Third day of fee protests at Agudah Convention!

By "Both versions of the story are correct":

Third day of fee protests at Agudah Convention

East Brunswick, New Jersey (CNN) -- Fressers entered their third day of a building takeover at the East Brunswick Hilton on Saturday in protest of an unexpected fee on food that had been previously advertised as free, a mechoah that an Agudah spokesman called futile.

The occupation of the hotel is just one of several demonstrations across Agudah institutions this week after the Agudah's board approved a $32 per person fee for the meat carving station on Thursday.

Agudah officials said the $505 million to be raised by the fee is needed to fight lawsuits that they say could arise from the Markey Bill.

Protesting fressers said the fee will hurt the stomachs of working and middle-class Yidden who benefit from Agudah-funded fressing.

In East Brunswick, where the rioting began last week in the tea room due to stale cookies, about 100 fressers staged a sit-in in the lobby soon after hearing that the fee had been approved, according to Agudah trustee Israel Lefkowitz who tried to drive his Town Car inside to confront them.

YTT Spokesman Yankel Applegrad told CNN that Rabbi Lipa Margulies had been safely spirited out of the hotel by his bodyguards, contrary to earlier reports that he had been trampled when joining a horde of people trying to break into the kitchen to raid the chulent.

The fressers made a list of 20 "demands" detailing how they want the Agudah to increase free gourmet food, spokesman Avi L. Shafran said. But the Agudah has no plans to negotiate the demands with the fresser body, he said. The Agudah just doesn't have the money, which is the same reason why no high end chocolates would be served this year, he added.

Agudah officials hope the fressers realize that their demonstration is "not accomplishing anything" and is "just a disruption" to the duty of combating UOJ, he said.

The Agudah will continue to wait out the takeover, but Shafran said he is unsure of how long it will last. The Agudah hopes the fressers will leave voluntarily without grabbing to chapp aus London Broil, he said.

Meanwhile, uprisings on other campuses have quieted since earlier mass demonstrations.

At Flatbush's Agudah of Ave L on Shabbos night, 41 protesters occupying the shul when they learned there was no sponsor for kiddush, were arrested. Authorities decided to cite them for trespassing and release them rather than take them to jail, per an agreement with Agudah leaders, Brooklyn DA spokesman Jerry Schmetterer said. Three fressers had already been arrested there Friday morning in "Leon Goldenberg's coffee room" when they ran out of sugar cubes.

Fifty-two fressers were arrested at the Agudah of Baltimore late Thursday after they refused to vacate the building in a protest over possible upgrading of standards at the Star-K.

And Agudah HQ at 42 Broadway in Manhattan was occupied for several hours Thursday evening. The angry protesters there are condemning a nearly $2,000 yeshiva tuition increase after the organization dropped the ball on lobbying Albany.

  1. Jewish Fress- NEWS-FLASH: Rumors of fresser arrests are false.

While there was a plan to arrest them at the request of the Agudah budget committee there was a mix-up in the orders transmitted to the police on site. They were not given the special orders of the day and instead were given the standing Agudah orders: free all molesters. Mistaking the fressers for molesters, they were all released and their arrest records have mysteriously dissappeared.

As Sgt timoty O'Reily said, fressers, molesters, it is hard to tell them apart. They look the same. Look anyone can make a mistake, it is just a two syllable difference.

David Zweibel apologized in a statement to the Moetzes: We have made mistakes about molesting in the past, but now we know better. We will vigorously enforce anti-fressing rules in the future. Besides what happened wasn't my fault. It was a NJ Mob power grab.

Our advice- In a changing envrionment of compliance you are well advised to bring along your molester ID card to avoid arrest. If you are caught near the buffet drop your food and grab the nearest kid.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- The captain of a charter jet that crashed on takeoff at a New Jersey airport in 2005 has been indicted on charges of fraud and lying to investigators.

An indictment released Tuesday accuses John Kimberling on being part of a conspiracy with the owners of Platinum Jet Management to operate the charter service without proper certification. Company officials have been charged with falsifying paperwork to show the planes carried less weight than they actually did.

Prosecutors say the overloading of fuel contributed to the February 2005 crash at Teterboro Airport. The plane went through a fence, across a busy intersection and into a warehouse, injuring about 20 people.

  4. An Open message to those planning on attending the Agudath Israel of America’s 2009 Convention:‎

When Mordechai Hatzaddik tried to tell the Jews to boycott the party of King Achashveirosh, he was ‎criticized by the masses and by the great Torah giants of the time. Yet, he understood that King ‎Achashveirosh’s magnanimous gesture of free food was being used to entrap the Jews, and lend ‎legitimacy to ideas that are directly opposed to a Torah lifestyle. The Jews ignored Mordechai and ‎gorged themselves with the free food and alcohol. They were almost destroyed as a result.‎

The Gedolei Eretz Yisroel have made the following statement regarding the 2009 Convention:‎

‎“The Roshei Yeshiva in America are mistaken for not protesting Agudas Yisrael’s connection with the ‎Church yemach shemom. Whoever attends is a Misayeiya Ledevar Aveirah (assistant to a sin) and they ‎will see very soon no siman bracha mimaasei yedeihem. The passuk says clearly, Ach Tov Vachessed ‎Yirdifuni Kal Yemei Chayai. Even if a person sometimes slips and makes a mistake, Yom Kippur can be mechapper. But, to support ‎a Chevras Rodfim that try to be mechazek yedei oseh resha (strengthen the hands of those who act ‎wicked) is not a mistake, it’s on purpose and is a Chillul Hashem. Hashem will mon (hold responsible) those who strengthen ‎the Chillul Hashem coming through the actions of Agudas Yisroel in America. Whoever holds back from attending will see bracha in all their ‎endeavors and will see nachas from their children”‎

  5. I would say that we should attend, picket, leave flyers all over the place, protest those speakers who have failed us, hold up photos of Shua, Motty, Lebovitz, Mondrowitz (especially if anyone from Ger is there) and so forth. Agudah needs to realize that there can not be shalom bayis if it involves muffling the cries of our children who are being molested even as we write and will be crying even as they have mikes are filled with platitudes.

USDA Undersecretary Kevin Concannon discussed his concerns about the policy while visiting a food pantry on the Upper East Side this morning. "My bigger concern is does it have an unintended consequence of dissuading people from coming forward who need the benefits? I can tell you that if an application came to me in 2009 to begin finger imaging we wouldn't approve it."

Mayor Bloomberg has been criticized for insisting on fingerprinting for food stamps in New York despite low levels of fraud. New York City is only one of four places in the US that force people to get fingerprinted for food stamps.

Today the City's Human Resources Administration issued this statement, defending the practice
“Finger imaging is a simple, reliable fraud prevention method that has proven successful in protecting valuable taxpayer dollars – which is more important than ever when funds are scarce. The substantial growth in the number of New Yorkers we’ve been able to help with food stamps under the Bloomberg Administration demonstrates that finger imaging is not a deterrent to enrolling in the program."

The finger imaging requirements were adopted in 1994 during the nation's Republican welfare reform movement.

  13. It's possible that Avi Weiss objected to the Conservative & Reform rabbis on the beis din because in that particular case, kabbolas mitzvos was required for gerus.

But otherwise, Avi Weiss and the rest of them are infected with the same sickness whereby they think that Conservative & Reform rabbis are just as legit.

  14. Fraud prevention is good. But why do they spend the most money to deal with the smallest fraudsters and conveniently do nothing with the biggies. The same poor-haters who did the fingerprinting rules castrated the SEC to the point where they sent a kid straight out of school to check on Madoff who regaled the kid with name dropping and got him to go home without even asking if Madoff could show any records of his transactions. For decades the audit rate for poor folks has gone up while the audit rates for billionaires keeps dropping. I dont have an MBA, but dont you think you can make a lot more money auditing someone who might have cheated on taxes by millions instead of catching a shnook who didnt report a few thousand dollars income.

I would say we will get a lot more savings by fingerpriting lobbyists and running the proctoscope exam on them.

ATLANTA – A metro Atlanta nurse anesthetist has been charged with molesting and sodomizing anesthetized patients in dental and medical offices, and police say the videotaped abuses could involve 100 or more victims.

Paul Patrick Serdula, 47, who worked in dental and medical offices across metro Atlanta, was arrested Monday night on child molestation and sodomy charges. The arrest came after authorities found several videos showing him fondling and groping patients who were under anesthesia at various offices, said Cobb County police officer Joe Hernandez.

And authorities reviewing the videos to find more victims say the assaults could go back years and involve residents of other states who were treated by Serdula while they were in Georgia.

"The magnitude of this is almost surreal," said Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Serdula, who is being held at the Cobb County Jail without bond, was first arrested Nov. 18 on three counts of unlawful surveillance after a woman found a tiny camera hidden in a bathroom stall at a Cobb County dental office. He was charged with unlawful surveillance and eavesdropping and released on bond.

He was re-arrested at about 10 p.m. Monday and charged with aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual battery, among other counts, said Hernandez. At least one victim was a juvenile, he said. Hernandez would not disclose the gender of the juvenile or the other victims.

Police said Serdula has an attorney, but they could not immediately provide the attorney's name.

Serdula, whose license was suspended after his arrest, first registered as a nurse in Georgia in 1997. Authorities said he was not working exclusively for any one physician but instead was a contractor hired by medical providers on a temporary basis. They said that gave him access to offices across the metro Atlanta area.

Pierce said detectives have talked to several patients who believe they are victims, and investigators are now searching the videos for more clues and more victims.

"This case is absolutely far from over," he said.

But the investigation poses a unique challenge for detectives, as many of the potential victims don't know they were targeted because they were under anesthesia.

Police are encouraging anyone worried about whether they might be a victim to contact their medical provider to see if they had ever hired Serdula. If so, said Hernandez, they should immediately contact the Cobb County Police.

Police said they do not believe victims were at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease as a result of the incidents. Hernandez said none of Serdula's actions "would require STD tests at this time."

  19. Tropper is Troubled7:50 AM, November 26, 2009

Tropper's and R Aron Shechter's mutual admiration society.

Tropper has his own blog, not some commercial one like Blogger, but a controlled one all of his own. He can post whatever he likes. Drivel, lies, lomdus and drek, it's all the same as long as he keeps on posting self-compliments and heaping self-praise on...you guessesd it...himself. So this is his latest shameless post. Read it, see what you can make out:

"R’ Ahron Shechter on EJF: A Letter to Rabbi Tropper Posted by Rabbi Tropper Posted in EJF Posted on 24-11-2009

R’ Leib, Last night my son Shmuel drove R’Ahron Shechter home from the Chaim Berlin dinner. R’Ahron asked about me and Shmuel told him I was just at the EJF kenes in NJ. R’Ahron went into a long description of how highly he thinks of the EJF, the tremendous importance of what it does and the many things it has already accomplished. Its good for you to realize how much you are appreciated. Bivracha, H. Berger"

You can almost feel the violin music playing. Who are these people trying to fool? And why does Tropper have the temerity to head his post as if R Aron Shechter has written him anything, when it's actually NOTHING, gornisht mit gornisht, just an alleged unproven word of mouth hearsay that a father supposedly conveys (either by phone, Email, carrier pidgeon or whatever) about some drivel that a kid, acting as a gofer, designated driver and captive audience, heard in his car from the tottering R Aron Shechter, who has always been both Tropper's biggest fan and his most secretive behind the scenes advisor on everything.

What does it tell you that these two uncaring cruel tyrants with ice in their veins that act like tin pot dicators admire each other? About as much as Ahmadinejad's and Chavez's mutual admiration society.

Shechter says that EJF has "many things it has already accomplished." Like what? Bribing hundreds of rabbis with millions of dollars to come to EJF conventions? The Agudah rabbis must be happy that unlike their own dinners where people must pay for themselves, at EJF there are not just free lunches, but suppers, breakfasts and money into the pockets of batei din too. Really great isn't it.

Tropper has sown more suspicioun and divisiveness than any other rabbi in recent times, backed up by Tom Kaplan's silly spending binges on him. Not to mention the huge legal battles and accusations of fraud and misuse of funds that Tropper now faces in Beit Din and in Court.

Maybe Shechter hasn't heard about all this and more likely he doesn't give a damn. But of this Shechter is proud? Oh yeah, right, Shechter is famous for dumping what Batie Din say in any case when he proved how ruthless he could be in destroying the life of his own yeshiva's mashgiach ruchani 30 years ago as everyone knows. Shechter is actually in cherem for that, he defied Rav Moshe Feinstein yet, but don't let that bother you. So who does Tropper think he's kidding besides his own fat over-inflated stinking egomania?

Book Calls Jewish People an ‘Invention’

    By PATRICIA COHEN

Professor Sand, a scholar of modern France, not Jewish history, candidly states his aim is to undercut the Jews’ claims to the land of Israel by demonstrating that they do not constitute “a people,” with a shared racial or biological past.

Consider, for instance, Professor Sand’s assertion that Palestinian Arab villagers are descended from the original Jewish farmers.

Since Professor Sand’s mission is to discredit Jews’ historical claims to the territory, he is keen to show that their ancestry lines do not lead back to ancient Palestine.

Professor Sand accuses Zionist historians from the 19th century onward — the very same scholars on whose work he bases his case — of hiding the truth and creating a myth of shared roots to strengthen their nationalist agenda.

POSTVILLE - Former Agriprocessors Manager Sholom Rubashkin is getting a lot of support from the Jewish Community in Postville. A jury convicted Rubashkin last week of 86 federal fraud charges.

Several homes have posters of Rubashkin on an American flag reading "Send Shalom Home" in their front yards. That's upsetting some veterans who say this is illegal.

Local veterans are angry about the design of the posters.

"I was outraged," Veteran Gary Hooper said.

"You got him pasted right into the flag...that's not right," Veteran Terry McNally.

They point to a section of the Iowa Code that makes it illegal to desecrate a flag.

Veteran Harlan White said, "The flag is very sacred to me and our country."

"I sacrificed my blood for the flag, so did my father and grandfather. It means our freedom," Hooper added.

City and state officials say its unclear whether the poster actually violates the law or not.

The Postville VFW is preparing a response and also asking for an apology from those who displayed the signs in their yards.

Neil Sankey has spent his life investigating organised crimes. As a former British police officer with almost 20 years experience, he was seconded to elite units of Scotland Yard through most of the 1970s and now runs his own private detective agency in California.

Over the years he has been involved in some big investigations. As part of the Special Branch and Bomb Squad he monitored British leftwing groups and the IRA, and in America his clients have included several big car companies.

But never has he handled anything quite as monumental as the investigation that is absorbing his energies today.

Sankey is pursuing what he believes to be fraud on a gigantic scale — a conspiracy, no less, to infiltrate and destroy the free world by putting a foreign imposter into the White House.

identification history which has revealed, he believes, a suspicious multiplicity of social security numbers.

Sankey says his fascination began with the realisation "that this man wasn't what he said he was. He wasn't an ordinary Democrat — he was far more extreme than that." So about a year ago he began reading blogs and websites that claimed to expose Obama's foreign roots, his spurious Hawaiian birth certificate and the $2m White House cover-up that has prevented the public finding out about the plot.

Sankey contends that his police experience in England now informs his fight against Obama. "It's quite obvious to me — America is heading towards a socialised state just as has happened in Europe. Socialised medicine, everyone on the dole, and when everything collapses you tip the scales into Marxism."

Some Jostling, but Less of a Frenzy Among Shoppers

    By STEPHANIE ROSENBLOOM

In the early hours of Friday morning, on the nation’s most high-octane shopping day of the year, tighter security was evident at Wal-Mart stores throughout the country.

The giant discount retailer, a go-to destination during the economic downturn, had opened most stores on Thursday, an attempt to control crowds and avoid a repeat of last year when a worker was trampled and then died in Valley Stream, N.Y.

In that sense, the added security seemed to pay off. Yet many stores were chaotic, and shoppers jostled to get at the deeply discounted merchandise.

At the Valley Stream Wal-Mart, where Jdimytai Damour died last year soon after being trampled, there was a phalanx of security personnel at the front entrance, including police, Wal-Mart workers and private security guards. All was calm but for the usual squabbles and shouts of “He cut the line!” Wal-Mart employees doled out water, chips and crackers.

In a Wal-Mart in Rolling Meadows, just outside of Chicago, the more aggressive bargain-hunters tried to rip open the plastic surrounding the stacks of eye-popping limited quantity deals — known as doorbusters — before the goods were officially on sale at 5 a.m.

Over all, the bigger problem was that stores had very limited quantities of its doorbusters. Many early-bird shoppers left without.

At the Wal-Mart in Valley Stream, security guards shouted that “all the sale items are gone,” causing dismay among throngs of shoppers.

A company director accused of defrauding a fashion group of more than $16 million cannot find $500,000 to post bail, although a magistrate has been told $6 million of the money is still unaccounted for.

Simon Ari Feldman, 42, from Turramurra on Sydney's north shore, was property director for Specialty Fashion Group Ltd (SFG) when he allegedly authorised the payment of 107 fake invoices between April 2006 and May this year.

The invoices, which varied from $9,000 to more than $270,000, were paid to his company Muirhead Nominees Pty Ltd for services and supplies he never delivered, police say.

"(The money) was purported to be for legitimate capital expenditure and maintenance expenses, but used for his and others personal use," the charge sheet read.

Police say the scam netted him $16 million.

Earlier this year, SFG, the company behind fashion chains Katies, Queenspark, City Chic and Miller's Fashion Club, sued Feldman in the Supreme Court in an attempt to get its money back.

He agreed to repay the money but the court was told he did not have the funds to do so.

Feldman was arrested on Wednesday and charged with 107 offences relating to the invoices.

He was remanded in custody because he could not raise the $500,000 required to post bail.

At a bail hearing in Central Local Court on Friday, Feldman made an application to allow two people to come up with the security money - instead of one - because Feldman could not raise the cash.

Magistrate Julie Huber was told his personal assets and his wife's assets had been frozen as a result of the civil proceedings.

While Ms Huber granted the request, she noted prosecutors were still trying to track down a missing $6 million.

"Pros alleges that approx $6 mill not accounted for," she wrote on court papers.

By close of court on Friday, Feldman was still in his cell below the court.

His lawyer visited him and a family rabbi dropped off a prayer book but no one came up with the cash.

If the Jewish community had built orphanages instead of pretending single women weren’t getting pregnant, suggested Chae-ran Freeze of Brandeis University, such tragedies could have been avoided.

“Many of the men who seduced these women emigrated to America, leaving them behind,” said Freeze, author of the forthcoming “Sex and the Shtetl: Gender, Family, and Jewish Sexuality in Tsarist Russia.”

Edward Portnoy of Rutgers University described “dowry farmers,” Jewish men who married young women for their dowries, then left for the New World. Others married multiple women in Europe and sailed to New York, then sent for the women and forced them into prostitution.

“Geographic mobility, to a certain extent, shaped sexual behavior and morality,” said Freeze. “These men didn’t have to account for their behavior because they were leaving.”

SYDNEY, Australia (JTA) -- A Jewish businessman accused of defrauding investors of $1.7 billion reportedly has left his home in Sydney fearing for his safety.

South African-born Barry Tannenbaum has “relocated to what he perceives to be a safer location,” his lawyer, Darryl Ackerman, said Tuesday in an interview with Bloomberg, adding that his client was not fleeing prosecution.

South African authorities issued an arrest warrant for Tannenbaum last month along with his Swiss-based associate Dean Rees, who also is implicated in the Ponzi scheme. The scheme is believed to have duped about 800 investors in several countries who allegedly were promised returns of up to 200 percent.

Tannenbaum, whose assets also have been frozen in South Africa, denied the “wild allegations” as “conjecture and speculation” when the alleged scheme was revealed in June.

The Sydney Morning Herald tracked him down to Sydney’s North Shore, where he had been living with his family for several years. His children attended the local Jewish school and Tannenbaum had been a member of an Orthodox synagogue.

Tannenbaum, who comes from a family of well-known philanthropists in South Africa, is pictured on the Lubavitch.org Web site holding a Torah scroll he helped donate to a Chabad house in South Africa in 2006.

One of Pinellas County's biggest nonprofits paid $25,000 to settle a sexual harassment claim against its president in 2008, though he denied any wrongdoing, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Michael Bernstein, 57, resigned Oct. 14 as president of Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services, the charity he served for three decades. A week later, he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Valdosta, Ga., hotel room.

But the organization is now in the process of investigating two other sexual harassment complaints against Bernstein by former employees, as well as an allegation that he had staffers do repairs at his home, Gadd said.

Tom Petters' taped accusations about Robert and Jon Sabes, played in court Tuesday, are not the Sabes family's first brush with controversy. Robert W. Sabes, 69, lives in Las Vegas now. But his many years in gaming, restaurants and the investment business in the Twin Cities earned him considerable wealth and standing as a philanthropist -- as well as the occasional headline.

The Sabes Family Foundation is known for charitable contributions, particularly to Jewish causes. Robert Sabes (pronounced SAY-biz) is also known for running the Minneapolis strip club Schieks Palace Royale (formerly Solid Gold). Sabes sold the nightclub in 2007 for a reported $10 million.

Back in 1994, a former business associate of Sabes, strip club magnate Michael J. Peter, was indicted in Florida on charges of racketeering and selling hidden interests in one of his many strip clubs, called Thee Dollhouse III, to reputed members of the Gambino crime family. Peter had managed Solid Gold in Minneapolis, which was part of a national chain, for Sabes. Peter eventually pleaded guilty to a count of mail fraud.

Mob talk dogged Sabes in the gaming industry, too. According to a 1993 U.S. News and World Report story headlined "Gaming with the Mob?", Sabes testified before a gaming commission that he had done business with a partner of Michael Peter named James Williams. Williams was convicted in the late 1980s of tax evasion connected to money he earned from running bingo halls for Indian tribes. Police linked Williams to another New York crime family.

In a 1993 cover story in Corporate Report, "Guilt by Association," Sabes denied mob links and said he had only arm's-length connections to people who got in trouble. The rumors caused Sabes to resign as CEO of Gaming Corporation of America, a company developing gaming operations with Indian tribes.

A former executive at Stratton Oakmont, a notorious boiler room, has been found guilty of securities fraud — more than 11 years after he was kicked out of the industry by NASD Regulation.

Irving Stitsky, a former managing director and junior partner at Stratton Oakmont, and two colleagues stole more than $18 million from 150 investors using phony or ginned-up private placements, according to a statement released yesterday by the U.S. Attorney's Office' for the Southern District of New York.

Mr. Stitsky, along with Mark Alan Shapiro and William B. Foster, operated a group of companies under the name “Cobalt,” which claimed to acquire and develop real estate properties throughout the United States.

In the brokerage industry, Stratton Oakmont's name is almost synonymous with the phrase “boiler room.” Stratton brokers in the 1990s used high pressure tactics to sell investors an array of initial public offerings, many of which turned out to be worthless.

Regulators shut the firm down in 1996, and in 1999 the firm's two founders pleaded guilty to counts of securities fraud and money laundering.

Because of NASD rules, investors since 2000 could not check Mr. Stitsky's record and background in the securities business with the NASD, which evolved into Finra in 2007 after its merger with NYSE Regulation Inc.

After two years — regardless of their standing in the industry — brokers' records are taken down from Finra's public web site, called BrokerCheck.

The lack of information about barred brokers like Mr. Stitsky, however, is changing. Earlier this month, Finra, the brokerage industry's self-policing body, said it had won approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission to expand the BrokerCheck Service and make disciplinary records available permanently.

According to the U.S. attorney's office, the three Cobalt executives lied about the company's history and caused others to lie to investors about Cobalt's ownership of certain properties. Mr. Stitsky and Mr. Shapiro also failed to tell investors they were convicted felons.

Shapiro, 60, previously served 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to bank fraud and conspiracy to commit tax fraud, according to the Justice Department complaint.

Stitsky, 55, has also plead guilty to fraud charges, including conspiracy to commit securities fraud, wire fraud and commercial bribery in the Southern District of New York in Manhattan and of making false statements and of conspiracy to commit securities fraud in the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, according to the complaint.

After a three-week trial, Mr. Stitsky, Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Foster, 69, were also found guilty of wire fraud, mail fraud and conspiracy charges. They will be sentenced in February. They face up to 20 years in prison on each fraud charge. Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Stitsky were ordered jailed, pending sentencing.

    http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/25/law-protecting-workers-from-retaliation-takes-effect/

A law that increases penalties for companies that retaliate against employees who complain about labor-law violations takes effect this week, at a time when the state has stepped up enforcement of minimum-wage standards and other labor standards.

The law increases the minimum civil penalty for retaliation to $2,000 from $200 and the maximum penalty to $10,000 from $1,000. The new law also allows the state labor commissioner to award lost compensation to workers who have been victims of employer retaliation.

“Every worker in New York is afforded basic protections under state labor law -– minimum wage, meal breaks and the right to be paid in a timely manner,” Gov. David A. Paterson, who signed the law on Aug. 26, said in a statement. “Oftentimes, when workers are not afforded those rights, many are too apprehensive to come forward due to fear of retaliation by their employers. This law will persuade more workers to come forward, while at the same time ensuring that lawbreaking employers who do retaliate against workers will face stiff penalties.”

Retaliatory acts include firings, demotions, salary reductions and reassignments to less-desirable work shifts or work duties.

The Labor Department encouraged anyone with complaints of labor-law violations to call 1-888-52-LABOR.

After the Agudah Secret Service insisted that the Moetzes was never endangered by a security breach that allowed a couple of anti-molester protesters to crash the keynote address of the Agudah Fresser Convention, the Agudah has released a photo showing that not only did the pair get close to Jacob Perlow, they were actually wearing UOJ baseball caps without anyone noticing.

As the Agudah was disclosing that the couple met Perlow in the receiving line, a "deeply concerned and embarrassed" Agudah Secret Service acknowledged that its officers never checked the lettering on their baseball caps before letting them onto the East Brunswick Hilton grounds.

The Agudah Secret Service earlier this week had said the Moetzes was not in danger because the couple — like others at the dinner — had gone through magnetometers that checked for the presence of UOJ live-blogging on Blackberry devices.

The protesters were not on the guest list and should have been barred from entering the Fresser Convention, said Agudah Secret Service Director Avremel Schorr. Schorr said the agency that protects the Moetzes is "deeply concerned and embarrassed" that procedures to rip off the baseball caps were not followed.

"As our investigation continues, appropriate measures have been taken to ensure this is not repeated," Schorr said in a written statement.

"The preliminary findings of our internal investigation have determined established protocols were not followed at an initial checkpoint, verifying that two individuals were on the guest list," Schorr said. "Although these individuals went through magnetometers and other levels of screening, they should have been prohibited from entering the event entirely. That failing is ours."

Agudah Secret Service spokesman Tuvya Chaim Neuhof said officers at the checkpoint had a clipboard with names of the invited guests. Even though the names weren't on it, they were allowed to proceed. The officers should have called someone on Zweibel's staff before allowing them past the checkpoint, Neuhof said, adding that he "feels like a putz".

Earlier, Neuhof said the Agudah Secret Service may pursue hazmonos and a smear campaign against the protesters.

Schorr said it wasn't good enough that his agency screened more than 1.2 million fressers last year and protected more than 10,000 sites for the Agudah.

"Even with these successes, we need to be right 100 percent of the time," he said.

It is unclear what the couple told officers at the checkpoint that allowed them to go through the security screening. Agudah law makes it a crime to knowingly and willfully tell the truth about molesters within any jurisdiction.

Agudah spokesman Avi L. Shafran vowed the Agudah Secret Service will take appropriate action once the review is completed.

Sruly Singer, (Forest Hills) the ranking former honoree on the Agudah Security Committee, told The New York Times that he was demanding a congressional investigation.

They were photographed with Executive Vice President Chaim Dovid Zweibel, Yated News anchor Pinny Lipschutz, Ohel Chief of Staff David Mandel - and even a YTT thug contingent. And then they posted the pictures for all the world to see on UOJ's Facebook page.

"They could have tarnished the reputation of the Agudah using other means - iPods that tape record secret discussions of covering up for molesters, for example," said Paysach Krohn, author of a book on covering up for molester brother in laws. The Agudah Secret Service does not check for iPods, he said.

'Medicare for all," is the rallying cry on ObamaCare from congressional Democrats, led by Brooklyn's Rep. Anthony Weiner, who insist the medical program for seniors proves that a single-payer system works, and works well.
Alas, it proves nothing of the sort.
Indeed, Weiner & Co. may want to check out the numbers in an explosive new federal report.
According to the survey, Washington paid more than $47 billion in questionable or fraudulent Medicare claims in FY 2009 -- fully 12.4 percent of the $440 billion program's annual budget.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services report says Medicare fraud for the first nine months of 2009 increased at a rate nearly triple the previous year.

Moreover, according to Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), federal watchdogs received 30 fraud warnings over the previous years from inspectors, including of organized crime scams and physician kickbacks -- and simply ignored them.
None of this should surprise: Critics have been warning of widespread Medicare fraud for at least two decades.
Medicare's trustees have warned that the program's trust fund will be empty within a decade, because spending far outstrips the taxes that support it.

NEW YORK, NY (November 18, 2009) - Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo and New York Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly today announced the arrest of twenty-two individuals - including reputed "made men" from the Gambino and Luchese crime families and an active New York State Court Officer - on charges stemming from the operation of lucrative loan sharking and gambling activities closely controlled by organized crime.
A series of early morning raids conducted by Attorney General Cuomo's Organized Crime Task Force and the New York City Police Department capped long-term investigations dubbed "Operation Pure Luck" and "Operation Night Gallery." Based on the evidence obtained in these investigations, the Attorney General's office secured five separate indictments from a Richmond County grand jury, charging a total of twenty-two individuals and a corporation on felony and misdemeanor charges. A full list of all charged individuals is below.

    · New York City Department of Sanitation Deputy Chief Frederick Grimaldi, who, acting with his alleged Gambino-soldier father-in-law Michael Murdocco, is charged with leaking contract bids, in exchange for money
    · New York State Court Officer Scott Weissman, who allegedly served as a "sheet holder" for alleged Gambino associate Vinnie LaFace (a "sheet holder" serves as an intermediary between a bookmaker and a group of bettors and receives a commission on bets made through him to the bookmaker)
    · Alleged Gambino capo Carmine Sciandra, who owns a chain of popular supermarkets on Staten Island called "Top Tomato"
    · Alleged Gambino associate Benedetto Casale, who owns the Casale Tile store in Staten Island
The investigations used wiretaps, video and audio surveillance, GPS tracking, and bugs inside key locations to gather evidence. Surveillance was also conducted on the Staten Island Ferry and throughout the streets of Staten Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey. Some defendants would use the ferry and conduct business on street corners in an effort to avoid detection by law enforcement.

  50. Tropper is Troubled2:08 PM, November 29, 2009

    Tropper hunts in the jungles.

Rabbi Tropper is a truly funny man. Prior to launching his EJF scheme with Tom Kaplan and Guma Aguiar about four years ago, he was most famous for plotting with Rabbi Leib Pinter (now in jail for fraud) and a few other rabbinical miscreants to bring down Rabbi Natan Slifkin the so-called zoo rabbi. Never mind that at the time, Slifkin had the support of quite a few senior rabbis, and for a years the two leading baal teshuva yeshivas and their faculty at Ohr Somaych and Aish Hatorah in Jerusalem considered Rabbi Slifkin's books and lectures as invaluable in helping to bring back to Yiddishkeit many, many young people raised in secular schools and colleges. But that only made Tropper work harder to plot against Slifkin, and helped to come up with bobba-meises (old wive's tales) falsely alleging that one or two of his students "dropped out" of Yiddishkeit after reading a Slifkin book.

But be that as it may, Slifkin has investigated this matter and has proven that Tropper's claims are lies, "Rabbi Tropper created a story that was told to the Rabbis were were approached to condemn the books." But Tropper ever the insecure egomaniac recently posted another defense of his actions on his putrid blog, The real facts about some recent allegations, Posted by Rabbi Tropper Posted in EJF Posted on 18-11-2009: "1. Hagaon Rav Aaron Feldman Shlit”a discussed Rabbi Slifkin’s position with Maran Harav Eliyashuv Shlit”a before Maran signed the ban."

Yet, with dollops of chutzpa and hypocrisy Tropper continues to take tens of millions of dollars for himself and for the EJF scheme from one like Tom Kaplan, who besides wanting to irrationaly fund Tropper's meshugasen, his main hobby is preserving what they call in Yiddish, vilde chayos ra'os the "big cats" of the world and has set up a huge effort called Panthera, bigger than the EJF nightmare, to preserve feline predators. But not just preserve them, Kaplan gets off on watching them mate multiple times, in his own words: Tom Kaplan: 'I have big plans for big cats' UK Telegraph, 11 Aug 2009: "When Kaplan talks about the big cats he has seen in the wild, it could be a schoolboy speaking. "I once saw a male and female tiger together in a reserve in Rajasthan. They must have mated about eight times in two hours! And after each time, the female cuffed the male, as if she was cross with him. Extraordinary" and more like this.

And this is the guy that Tropper favors over Slifkin. Slifkin has no interest in getting a vicarious thrill from watching tigers mate "eight times" -- he has written some books that help rational people in the modern age deal with their existential questions about creation, nature and the animal kingdom. Yeshiva boys and bais yaakov girls are not going to be influenced by him in any case. His target audience is mainly secular Jews searching for answers. You do not have to agree with Slifkin, but you don't have to launch a book-burning character assassination jihad against him either, especially if you know next to nothing about the subject. Rabbis are not scientists and they don't claim to be, usually they don't care much about science. That's fine, but why take out a longknife and destroy someone who's doing good work in the field of helping mostly secular Jews deal with overcoming the conflicts in belief that they have over these issues?

Tropper's hypocrisy is that while he works hard to keep on killing the zoo rabbi, he does not have any problems taking millions from his big cats backer who watches dangerous predatory human-killer cats fornicate and tells it over for thr world to know yet.
