywhere else in the Land of Israel is destined to fall."
A businessman who last year was talked out of coming clean with the Internal Revenue Service pleaded guilty Tuesday to U.S. tax charges stemming from a wide-ranging investigation into secret accounts at Swiss bank UBS AG.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey P. Chernick of Stanfordville, New York, owner of a company that represents Chinese and Hong Kong toy manufacturers, faces up to three years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. U.S. District Judge James I. Cohn set sentencing for Oct. 30.
Chernick, the third American client of UBS to plead guilty to criminal charges, signed a statement of facts saying he sought in 2008 to reveal his UBS account to the IRS, file amended tax returns and pay back taxes. But Chernick was talked out of it by a lawyer named only as "Swiss Attorney" in the court documents.
This attorney told Chernick that a high-ranking Swiss government official had provided assurances that his name was not scheduled to be turned over to U.S. authorities investigating tax evasion by wealthy American clients. The attorney later told Chernick that this unidentified Swiss official had been paid $45,000 for the information, which Chernick then had withdrawn from his account.
But it was to no avail. Chernick's name was disclosed earlier this year on a list of about 300 UBS clients as part of a deferred prosecution agreement in which the bank also agreed to pay a $780 million penalty.
U.S. taxpayers who have secret offshore accounts face a Sept. 23 deadline to voluntarily come forward to the IRS under an amnesty program that promises reduced penalties, said John DiCicco, acting assistant attorney general for the U.S. Justice Department's tax division.
"Failure to come forward and to disclose offshore assets exposes these Americans to increased penalties and possible criminal prosecution," DiCicco said.
Chernick's plea comes amid intense negotiations between the Justice Department, UBS and the Swiss government over a broad U.S. attempt to force the bank to disclose some 52,000 names of suspected American tax cheats with secret accounts. A hearing is scheduled before a Miami judge Wednesday on the status of a possible settlement.
UBS and the Swiss say Switzerland's long-standing bank secrecy laws would make it a crime to turn over all the names. U.S. prosecutors say that is not the case.
Court documents show that Chernick admitted filing a false 2007 income tax return and had a UBS account in the name of a Hong Kong corporation called Simba International Ltd. In total, Chernick had about $8 million in UBS offshore assets in the name of Simba and other entities, prosecutors said.
Chernick met frequently with UBS advisers and executives, who "would dress as tourists to avoid detection," according to the factual statement. One unnamed UBS executive falsely claimed to customs agents that he was coming to the U.S. to visit his brother, court documents show. UBS officials also physically cut Chernick's name and account number from bank statements so they could not be linked to him.
Chernick used credit cards to access his secret accounts and set up a sham $700,000 loan designed to provide him with money to buy land next to his New York home.

ReplyDeleteThe widow of slain Florida convention organizer Ben Novack Jr. showed "indications of deception" when she took a polygraph the day after finding her husband's body in their room at the Hilton Rye Town, according to a search warrant filed in a Florida court.
The warrant, obtained this morning by The Journal News, also revealed publicly for the first time that Novack's hands, legs and face were bound by duct tape when he was killed July 12.
Narcy Novack submitted to the lie-detector test by an investigator with the New York State Police after hours of questioning in the wake of the killing.
Polygraph results are not admissible in court but are still used as an investigative tool.
Novack, 53, ran Convention Concepts Unlimited and was the son of the founder of the famed Fountainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. He was killed while at the hotel in Rye Brook for a convention of Amway Global, his main client.
According to the search warrant, Narcy Novack told police that her husband had stayed up all night and went to sleep at about 6:30 a.m. He was still sleeping when she went to breakfast at 7 a.m. and she found him tied up and on the floor when she returned about 40 minutes later.
Novack's bloodied body was face down on the floor next to his bed. His hands were bound with gray-silver duct tape behind his back and his legs were taped together just below the knees. There was also tape across his face.
Expensive jewelry, including a Rolex watch, was not taken from the room.
Detectives later determined that no card keys were used to enter the room from the time Narcy left until she returned.
The medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide and police said Novack was bludgeoned to death.
In hours of questioning over the next two days, Narcy Novack told Rye Brook Detective John Arnold that her husband had enemies, had been hanging out and doing business with "weird people" and that he was "a hard person, a strong businessman and has a tendency to make people angry," according to the search warrant.
She said he frequently carries large sums of cash but told detectives she would not know if any had been taken from the hotel until she returned to their home.
Ben Novack had an extensive collection of Batman memorabilia and his wife told detectives that her husband frequented comic-book trade shows and had recently agreed to buy a comic book for $43,000.
Three weeks before the killing, she told detectives, he got into an argument with a collector who showed up at their home and started to negotiate a comic-book deal with her husband. They disagreed over the price before Narcy went to get a bag of cash that her husband then gave to the collector.
Rye Brook police Chief Gregory Austin initially said Narcy Novack was not a suspect. But five days after the killing he indicated that anyone who was at the hotel that morning remained a person of interest.
Ben Novack had filed for divorce in June 2002 after a bizarre incident at his home in which he reported being tied up for more than 24 hours after robbers entered his house. He blamed his wife for setting up the robbery but eventually declined to press charges.
Narcy Novack claimed the break-in was part of an elaborate sex game she played with her husband, and showed police an array of lewd photographs that included her husband's fetish: amputee porn. But she also filed a domestic violence claim against her husband, claiming he had hit her. She claimed he once broke her nose and when he sent her to a plastic surgeon she woke up there with breast implants she had not requested.
No charges were ever filed in the home-invasion.
Ben Novack dropped the divorce plans after Narcy paid him $100,000 of the money that was taken from the house, according to his lawyer at the time, and the couple reconciled. Three months later they took out a new $880,000 joint mortgage on their home.

Ramapo police arrest two men on charges of possessing stolen mail

RAMAPO - Two Brooklyn men from Israel have been charged with stealing mail - including checks and personal letters - from residents of Wesley Hills, Ramapo police said today.
Eliiya Aqva, 26, and Sharon Benshusahan, 32, were accused of driving around the village in a minivan, stealing letters from mailboxes, police said.
Officers found more than 100 pieces of open mail inside their minivan when officers stopped the vehicle on Sunday afternoon.
They were arrested by Officers Vance Plesko, Michael Gannon and John Roberts after residents reported the theft of mail from boxes.
A Ramapo police investigation with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service found that the suspects would cash checks with small amounts, likely in Brooklyn, and send the large denomination checks to Israel by courier, Detective Lt. Brad Weidel said.
The men also were found with cooking tongs with a double stick tape, used to grab mail they couldn't reach by hand, police said.
Aqva and Benshusahan also are suspected of soliciting door-to-door for bogus charities, Weidel said.
Police charged both men with misdemeanor counts of possessing stolen property and burglar tools, as well as trespass, a violation.
Aqva also was charged with driving without a license and with possessing a $3,500 stolen check from an address in Sharon, Mass., police said.
Aqva's name was turned over to federal immigration officials to determine if he was living in the United States legally, police said. Benshusahan is a U.S. citizen.
Both men were released after posting $5,000 bail.
Police said residents should not place checks in their mailboxes, but should mail them at the post office or give them to the mail carrier.
Anyone who believes their mail was stolen can call Detective Keith Schwartz at 845-357-2400.

ReplyDeleteLast week, Brooklyn, N.Y. resident Christopher Earl Strunk filed a complaint in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia requesting a three-judge panel hear his complaint seeking a temporary restraining order with injunctive relief against defendants’ conduct of the 2010 Decennial Census.
Named defendants include the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census; Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez; New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; New York Province of the Society of Jesus; Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano; House of Representatives; Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; Barry Soetoro (AKA Barack Hussein Obama); the states of California, Texas, Maryland and Hawaii.
Struck believes the federal defendants, including Barry Soetoro, a.k.a Barack Hussein Obama, whom he also refers to as “the Usurper,” are acting in concert with state defendants as a matter of fraud connected to the “use of tourists as if citizens for unjust enrichment.”
By counting “tourists” as if they were permanent residents, Strunk accuses the Census Bureau of disproportionately diminishing and diluting his voting strength, speech and associated representation in elections and in Congress.
He says Bloomberg, both individually and officially, “promotes the New York City sanctuary policy for tourists whether duly documented or not under U.S. law.”
Strunk claims Bloomberg promotes not only the sanctuary policy, but “unlimited tourism along with citizenship equity with those state citizens entitled to rights different than for tourists, resident aliens, minors and civilly dead.”
New York City has more tourists from across the Atlantic Ocean than other states, according to Strunk, “but less proportionately per capita of state resident citizens and permanent resident aliens than say Florida, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas,” due to their close proximity to Mexico and tourists’ ease of travel to those states.
Noting some states entice tourists to stay and reside while others don’t, he said New York City “absolutely provides illegal enticement different than the rest of the state subdivisions,” citing the federal government, for more than 30 years, arbitrarily has not enforced the INA as expressly written, for whatever reason.
In an April press release, Bloomberg announced he intended to count all persons in New York City for the 2010 Census.
Although Strunk goes off on tangents and has somewhat of a history of dismissed complaints for lack of clarity, he apparently has a legitimate complaint in a 2006 case that is still pending in federal court regarding the Help America Vote Act.
Accusing Pelosi of conspiring with La Raza Unida, the Aztlan reconquistas and ACORN, Strunk claims the Executive Branch conspiracy through ultra vires acts (beyond their powers or outside of their authority) to disproportionately shift control of Congress to an unconstitutional enterprise by unconstitutionally naturalizing tourists, contrary to an act of Congress with the plenary power under Article I, section 8, as it applies to the INA, is reverse discrimination of a citizen’s right to suffrage and express forms of liberty different than non-citizens.
Strunk says Hawaii began registering foreign children by the thousands in 1961 to tap into hundreds of millions in federal funding for the state.
Strunk also asserts the Usurper’s mother and maternal grandparents were adept at scamming the American system and tapped into government resources of “free money” to educate foreigners.

ReplyDeleteThe former owner of two medical billing companies has pleaded guilty to engaging in a scheme to defraud insurance companies that provided no-fault medical benefits to motorists, Acting U.S. Attorney Ralph J. Marra Jr. announced.
Aleksander Sirota, also known as Alexander Sirota, 39, of Freehold, also pleaded guilty to money laundering and concealing approximately $1 million in income from the Internal Revenue Service, as well as other charges, according to a press release.
U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton scheduled sentencing for Sept. 29.
Sirota admitted that between April 2001 and June 2005, he conspired with doctors Valery Rimerman and Irina Zelikson to defraud no-fault insurance companies that provided medical benefits to motorists involved in collisions.
Sirota admitted that he, through his companies, TFS Management Services Inc. and later ADS Management Services Inc., the two doctors, and others submitted false bills to insurance companies for medical treatments that had not been rendered to patients.
Sirota also admitted that he and his coconspirators billed insurance companies for medical treatments and services rendered by unlicensed and unqualified individuals.
Zelikson and Rimerman have previously pleaded guilty before Wigenton for their roles in the scheme and await sentencing.
Sirota also admitted that he and his coconspirators laundered about $200,000 to conceal the health care fraud scheme and allow it to continue. He admitted also that he conspired with his accountant, Sophie Uber, and others to defraud the IRS by concealing approximately $1 million in taxable income, and also admitted evading federal taxes.
Uber also has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.
For his guilty plea to conspiracy to commit health care fraud, Sirota faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison; for conspiracy to commit money laundering, he faces a 20-year maximum sentence; for defrauding the IRS, a five-year maximum sentence, and a five-year maximum for tax evasion. Sirota will pay restitution, back taxes, penalties and interest, and he will forfeit $200,000 to the United States.
On Aug. 7, 2008, a second superseding indictment charging Sirota and his father, Grigory Sirota, 63, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was returned, charging each with conspiracy to commit health care fraud, among other offenses. In addition, Jack Melman, also known as Yaakov Melman, 47, of East Brunswick, was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and tax evasion.

ReplyDeleteA Monsey couple who hold mortgages on several million dollars in property was arrested today on charges of stealing $75,000 from federal rent, Medicaid and food stamp programs, Rockland authorities said.
Nathan and Mindy Misky are accused of stealing $26,000 from the Section 8 rent subsidy program in which they pretended to be tenants in a home they owned, as well as $49,000 in food stamps and Medicaid from February 2006 until April 2007, District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said.
The couple, who have 12 children and live at 73 W. Maple Ave., pleaded not guilty to one count each of third-degree grand larceny and third-degree welfare fraud, their lawyers said today.
Their bail was set at $50,000 each by Haverstraw Justice John K. Grant. They were being held in the county jail late this afternoon.
The charges carry sentences of 4 2/3 to 14 years in state prison. The couple also could face federal charges.
Nathan Misky, 52, and Mindy Misky, 49, received Section 8 rent subsidies vouchers after falsely stating they were tenants in their 4,000-square-foot house at 73 W. Maple Ave. appraised at $1.4 million during a mortgage refinancing in 2007, District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said.
The couple transferred ownership of the house to several holding companies and applied for Section 8 rent vouchers, which are reserved for low-income tenants, Zugibe said.
Zugibe said the investigation found that the couple also provided false information to government agencies for welfare benefits. They are accused of failing to report multiple bank accounts containing hundreds of thousands of dollars and upstate property in Rockland and Sullivan counties worth several million dollars, Zugibe said.
The couple was arrested as a result of an investigation by the Rockland District Attorney's Office-Sheriff's Department Special Investigations Unit and the U.S. Housing and Urban Development's Office of Inspector General.
The Rockland Social Services Department Special Investigations Unit assisted.
Prosecutor Gary Lee Heavner said a judge froze the couple's assets, pending the prosecution.
Attorney John Edwards, who represents Mindy Misky, declined comment on the specific charges.
"This is a matter put before the courts by the DA and will be resolved by the courts," Edwards said. "It would be inappropriate for me or the DA to say anything more."
Nathan Misky's lawyer, David Goldstein, said the couple's financial prowess is being overstated by prosecutors. He also was critical that prosecutors didn't ask for his client to surrender, but arrested the Miskys at their home early in the morning.
"These are not wealthy people," Goldstein said. "Whatever houses they own are upside down - the mortgages are worth more than the house, like so many other people across the country."

Solomon Dweck was the product of an Ashkanaz yesivah. He went to Riverdale and was the star student of Rabbi Ausband, who considered him the star of his school, I wonder why rabbi Ausband has not said anything publicly about his prize pupil

ReplyDeleteAlthough Ashkenazi, I have spent much time in the Syrian community and have come to respect it, warts and all. With regard to the takanah against gerim, I was told that Rav Moshe Feinstein once remonstrated with Chacham Yosef Harari-Raful that the takanah was wrong and should be abolished. Rabbi Raful answered back that he would personally see to abolishing it if Rav Moshe would take personal responsibility every time a Syrian Jew intermarried. Rav Moshe basically said, "Keep your takanah." It should be noted that there is a Syrian Jewish community in Manchester, England, which does not observe the takanah, (it was for the western hemisphere only) and their rabbis are notorious for doing dubious conversions. So maybe the rabbis in New York, Mexico City and Buenos Aries had a point. Meanwhile, let's try to avoid the stereotypes such as "boys screwing every girl around." The Syrian Jewish community is very diverse in its observance of everything. You'll have yeshiva types in the same family as those who go to shul three times a year, and everything in between. I've know plenty of Ashkenazi boys who could hold up very well in any screwing contest.
One other thing, the Forward article proves again that Syrian Jews don't talk to the media unless they have an agenda to pursue. In this case, Cohler-Esses's informants have a grudge against the more observant part of the community, and they want the world to know that Solomon Dweck was targeting liberal rabbis to advance the "charedi" faction. Grassy knoll, anyone?

ReplyDeleteAgents secretly taped former Agriprocessors manager
BY GRANT SCHULTE • Des Moines Register
Federal agents investigating alleged crimes at Agriprocessors Inc. secretly recorded two phone conversations of a former plant manager who fled the country before he could be arrested, according to court papers filed Tuesday.
The fugitive, Hosam Amara, remains at large and is believed to be hiding in Israel. The former poultry manager at Postville's kosher slaughterhouse was one of several managers indicted for immigration and fraud charges last year, six months after an immigration raid.
The recorded conversations took place on March 5 and March 10 of this year, according to papers filed in U.S. District Court for Northern Iowa. Amara reportedly left the country in 2008, around the time of the May raid.
Amara, 44, allegedly incriminated himself, former plant executive Sholom Rubashkin and others during the taped conversations with an unknown person. Prosecutors did not elaborate on what Amara said.
Rubashkin has pleaded not guilty to all charges, denied any wrongdoing and vowed to fight the charges at his trial Sept. 15.
Prosecutors said they disclosed the conversations because their investigation of Amara had largely ended, and there is "no possibility that Amara will voluntarily return to the United States."
"The government has a vested interest in attempting to get him to come back to the country voluntarily as extraditing him is a difficult and lengthy process, made all the more difficult by the fact that the government does not know exactly where and in what country he is hiding," Assistant U.S. Attorney C.J. Williams wrote in court papers.
Bob Teig, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office, said he had not seen the court filing and would not confirm that any conversation had been recorded. Federal law allows government agents to record phone conversations, as long as one party is aware. But the conversations were deemed inadmissible in court except to impeach Rubashkin, should he choose to testify.
Charges against Amara include illegal immigrant harboring and various forms of fraud.
The taped conversations were disclosed in a government court filing to oppose delaying the trial of Rubashkin, who is scheduled to face a string of immigration, fraud and other charges at his September trial.
Regarding a recent comment about Yonason Tendler owning a yeshiva. The yeshiva no longer exists here although he may still be using the shell to launder money for Kolko and Margulies.
ReplyDeleteThe reason Rabbi Ausband has not said anything has to do with him being one of those that Dwek approached to launder money. Boruch Hashem he withstood the temptation and showed him the door.
ReplyDeleteson of boog,
ReplyDeletesorry for not responding sooner but i haven't been on this site in a few days. I was not defending everything eckstein does (and certainly not belski). I do, however, respect his willingness to confront the kotler thugs after there hostile takeover of Bais Faiga. The way they attacked him vicously in return shows that they will stop at nothing to destroy their opponents. BTW, the grassroots effort to keep the kotler tentacles off of Bais Faiga worked in the end, so we see that small victories are possible.
