Geert Wilders From Wikipedia, the free Parliamentary leader [Abbreviated]
Geert Wilders (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣeːrt ˈwɪldərs]; born 6 September 1963) is a Dutch[1] politician and leader of the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid – PVV), the third-largest political party in the Netherlands.[2][3] He is the Parliamentary group leader of his party in the Dutch House of Representatives. In the formation in 2010 of the current Rutte cabinet, a minority cabinet of VVD and CDA, he actively participated in the negotiations, resulting in a "toleration agreement" (gedoogakkoord) between the PVV and these parties. Wilders is best known for his criticism of Islam, summing up his views by saying, "I don't hate Muslims, I hate Islam".[4]
Born in Venlo, he was raised a Roman Catholic. Wilders left the church at his coming of age. His travels to Israel as a young adult, as well as to neighbouring Arab countries, helped form his political views. He worked as a speechwriter for the conservative-liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie – VVD), and later served as parliamentary assistant to party leader Frits Bolkestein from 1990 to 1998. He was elected to the Utrecht city council in 1996, and later to the House of Representatives. Citing irreconcilable differences over the party's position on the accession of Turkey to the European Union, he left the VVD in 2004 to form his own party, the Party for Freedom.
Wilders has campaigned to stop what he views as the "Islamisation of the Netherlands". He compares the Quran with Mein Kampf and has campaigned to have the book banned in the Netherlands.[5][6][7] He advocates ending immigration from Muslim countries,[5][8] and supports banning the construction of new mosques.[9] He was a speaker at the Facing Jihad Conference held in Jerusalem in 2008, which discussed the dangers of jihad, and has called for a hard line against what he called the "street terror" exerted by minorities in Dutch cities.[10] His controversial 2008 film about his views on Islam, Fitna, received international attention. He has been described as populist,[11][12][13] labelled far right,[14][15] and defended by one British newspaper opinion columnist as a mainstream politician with legitimate concerns.[11] Wilders views himself as a right-wing liberal, and has refused to align himself with other European far-right leaders such as Jean-Marie Le Pen and Jörg Haider.[16]
Wilders' goal after he graduated from secondary school was to see the world. Because he did not have enough money to travel to Australia, his preferred destination, he went to Israel instead.[26] For several years he volunteered in a moshav and worked for several firms, becoming in his own words "a true friend of Israel".[27] With the money he saved, he travelled to the neighbouring Arab countries, and was moved by the lack of democracy in the region. When he returned to the Netherlands, he retained Israeli ideas about counter-terrorism and a "special feeling of solidarity" for the country.[28]
On 11 September 2010, 2,000 people gathered close by the site of a planned Muslim community center near the site of the World Trade Center attacks, on 11 September 2001, where they were addressed by Wilders who flew from The Netherlands to urge the crowd: "This is where we have draw the line. We must never give a free hand to those who want to subjugate us," Wilders added. "Draw this line so that New York... will never become New Mecca."[68]
Wilders strongly opposes the Dutch political system in general. He believes that there is a ruling elite of parliamentarians who only care about their own personal careers and disregard the will of the people. He also blames the Dutch system of multi-party coalition governments for a lack of clear and effective policies.[30] In his view, Dutch society advocates rule by consensus and cultural relativism, while he believes that this should change so as to "not tolerate the intolerant".[83]
On foreign relations, Wilders has largely supported Israel and has criticized countries he perceives as enemies of Israel.[28] Furthermore, he has made some proposals in the Dutch Parliament inspired by Israeli policies. For example, he supports implementing Israel's administrative detention in the Netherlands, a practice heavily criticized by human rights groups, which he calls "common sense".[83]
Wilders published the version of his political manifesto called Klare Wijn ("Clear Wine") in March 2006. The program proposed ten key points to be implemented:
Considerable reduction of taxes and state regulations.
Replacement of the present Article 1 of the Dutch constitution, guaranteeing equality under the law, by a clause stating the cultural dominance of the Christian, Jewish and humanist traditions.
Reduction of the influence of the European Union, which may no longer be expanded with new member states, especially Turkey; the European Parliament will be abolished. Dutch financial contributions to the European Union should be reduced by billions of euros.
A five year moratorium on the immigration of non-Western foreigners who intend to stay in the Netherlands. Foreign residents will no longer have the right to vote in municipal elections.
A five-year moratorium on the founding of new mosques and Islamic schools; a permanent ban on preaching in any language other than Dutch. Foreign imams will not be allowed to preach. Radical mosques will be closed and radical Muslims will be expelled.
Restoration of educational standards, with an emphasis on the educational value of the family.
Introduction of minimum penalties, and higher maximum penalties; introduction of administrative detention for terrorist suspects. Street terrorism will be punished by boot camps and denaturalisation and deportation of immigrant offenders.
Restoration of respect and better rewards for teachers, policemen, health care workers and military personnel.
Wilders is best known for his criticism of Islam, summing up his views by saying, "I don't hate Muslims, I hate Islam".[4] Although identifying Islamic extremists as 5–15% of Muslims,[83] he argues that "there is no such thing as 'moderate Islam'" and that the "Koran also states that Muslims who believe in only part of the Koran are in fact apostates".[62] He suggests that Muslims should "tear out half of the Koran if they wished to stay in the Netherlands" because it contains "terrible things" and that Muhammad would "... in these days be hunted down as a terrorist".[87]
On 8 August 2007, Wilders opined in an open letter[88] to the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant that the Koran, which he called a "fascist book", should be outlawed in the Netherlands, like Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf.[89] He has stated that "The book incites hatred and killing and therefore has no place in our legal order".[90] He has also referred to Mohammed as "the devil".[27] In Sept 2009 Wilders proposed to put a tax on Hijab wearing by Muslim women. He suggested women could purchase a license at a cost of €1000 and that the money raised could be used in projects beneficial to women's emancipation.[91][92]
He believes that all Muslim immigration to the Netherlands should be halted and all settled immigrants should be paid to leave.[4] Referring to the increased population of Muslims in the Netherlands, he has said:
Take a walk down the street and see where this is going. You no longer feel like you are living in your own country. There is a battle going on and we have to defend ourselves. Before you know it there will be more mosques than churches![93]
In a speech before the Dutch Parliament, he stated:
Islam is the Trojan Horse in Europe. If we do not stop Islamification now, Eurabia and Netherabia will just be a matter of time. One century ago, there were approximately 50 Muslims in the Netherlands. Today, there are about 1 million Muslims in this country. Where will it end? We are heading for the end of European and Dutch civilisation as we know it. Where is our Prime Minister in all this?
In reply to my questions in the House he said, without batting an eyelid, that there is no question of our country being Islamified. Now, this reply constituted a historical error as soon as it was uttered. Very many Dutch citizens, Madam Speaker, experience the presence of Islam around them. And I can report that they have had enough of burkas, headscarves, the ritual slaughter of animals, so‑called honour revenge, blaring minarets, female circumcision, hymen restoration operations, abuse of homosexuals, Turkish and Arabic on the buses and trains as well as on town hall leaflets, halal meat at grocery shops and department stores, Sharia exams, the Finance Minister's Sharia mortgages, and the enormous overrepresentation of Muslims in the area of crime, including Moroccan street terrorists.[62]
Nonetheless, Wilders has traveled widely in the Arab world and Der Spiegel has stated that Wilders will "wax poetic" over those "magnificent countries". Wilders has also said that "It's a real shame that these places are so chaotic."[26]
Wilders argues that Islam is not a religion, but rather a totalitarian political ideology such as communism and fascism.[94]
Wilders and Israel
Wilders lived in Israel for two years during his youth and has visited the country 40 times in the last 25 years.[95]
Wilders stated about Israel: "I have visited many interesting countries in the Middle East – from Syria to Egypt, from Tunisia to Turkey, from Cyprus to Iran – but nowhere did I have the special feeling of solidarity that I always get when I land at Ben Gurion International Airport."[28] Dutch public TV channel Nederland 2's daily news programme Netwerk reported that numerous American supporters of Israel financially supported Wilders' Party for Freedom (PVV) and openly approved of his message towards Islam and Islamic terrorism.[96] Wilders told an audience during the report that "We [in the West] are all Israel".[96] He has also said "Israel is the West's first line of defence" against what he perceives to be a threat posed by Islam.[97]
Following the Dutch general election, 2010, in which the PVV were the third biggest party, Wilders said Jordan should be renamed Palestine.[98] The Jordanian government responded saying Wilders' speech was reminiscent of the Israeli right wing. His speech said "Jordan is Palestine. Changing its name to Palestine will end the conflict in the Middle East and provide the Palestinians with an alternate homeland." He also said Israel deserves a special status in the Dutch government because it was fighting for "Jerusalem" in its name.
"If Jerusalem falls into the hands of the Muslims, Athens and Rome will be next. Thus, Jerusalem is the main front protecting the West. It is not a conflict over territory but rather an ideological battle, between the mentality of the liberated West and the ideology of Islamic barbarism. There has been an independent Palestinian state since 1946, and it is the kingdom of Jordan."
He called on the Dutch government to refer to Jordan as Palestine and move its embassy to Jerusalem.[99]
Fitna is a 2008 short film written and commissioned by Wilders that explores Koranic-inspired motivations for terrorism, Islamic universalism, and Islam in the Netherlands. Its title comes from the Arabic word fitna, which describes "disagreement and division among people" or a "test of faith in times of trial".[100]
It is the subject of an international controversy and debate on free speech.[101] Despite the legal troubles surrounding the film, Wilders insists that before he released it, he consulted numerous lawyers in the field, who found nothing worth prosecution. Jordan has summoned Wilders to court, with the film deemed to "incite hatred".[102] Militant Sunni Islamist group Al-Qaeda issued a call to murder Wilders after its release.[15]
In January 2010, Wilders was invited again to show his anti-Quran movie Fitna in the British House of Lords by Lord Pearson UK Independence Party (UKIP), and Baroness Cox cross-bencher. Wilders accepted the invitation and was present for a presentation of the movie in the House of Lords on 5 March. In his speech he quoted ominous words from Winston Churchill's book The River War from 1899:
"Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. No stronger retrograde force exists in the World. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step ... the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome."[125][126][127][128]
At the ensuing press conferences, he called the prophet Muhammad a "barbarian, a mass murderer, and a pedophile" and referring to Islam as a "fascist ideology" which was "violent, dangerous, and retarded". Wilders also reportedly called Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan a "total freak".[129] Dutch Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende called these comments "irresponsible",[130] and Maxime Verhagen, Dutch caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, publicly condemned Wilders's remarks and behaviour:
"He incites discord among people in a distasteful manner. And in the meantime he damages the interests of the Dutch population and the reputation of the Netherlands in the world."[131][132][133]
On 21 January 2009, a three-judge court ordered prosecutors to try him.[161][162]
The Middle East Forum has established a Legal Defence Fund for Wilders's defence.[163][164] The New York Times ran an op-ed criticizing his views and arguing that "for a man who calls for a ban on the Koran to act as the champion of free speech is a bit rich", concluding, however that the lawsuit against Wilders might not be "a good thing for democracy", because it made him "look more important than he should be."[60]
A survey by Angus Reid Global Monitor has found that public opinion is deeply split on the prosecution, with 50% supporting Wilders and 43% opposed.[160] However, public support for the Party for Freedom has greatly increased since Wilders' legal troubles began, with the Party for Freedom virtually tied with the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy to be the third most popular party.[47][165] According to Radio Netherlands, "Dutch politicians themselves seem to be keeping quiet on the issue; they are probably worried that media attention will only serve to make the controversial politician more popular".[43]
In late October 2010, the Dutch court approved a request from Geert Wilders to have new judges appointed forcing the court to retry the case.[166] On 7 February 2011, Wilders returned to the court room in order that his legal team can present evidence from Islamic experts which the court rejected in 2010, including Mohammed Bouyeri, who murdered film-maker Theo van Gogh, and Dutch academic Hans Jansen.[167]
On 23 June 2011, Wilders was acquitted of all charges. A Dutch court noted that his speech was legitimate political debate, but on the edge.[168] Because both the public prosecutor and the defense requested complete acquittal, the verdict will most likely not be appealed.[169][170]

ReplyDelete"Chief rabbi disputes lawsuit in fiery NY attack
Jun 27, 2011
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - The chief rabbi in a Hasidic village north of New York City says a lawsuit filed against him after a resident was burned in a fiery attack is without merit.
A resident of New Square who was badly burned in May had alleged Grand Rebbe David Twersky directed the attack. Plaintiff Aron Rottenberg claimed Twersky targeted him because he had begun praying at a synagogue other than the principal one in the insular village of 7,000 residents.
On Monday, Twersky's attorney Franklyn Snitow issued a statement saying the lawsuit has no legal or factual basis. The attorney says Twersky condemns violence.
Eighteen-year-old village resident Shaul Spitzer has been indicted on charges of attempted murder, attempted arson and assault in the attack. He has pleaded not guilty.
Spitzer's lawyer says Twersky wasn't involved in the attack on Rottenberg."

Monsey Bet Din: Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Schlesinger Is An Accomplice To All Of Rabbi Leib Tropper's Sins And Adulteries, Source Says
Rabbi Schlesinger is allegedly receiving money from Rabbi Leib Tropper through Tropper's nonprofits. In return, Schlesinger is allegedly acting as Tropper's point man, allegedly threatening rabbis opposed to Tropper.
A Monsey Insider writes:
The Beis Din in Monsey met Sunday morning for two hours about the Tropper scandal, and one of the declarations that they made was that "[Rabbi Yisroel Dovid] Schlesinger is an accomplice to all of Tropper's sins AND adulteries."
Rabbi Schlesinger is trying to persuade rabbis not to sign against Tropper. He is desperate to make sure that Tropper returns to power.
He is currently twisting the arms of the rabbis with threats and promises. He told Rabbi Breslauer, who is elderly and is recovering from a stroke that if he "signs against Leib Tropper, that he will not live out the rest of the year".
He has spoken to people who support the yeshivas of Rabbi Moshe Green, Rabbi Chaim Flohr, and Rabbi Kokis, who are some of the signatories and persuaded them to stop giving funds.
The public in Monsey are shocked at how far Rabbi Schlesinger is going in order to shield Tropper and to reinstate him in his full capacity as head of the yeshiva and even of the EJF.
Rabbi Kokis, of Ohr Semeach, has been quoted saying that Rabbi Schlesinger has been "blinded into a senseless mission to safeguard Tropper", and is bringing all kinds of erroneous claims that the rabbis did not keep the agreement with Tropper by leaking the documents onto the internet, and therefore, he claims, Tropper be given back all of his powers within the Jewish community, does not have to leave Monsey and may associate with all past, current and future students of the yeshiva.
Rabbi Schlesinger has consistently ignored claims that Tropper abused his power for his sexual gains with both female and male students, used his political pull to destroy the good names of his enemies, and embezzle money from various institutions, public and private.
The fact that Rabbi Schlesinger has gone to these extremes to cover up for Leib Tropper, with full knowledge of his crimes should be examined. In my research, I have found evidence that Rabbi Schlesinger is personally accepting money from Leib Tropper through his organizations. Current and former staff members of the Kol Yaakov yeshiva and Horizons have reported seeing copies of checks signed by Leib Tropper made out to Rabbi Schlesinger's synagogue."

ReplyDelete"Gaddafi becomes world's most wanted as International Criminal Court issues crimes against humanity arrest warrant
By Daily Mail Reporter
28th June 2011
An international arrest warrant was issued against Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi yesterday as rebel fighters battled to within 50 miles of his Tripoli stronghold.
The International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, accused Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam and his intelligence chief, Abdullah al-Sanoussi, of crimes against humanity.
They are said to have orchestrated the killing, injury, arrest and imprisonment of hundreds of civilians during the first 12 days of the uprising against Gaddafi’s 41-year rule.
[Photos: Wanted: Muammar Gaddafi (R) and his son Saif al-Islam are wanted by the Hague for the murder and torture of their own citizens in Libya]
The warrants turn the three men into internationally wanted suspects, potentially complicating efforts to mediate an end to more than four months of intense fighting in the North African nation.
Anti-Gaddafi forces said yesterday they had launched a new push towards Tripoli and made their biggest breakthrough in weeks in the Western Mountains region southwest of the Libyan capital to reach the strategic town of Bir al-Ghanam, where they are now fighting pro-Gaddafi forces for control.
With world leaders stepping up calls for Gaddafi to end his four-decade rule, Nato war planes again pounded targets in Tripoli, including the leader’s compound.
Libyan officials said an airstrike fired two missiles targeting Gaddafi's personal bus inside his Bab al-Aziziya compound.
The bus was burned but no one was killed or injured, they said. Gaddafi is not believed to be staying at the compound.
Hailing the issue of the arrest warrant, Foreign Secretary William Hague said it showed he had 'lost all legitimacy'.
He insisted the move should act as a warning to Gaddafi's circle that they would be held to account for crimes against civilians.
'These individuals are accused of crimes against humanity and should be held to account before judges in a criminal court,' Mr Hague said...."

ReplyDelete"China eyes Canada oil, US's energy nest egg
By ROB GILLIES, Associated Press – Sun Jun 26 2011
CALGARY, Alberta – In the northern reaches of Alberta lies a vast reserve of oil that the U.S. views as a pillar of its future energy needs.
China, with a growing appetite for oil that may one day surpass that of the U.S., is ready to spend the dollars for a big piece of it.
The oil sands of this Canadian province are so big that they will be able to serve both of the world's largest economies as production expands in the coming years. But that will mean building at least two pipelines, one south to the Texas Gulf Coast and another west toward the Pacific, and that in turn means fresh environmental battles on top of those already raging over the costly and energy-intensive method of extracting oil from sand.
...Overall, Alberta has more oil than Russia or Iran. Only Saudi Arabia and Venezuela have more....
Sinopec, a Chinese state-controlled oil company, has a stake in a $5.5 billion plan drawn up by the Alberta-based Enbridge company to build the Northern Gateway Pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific coast province of British Columbia. Alberta Finance Minister Lloyd Snelgrove met this month with Sinopec and CNOOC, China's other big oil company, and China's largest banks.
"They are sitting there saying if you need money, we've got money; if you need expertise, we've got that; whatever you need we've got," Snelgrove said...
Zhang Junsai, China's ambassador to Canada, said his country is willing to invest heavily in Canada. He told The Associated Press that the fact that China's $300 billion sovereign wealth fund, China Investment Corp., chose Toronto as the venue for its first overseas office is a "very good sign." The fund invested $800 million in Calgary-based Penn West Energy last year and $1.5 billion in Canadian mining company Teck Resources in 2009.
Apart having a stake in the $5.5 billion in the Northern Gateway pipeline plan, Sinopec paid $4.6 billion for a nine percent stake in Syncrude, Canada's largest oil sands project. And in 2009 PetroChina, Asia's largest oil and gas company, bought a $1.7 billion stake in Athabasca Oil Sands Corp.
...Eddie Goldenberg, chief of staff to former Prime Minister Jean Chretien, said in an interview that Canada should care less if some American officials are leery about Canada selling oil to China.
"We're not the 51st state. It's not the business of the United States to decide where Canada sells its resources," he said."

ReplyDeleteI for one am an unabashed friend and supporter of all that UOJ does and continues to do.
I also am an unashamed supporter of the rabbi . He truly is from a different era in how he acts and behaves.
While i believe he has made mistakes by not taking a harsh stand against breslauer and others and not enforcing the tropper leaving monsey , where is all the criticism against the other rabbis for not doing the same.
I believe he is a true ohev yisroel and looks to find good. Unfortunately he needs to realize that there are bad people who no matter what you cant make the satins of their crimes go away.
I truly believe if UOJ would spend ten min with him you too would feel the same.

ReplyDeleteHAS THE AGUDAH LEADERSHIP SOLD OUT OUR CHILDREN BY MAKING A DEAL WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH TO KILL THE "CHILD VICTIMS ACT" TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND NOT FIGHTING THE GAY MARRIAGE BILL
Archbishop Dolan & Chaim Dovid Zwiebel
Eliminating the statute of limitations for sexual abuse has cost the Catholic Church in a few states especially California and Delaware over a billion dollars. It was killed last year by Albany. Was there a behind the scenes warning to the church and other religious leaders that if they objected strongly on gay marriage the bill to eliminate the statute of limitations would pass? AGUDATH LEADERSHIP AND ARCHBISHOP DOLAN"S lack of anger yesterday demands more investigation. Or was it a profoundly changing power dynamic, where Wall Street donors and gay-rights advocates demonstrated more might and muscle than a Roman Catholic hierarchy and an ineffective opposition. PASSAGE OF A SPONSORED BILL THE "CHILD VICTIMS ACT" BY ASSEMBLYWOMAN MARGARET MARKEY WOULD COST THE CHURCHES AND YESHIVAS OVER 2 BILLION DOLLARS BY CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATES.THE PASSAGE OF THIS BILL WOULD OPEN A WINDOW UPON WHERE VICTIMS CAN SUE THEIR PERPETRATORS AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS, YESHIVAS FOR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE PAST. THIS BILL IS SUPPORTED BY THE(RCA)THE RABBINICAL COUNCIL OF AMERICA, (OU) ORTHODOX CONGREGATIONS, THE RABBINICAL ALLIANCE OF AMERICA AND MAJOR JEWISH AND RELIGIOUS LEADERS. WHY IS THE CHURCH AND AGUDATH ISRAEL OF AMERICA MORE CONCERNED ABOUT PROTECTING THEIR ASSETS THEN PROTECTING OUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN.
WE HOPE AND PRAY THAT THIS HISTORIC LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN BE PASSED IN ALBANY AND SIGNED INTO LAW BY OUR GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO.

Federal judge revokes Solomon Dwek's bail after Baltimore arrest
ReplyDeleteTerrence T. McDonald • The Jersey Journal
A federal judge this afternoon revoked the bail of Solomon Dwek, remanding him to custody in connection to his Baltimore arrest two weeks ago on charges that he kept a rental car out for weeks after he was supposed to return it.
Prosecutors had suggested Dwek be committed to house arrest, but Judge Jose L. Lineras said Dwek is a “danger to the community” who needs to be behind bars.
Dwek is “a consummate defrauder and an extremely cunning liar,” Lineras said today after revoking Dwek’s bail. “He has defrauded by his own admission many of the people he came in contact with.”
During Dwek’s bail hearing this afternoon, FBI Special Agent Sean McCarhty testified that he discovered there was a warrant out for Dwek’s arrest earlier this month when he was reviewing the criminal backgrounds of potential witnesses in the corruption trial of former Secaucus mayor Dennis Elwell.
When McCarthy asked Dwek about the report, Dwek lied, saying he hadn’t rented the car, according to the FBI agent. Dwek also submitted a false affidavit to the Hertz Corporation regarding the rental car, the agent said
It's very troubling that in a short time we had taken from us Rav Koppelman, R' Michel Yuda Lefkowitz & R' Chaim Stein, zichroinam livrocho.

It has happened before that when a group of gedolim were niftar in a very short time that they were called up before beis din shel maylah was dan on something major.
Rav Koppelman was there when his rebbe muvhok R' Shimon Shkop dropped dead from a heart attack. Because everyone else had already fled from the advancing Nazis, the only other person around was Rav Shkop's granddaughter (who eventually married R' Zelig Epstein). The two of them had no access to tools and were forced to dig the kever with their bare hands.

R' Michel Yuda was a talmid muvhok of R' Shloime Heiman before learning by the Chazon Ish. He edited Chiddushei R' Shloime (just like Rav Koppelman edited Chiddushei R' Shimon Yuda Hakoihen).
ReplyDeleteIn 1892, R' Shlomo was born in Plach Minsk. His father was R' Michel Heiman. When he was 12 years old, he went to Kaminetz to learn by R' Boruch Ber, with whom he was very close. In 1918, he married the daughter of R' Yochanon Rudensky of Volozhin (shvogger of R' Simcha Zelig Riger, the dayan of Brisk).
After his marriage, R' Boruch Ber asked R' Shlomo to say shiur in Kaminetz yeshiva, Beis Yitzchok, which was wandering from Slobodka to Krementchug. It was at this time that R' Shlomo developed a reputation of being one of Lita's most outstanding lamdonim. During World War I, R' Shlomo was briefly drafted into the Russian army. He served on the front lines, yet still managed to chazer the gantz maseches Kesuvos in the trenches.
After WWI Reb Shlomo began to give shiur in Baranovitch, under R' Elchonon Wasserman. In 1927, at the request of R' Chaim Ozer Grodzensky of Vilna, R' Shlomo became the Rosh Yeshiva of Ramailles, a position he held until 1935.
In 1935, Reb Shlomo was invited by R' Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz to lead Torah Vodaas. With the approval of R' Chaim Ozer, R' Shlomo accepted, and therefore was spared the horrors of the Holocaust. R' Shlomo died at the young age of 52 in 1945.
It was in America that R' Shlomo faced Secularism which battled the Yeshivish culture. He remarked once that one whose own children do not pursue the path of Torah can compensate by teaching Torah to the children of others (http://www.ou.org/torah/ti/5763/bamidbar63.htm). Nonetheless during the years of R' Shlomo's tenure at Torah Vodaas, "the yeshivah 'entered a period of significant growth and expansion'" (http://www.jpi.org/holocaust/hlchp6a.htm).
He was succeeded in the Ramailles yeshiva by R' Yisroel Zev Gustman & in Torah Vodaas by R' Reuven Grozovsky.

I wasn't saying it's unnatural for old men to die. They say over in yeshivos there is an inyan however when a group of gedolim are niftar in close proximity. They cite a bunch of gedolim who died right before WWII and other times. There were no major events after the petira of R' Moishe & R' Yaakov so I suppose some of the dinei Torah in beis din shel maylah come out favorably. It does say in Chazal that tzaddikim are taken away when the dor is not zoyche.

Solomon Dwek loses allowance following jail sentence for lying to FBI
Ted Sherman • The Star-Ledger
NEWARK — Having lost his freedom, federal informant Solomon Dwek is also about to lose his allowance.
Abruptly sent to jail Tuesday for lying to the FBI, Dwek was receiving a $12,500 monthly stipend from the federal bankruptcy trustee trying to sort out the remains of his failed real estate empire later found to be built upon massive fraud.
That allowance expires today, as does an agreement to pay Dwek’s expenses in connection with the bankruptcy case — including the cost of a $100-an-hour private security contingent. That agreement is unlikely to be renewed, those connected with the case say.
Dwek, 38, was using the money to support his wife and six children — including a son born just weeks ago. His family, shunned from their Orthodox Sephardic community in Deal, now lives in Baltimore.

Rabbi Dr. Becker was the mashgiach ruchni for 4 years at Darche Noam in Yerushalayim.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.machonyaakov.org/about/
He also taught at one point at Machon Yaakov. Rabbi Noach Orlowek who is the mashgiach ruchni in Rav Scheinberg's yeshiva, Torah Or, is currently giving some lectures at Machon Yaakov.
While I have received reliable allegations of misconduct by Dr. Becker, he has given me permission to speak to an extremely credible individual that could give me his side of the story.

Hi, DB:
ReplyDeleteOld timer here.
You probably know that Kolko now resides in Lakewood and has gone into business as a charter bus and tour broker. He arranges buses for Yeshivos,Camps, Weddings and any other transportation that frum Jews require.
I have a friend who is a Rebbe in one of the better known yeshivas. He has also been doing this for the past 20 years to supplement his income as a yeshiva rebbe. My friend is a chasidishe man who has 15 children and has quite a stellar reputaion here in Monsey as well as elsewhere. He embodies what "bayn odom l"chavero" should be and is active in every chesed organization such as Hatzoloh, Tomche Shabbos, Kupas Ezra, and Chaverim. He is very beloved by all and will go out of his way to help a fellow Jew whether or not he is frum.
In the past 20 years, my friend has been arranging buses for all the frum camps and has given them fair prices and excellent service. Two of his biggest accounts were Camp Agudah and Camp Bnos. They booked with him again this year like in all years past. However he received a call a week before the buses were scheduled to go out from the camp administrators saying that they had to cancel. When he asked why, he was told that they were ordered by the higher ups in Agudah to give the business to Rabbi Kolko who needs the parnassah since he is now unable to teach due to the false accusations against him. In the past week several other camps have cancelled buses with my friend and followed the lead of Agudah and Bnos. The other camp directors told him that they were contacted by "gedolim" whom they refused to identify and told to give Rabbi Kolko the parnassah and had no choice but to obey.
My friend said it is ironic that Kolko is rewarded for doing an "aveirah" and he who has spent his entire life doing nothing but mitzvos and chesed has to bear the punishment by losing the customers to Kolko.
I do not want to mention my friend's name or the yeshiva in which he teaches because he would be instantly recognized. He is a very humble man and does not want the publicity. He is also a very honest businessman and has never taken a dime from anyone that he did not earn and has never been on public assistance. He does not know that I am writing this to you but I felt a sense of outrage at the double standard that our so called Torah Leaders have chosen to live by.
i believe that every yeshiva needs to be called and told a list will be published of the yeshivas that support the molester
ReplyDeletenot the chosheva rabbi and teacher from monsey that spends day and night doing

ReplyDelete"He's entitled to make a living"
ReplyDeleteDo you have any idea how wealthy Kolko is from the sale of Manavu and other sources? He's not exactly a charity case.

I absolutely agree with you. These are gangsters of the worst order.
ReplyDeleteForcefeeding is what the French do to geese until their stomachs burst to give you foie gras pate.
ReplyDeleteIs this what the Torah warns of Vayishma Yeshurun vayivat? That the Agudah will force feed Kolko?

ReplyDeleteThe treasurer of a Long Island synagogue was busted yesterday for breaking the Eighth Commandment – stealing $600,000 from the congregation and disappearing when he was finally confronted about the cash, officials said
It wasn’t until checks from the Temple Aish Kodesh in Woodmere started bouncing that synagogue leaders cornered Isaac Zucker last week and asked him about the missing money.
Zucker, 47, who had been the temple’s money manager since 2006, tearfully promised to pay back every cent, but he vanished days later without even a word to his wife.
Cops caught up with the suspected embezzler at a Holiday Inn near Long Island-MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, where they suspect that he might have been plotting an escape.
Nassau County Police Detective Lt. Kevin Smith said Zucker had been siphoning money from the synagogue’s bank account since 2008, transferring the funds into his law firm’s coffers.
"Until very recently bills got paid on time and no one was complaining," said Arziel Ganz, chairman of the synagogue. "So there was no reason to suspect that anything was going on."
Sources said Zucker did not use the money for anything extravagant. They said the money went to maintain the lifestyle he could not afford with what he earned from his failing law practice.
Zucker, a securities lawyer, was arraigned on a second-degree grand larceny charge and was being held on a $300,000 bond.
It was unclear how cops tracked Zucker to the airport hotel.
Cops said Zucker, a married father of three, left for work on Friday but never arrived. After his wife failed to reach him on his cell phone, she filed a missing persons report. Around the same time, a temple leader reported the missing money to the police, who traced the transfers between the synagogue and the law firm.
He provided the temple with false accounting statements to hide the thefts, a source said.
After it was reported on UOJ that Rabbi Rafi Butler funneled $200,000 to "Pickled" Herring's home address:

ReplyDeleteCalifornia: Santa Rosa Bishop Resigns By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
ReplyDeletePublished: June 30, 2011
Bishop Daniel Walsh, whose Santa Rosa diocese has been embroiled in priest sexual abuse cases, resigned Thursday after 11 years. A diocese spokeswoman said Bishop Walsh is “very tired” and has been seeking to hand over his responsibilities for about two years. He is a year short of the mandatory retirement age of 75.
I always knew that Neuhoff was an "oaf".
ReplyDeleteKolko also had all kinds of side jobs over the years that put some extra cash in his pocket. The Lake Compounce excursions, proctoring at YOB and maybe part time work at Silver Lake.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Isaac Zucker descends from the Isaac Zucker who was burning down buildings for insurance fraud starting in 1891 in Manhattan & Newark until the cops caught up with him. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Two of his accomplices named Blum & Schoenholz were also jailed. You can read about this in the period newspapers and court documents.

His wife wasn't paying suppliers to her dry goods store so when a constable showed up to collect a debt in 1897, she was arrested for assaulting him.
