Just How Crazy Is Rabbi Yisroel Belsky - From Yeshiva Torah Vodaath!?

"Rabbi Yisroel Belsky said, "such behavior (as that of the victim's father) wouldn't be tolerated'' elsewhere. "When your child tells you something, you don't go straight to a prosecutor, you go to a Bais Din and let them examine the (evidence).'' Belsky, a rabbi at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn and a member of the Orthodox Union, a national Jewish lobby, said he has not seen the flier but claims "there's no evidence at all'' against Kolko".

One man's criminal accusation that a teacher molested his young son has widened the rift in the Orthodox Jewish community over where religious rights stop and the justice system begins.

Some inside the tight-knit enclave praised the child's father for bypassing religious protocols last year and reporting the alleged attack first to Ocean County prosecutors. Others believe he committed a sin because he failed to get permission from a rabbinic court before pressing charges against a fellow Jew.

"The first step is to go to rabbis,'' said Rabbi Shmuel Meir Katz, a senior Dayan, or decider of Jewish law. He teaches at Beth Medrash Govoha, a yeshiva in Lakewood that is one of the foremost Jewish universities in the world. "We have our own system. We have our own laws, and as long as the Bais Din (rabbinical tribunal) feels competent on taking care of something themselves, that's our surest recourse in our circles.'

At the center of the controversy are the criminal charges against Yosef Kolko, 36, a former camp counselor and local yeshiva teacher. At his arraignment Tuesday, Kolko pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment. The child was between 11 and 12 years old when the more than yearlong alleged abuse began in Lakewood, according to the indictment. The Asbury Park Press is withholding the father's name to protect the child's identity.

The case is a stark example of what Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford described as a "wall of silence'' in the community that has made investigating crimes difficult.

The decision of the child's father to go immediately to authorities last year has sparked reprisals, according to prosecutors and witnesses. Attempts were made to pressure the father to drop the charges. Fliers about him were circulated. In June, a Lakewood resident was arrested and charged with witness-tampering.....

Your days of running a protection racket for your friends the Kolkos are coming to an end.

Analyzing Hersh in his own words, 3

From the EFF's posting of Hersh's Plaintiffs' First Amended Verified Complaint [35 page, PDF, 2.77 MB], still looking at point 1 in the "Preliminary Statement" false premises that are excreted defy the reality of Hersh' own life and background.

Defying all reason and belief, poor old Hersh feels and accuses his wife's own sister, Rebecca Greher Hersh, of deploying a "task force" of at least 33 folks cited in the case (15 named plus 18 "John Does") not to mention many other relatives and potentially hundreds of bloggers and commenters of having nothing better to do than to deprive poor old Mike Hersh of his job and earnings: "The campaign was intended to, and certainly had the effect of...to terminate employment" that will turn out to be none other than the humanitarian Hatzalah based in Brooklyn, and of harming other alleged "prospective business relationships" because in case you didn't know, Hersh will eventually claim that he had great technological inventions to give to humanity that have been denied him by what happened.

Now if is not called selective argumentation based on selective amnesia than nothing is. It is absolutely crazy to think that this is how it starts and this should be an intelligent starting point for any discussion to claim anything about Hersh.

Get this: No one begrudges him the making of money and no one begrudges him making a good living and that has never been the subject of anything. But he, or anyone for that matter, has the right to abuse any children, be they his own or anyone else's which is what what has been the root of the problem all along.

Are Hersh' lawyers that shallow that they think that the main issue is what they say it is in their fairyland as dictated by Hersh? when the real issues and problems stem from Hersh's abuse of his kids, and wife Miriam Greher for that matter, that his wife's family, both her sisters, their spouses and Miriam's parents have fought tooth and nail for to get them out of the grip of Hersh's demented grasp that's obvious to EVERYONE, except to Hersh, his blindly prejudiced and somewhat senile 85 year old rabbi, Aron Schechter and of course the mercenary lawyers who will see anyone's side as long as they stand to make money of it.

So much for point 1 of this so far very stupid and dishonest "Preliminary Statement" as an excuse to extract money and cover up Hersh' own real faults and his own SELF-INFLICTED DAMAGES, what else, as expected to come in point 2.

Someone in food (who needs Belsky's heterim at the OU to reduce his operating costs) was recently defending Belsky's positions in halacha.

The fellow was immediately countered by a cynic who offered that Belsky is a big machmir when it comes to protecting pedophiles. This sharp observation was followed by someone else blurting out rather loudly that "Belsky is a SHMUCK, and that's SHMUCK with capital letters!"

  8. I am amazed in reading the comments on the Asbury Park Press's website how much the community despises the hareidim in Lakewood. Their contemptable behavior has brought this hatred forth (not the so-called "Esav sonei le'Ya'akov" crap that they continually spew) and I'm afraid will result in a tremendous rise in anti-Semitism. I hope that this Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur will bring a change of heart to the overly self-righteous and self-confident hareidi community to change their ways before it's too late.

A century or so ago, some names were simplified by shipping agents as immigrants boarded ships in Europe. Others were transliterated, but rarely changed, by immigration officials at Ellis Island. Many newcomers changed their names legally, from Sapusnick to Phillips (“difficulty in pronouncing name, interferes with their business,” according to a legal notice), Laskowsky to Lake (“former name not American”) and from Katchka to Kalin (Katchka means duck in Yiddish and a particular Mr. Katchka was “subjected to ridicule and annoyance because of this”).

Most requests appear to have been granted routinely, although as recently as 1967, a Civil Court judge in Brooklyn refused to change Samuel Weinberg’s family name to Lansing “for future business reasons, such that my sons shall not bear any possible stigma.” The judge’s name was Jacob Weinberg.

An orthodox Jewish couple who opened their Queens, New York home for the cast and crew of DREW BARRYMORE's new movie GOING THE DISTANCE demanded producers replace their grill and kitchen utensils after learning an inconsiderate crewmember had used the kitchen to cook a hamburger.

Barrymore and real-life boyfriend Justin Long filmed a znus scene in the apartment on the dining room table.

The owners had no problems with the znus, but were horrified when they realised someone had cooked a burger in the house.

Long explains, "They were incredibly sweet people... and we did one scene where we had to eat around this dinner table and we were eating these hamburgers and the prop guy was making the burgers on the grill that the orthodox couple owned and they found out and they got very upset about it.

"They took issue with it because it was not kosher food and it had touched their grill, so they wanted the studio to replace the grill, which they did, and they wanted to replace any utensil that had touched the grill. That's how serious these people were.

"Somebody, while we were shooting the znus-on-their-dining-room-table scene, raised the point, 'Well, if they had a problem with that meat...' We did take after take."

    Criticism misses point about priorities

    AUGUST 26, 2010

There have been many letters to the editor in response to my letter about the abomination that was the Clinton wedding. Several writers chided me, saying that it was none of my business. This is a letters section, where people offer their opinions on current events. If the Clinton wedding is none of my business, then my letter is none of their business.

What the angry writers missed is that Judaism is a religion, not a reality show. We actually have rules and regulations to live by, which include keeping the shabbat, eating kosher, and not marrying non-Jews.

The groom here hit the trifecta all in one day. The wearing of religious garb only made the whole affair more ludicrous. And when and if they have children, those children will not be Jewish. Big deal? Yes, if you care about your religion.

Mr. Mayor, Have You No Shame?

Why Michael Bloomberg is imitating Joe McCarthy.

    By JAMES TARANTO

Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, has an op-ed in today's New York Post defending the Ground Zero mosque. Actually, the Post informs us, it's an adaptation of "Bloomberg's prepared remarks for his annual Ramadan celebration at Gracie Mansion yesterday."

It is a low performance. Bloomberg panders to his audience by slandering the two-thirds or so of Americans who take offense at the idea of a fancy new mosque near the site of an Islamic supremacist atrocity:

Islam did not attack the World Trade Center--al Qaeda did. To implicate all of Islam for the actions of a few who twisted a great religion is unfair and un-American.

The substance of this statement is unremarkable: Obviously it is wrong to implicate all of Islam in the 9/11 attacks.

But the mayor employs scurrilous McCarthyite rhetoric in an attempt to inflame emotions and divert attention from a point that should be equally obvious: The Ground Zero mosque planners have implicated themselves by seeking to exploit the symbolism of the site, whatever their purpose is in doing so.

Zach Intrater, an assistant U.S. attorney, argued that no amount of bail could assure keep Weinstein would not flee. He faces decades in prison, has extensive ties in Israel and still has not accounted for most of the missing $200 million, Intrater said. On the day he was arrested, Weinstein’s own wife tried to smuggle jewelry out of their home in their housekeeper’s bra, Intrater said.

"The defendant has a motive to flee. And he has the means to flee. How do we know? Where is the $200 million. If he is out, he will know where to get it," Intrater said.

A veteran Criminal Court judge resigned in disgrace after investigators uncovered pornography on his courthouse computer, sources told the Daily News.

James D. Gibbons, who spent 14 years as a prosecutor before moving to the bench, submitted his sudden and stunning resignation on Aug. 17 after last week's shocking find.

Gibbons was busted after a computer-monitoring system in the courthouse red-flagged his terminal, a law enforcement source said.

It was unclear when the smut was first noticed on the judge's computer. He was on paternity leave at the time of his resignation, and sources said Gibbons was not arrested.

While working in the Manhattan district attorney's office, Gibbons was well-known as a whip-smart lawyer in street crimes - prosecuting rapists, robbers and murderers.

The Manhattan courthouse was abuzz Thursday with rumblings about Gibbons

Gibbons presided over several high profile cases, including some early court appearance by meat cleaver killer David Tarloff.

He also made headlines last year after releasing a schizophrenic drifter without bail after a misdemeanor arrest.

Seven weeks later, the deranged man was arrested for threatening to blow up LaGuardia Airport.

Authorities searched Friday for clues in the killing of three men who were shot in a West Hollywood apartment.

The victims, including two brothers, were killed shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, and their killer or killers got away without anyone seeing them, sheriff's Detective Bill Marsh said.

Marsh said the men likely knew whoever killed them. There was no sign of a struggle, and the door had not been forced open.

All three victims were members of the Iranian Jewish community and moved to the U.S. as young children, said Pooya Dayanim, president of the Iranian Jewish Public Affairs Committee.

"These are three guys who happen to be Persian Jews who happen to have been murdered," Marsh said.
The victims were not wealthy, and family members told him they had no criminal pasts, Dayanim said.
"The only thing that sticks out is there was nothing significant about them," he said.

Their meeting took place on April 8, at a time when the Vatican was under fire for allegedly covering up similar abuse cases by priests in other countries and shocking abuse claims dominated the news in several European states.

A New Jersey man convicted just last month of driving with a suspended license was arrested for the same thing Thursday after a Putnam deputy allegedly saw him drive off in a car that he had parked near the Carmel Town Court.

Deputy Fred Mark arrested John J. McDonnell, 32, of 86 Cherry St., Lakewood, N.J., Thursday night, minutes after McDonnell had left the Town Court after pleading guilty to failing to report an address change to the Sex Offender Registry, Sheriff Donald B. Smith said today.

Mark stopped McDonnell on Route 52 in Carmel in February 2008 because his car had expired inspection and registration stickers. As a result of the stop, Mark additionally charged McDonnell with driving while intoxicated and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanors. Police also determined that McDonnell, who was classified as a level 2 sex offender, had failed to notify local authorities after moving from Carmel to New Jersey.

McDonnell was convicted in 1998 of felony sexual abuse of a 6-year-old boy in Mamaroneck, according to the sheriff.

In July, McDonnell entered guilty pleas to the DWI and license charges. He returned to Carmel Town Court on Thursday for a scheduled trial on the sex-offense charge but entered a guilty plea instead.

Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis released him pending sentencing but advised him to stay out of trouble.

Instead, as McDonnell was leaving the court, Mark, who was present in court, allegedly watched him walk from Croton Falls Road toward Route 6. Mark knew that McDonnell's license was still suspended and doubted he was going to walk home to New Jersey, Smith said.

Mark saw McDonnell got into a white car with New Jersey plates that he had parked at a nearby synagogue, the sheriff said. The deputy then pulled the car over as it drove by him on Route 6.

McDonnell was brought back to court and arraigned before Jacobellis on a charge of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor. The judge sent him to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

the famous story of r yakov learning loudly during r gedalias shiur is something that needs context, etc.
    kol tuv

You can forget about it. It's obviously too emotional and difficult for UOJ to relate the WHOLE story.

    UOJ,

I'm sorry that i pushed you all of these years. I didn't realize how difficult this was for you. Please mochel me.

    From the MalachHamovies !

One of the arguments that the RCC used against Rabbi Yehuda Bukspan was that he certified as kosher businesses operating on the Sabbath. This is perfectly legal by Jewish law, and the RCC today supervises businesses open on the Sabbath and all Jewish holidays such as the Magnolia Bakery (owned by a Jew, his wife is a shiksa), located in the heart of the Jewish community on Third Street and Orlando Ave.

    Rabbi Rabbs emails:

You wrote: “This is perfectly legal by Jewish law”.

Says who? It’s not that simple. Real Food Daily is a real problem because they cook on Shabbos, and since no Jew can be part of the cooking, we must assume that the food is all bishul akum, and thus, treif. I don’t see any way around that. Some of the those foods are gourmet level and certainly fitting to sit on a king’s table.

Whereas, Magnolia Bakery is merely preparing baked goods, so by not having a Jew turn on the ovens, it is only NOT pas Yisroel, and I’m sure the RCC makes note of that on the certification. The only problem there I see is that it is owned by a Jew, but I’m thinking maybe he enters a shituf “partnership” by selling his portion of the business for Shabbos.

I may be wrong about Magnolia Bakery. It very well may be problematic as well. I have never been there and have no idea what’s going on there. I am just giving RCC the benefit of the doubt, whereas, I don’t see any wiggle room for RFD.

JOHN EMAILS: 15 years ago when Noahs Bagels was under Bukspan the RCC made a big deal about how you could not eat there because they were open on shabbos.

When they took over noahs, they were still open on shabbos.

This news about magnolia bakery is old news RCC has had their restaurants open on shabbos for over 15 years.

Nobel-laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz has accused the Obama administration of underestimating the dangers weighing on the economy.

Right now, many homeowners owe the bank more than their homes are worth, prompting some to abandon properties, adding inventory to a market choked with vacant addresses. An Obama administration program aimed at slowing foreclosures has prolonged trouble, say economists, by failing to make transparent the extent of losses yet to be confronted by the financial system.

“The big question is, who’s going to swallow the losses,” says Mr. Stiglitz. “It should be the banks, but they don’t want to. We’re likely to be in paralysis for years if they prevail.”

Hikind you bum! Don't you know I am the most qualified person to conduct surveys?

I would also skew it by presenting it in a way that makes UOJ look irrelevant!

    http://www.vosizneias.com/63224/2010/08/30/new-york-brooklyn-store-owners-say-bad-economy-affecting-busienss/

New York - In an effort to gauge the impact of the recession on small businesses throughout his district, Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) conducted an informal, door-to-door survey of close to 100 stores in Flatbush and 142 businesses in Borough Park over a two-month period.
A sampling of store owners answered the following four questions:
    1. How has your business been performing this year relative to previous years?
    2. What obstacles do you feel are in the way of your business’ expansion?
    3. Are there any particular local laws or policies you feel negatively affect your business?
    4. What solutions do you feel could be implemented to help your business thrive?
The findings revealed that virtually every small business surveyed, from restaurants to clothing stores, and even funeral homes have experienced a decline in business since the recession began in late 2008. Some business owners even indicated that business was worse this year compared to last year.

Did I mention that Hikind is one of those modern Orthodox losers who never bothered to move out of Flatbush? No wonder he started keeping tabs on molesters.

An Australian newspaper has pictures of the diners including a bunch of Chassidishe fressers. It's amazing how people will drop their principals when it comes to food.

    http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2010/s2996858.htm

The OU's Dokter Rabbiner Ari Zivotofsky tells the paper in an interview that he hopes to "re-establish" the mesorah by having 250 fressers eat all this food in the same place.

A cleaner who worked in a synagogue was indicted by the Jerusalem District Court on Friday on charges of sexual abusing at the place of worship minors between the ages of eight and thirteen. The suspect has also been charged with sodomy and attempted sodomy.

The accused, 45-year-old Gil Dvash, allegedly offered the boys money to help him clean the synagogue and would then engage them with sexual behavior. During the police investigation, Dvash admitted to officers that he committed some of the acts alleged to have taken place between the years 2006 and 2008.

The acts all occurred at a synagogue in the capital's Bayit Vegan neighborhood where the suspect worked. A police representative at the suspect's remand hearing alleged that the congregation's rabbis were aware of the man's conduct but had failed to inform police.
