PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN:STOP ABUSE

AN IMPORTANT VIDEO MESSAGE FROM RAV YITZCHOK BERKOWITZ SHLIT”A REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN OF KLAL YISROEL:https://youtu.be/wAI94moFI34

Together with the full public support of Rav Berkowitz, Rav Boruch Soloveitchik, and Rav Morgenstern, funds are being raised here for Jerusalem Eye, a grassroots effort to prevent incidents of assault on children in Jerusalem.

When the rabbanim started this effort in 2018 there were between 7-5 reported incidents of assault per month in the neighborhoods of Sanhedria. Since they installed cameras (cost of 750,000 ILS) they have seen a reduction in about 90% of the incidents, now only about 1 every three months. When abuse is caught on camera, they have evidence to catch the offender. With every incident caught on camera the attackers are dealt with accordingly.

The goal of this campaign is to cover all of Jerusalem with CCTV cameras to prevent assaults on children, and to catch offenders in action. As has been seen so far, the cameras serve as a major deterrent. In recent months, the community has not been able to afford to keep the cameras on. The plan is set to install cameras in the neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo - the cost would be a staggering 4 million shekels.

Our childrens’ safety and futures, however, is priceless. And so the rabbanim are turning to klal Yisroel for help.

As time shows again and again, the most powerful way to protect our children is by shining light on abuse, and dealing with problems head on rather than allowing them to fester in the shadows. Many children do not tell their parents what they have been through because of the stigma and shame of concealed abuse - This trauma has massive ripple effects on our communities, and on our future generations.

“For years, our neighborhood Sanhedria Murchevet was plagued with burglaries. Friday nights if someone was out you could be sure someone would break in to the apartment. Just a lot of loss of property, belongings. Aside from the financial loss, personal items that mean a lot to people. So we got together and set up a system of cameras, security cameras.

But in the process, we realized that there was something else going on. Perhaps Hashem had sent us the burglaries, for the sake of being able to discover. Throughout the week, all sorts of individuals from outside the neighborhood are driving in and did awful things to children. We had absolutely no awareness of anything like this going on.

Catching this on camera of course, meant that these people could be identified. People are in prison. The police appreciated it. But this is going on, on a constant basis.

For once, the Chesed Fund (apparently an alter-ego of the Lakewood Fressers) gets it right!

Here is a FB comment I posted in response to a Chesed Fund shnor posted on a FB page:

I write this response with tears in my eyes.

Just as the healthcare system of Israel is now being overstressed and overloaded by this WuFlu epidemic (and the healthcare systems of other countries even more so), my family finances are now overstressed from all of the increased supplications for tzedaka, on top of my wife now being out of action on account of her hospitalization.

Accordingly, at this moment in time we now need to be more selective and sparing in our tzedaka disbursements.

This is not the first solicitation I have received on behalf of the Ohayon family. Quite frankly, I find that too many of the funds appeals in general, and from the Chesed Fund in particular, are getting too abusive, and have so noted an example in a recent Times of Israel blogposting.

When I clicked your link, I saw the ad with Rabbi Kanievsky's endorsement. This tells me all I need to know. Kanievsky has said that a person who has internet access or smartphone is not valid as an eyd at a wedding. Kanievsky has said that a woman's tevilah is invalid if the balanit has internet access or a smartphone. [The irony is not lost that so many of these shnors are being done over the internet.].

So if I am not kosher, then neither is my money, and I would not wish to subject the Ohayon family to any further troubles by giving them my internet-tainted unkosher gelt.

Here are links to some of my TOI postings that address the Lakewood Vaad shnors (of which I have received a few dozen in the past week (many verbatim duplicates, triplicates, quadruplicates, etc.):

  2. How low have we sunk. Judaism produces frummies who cannot and do not want to discipline and control themselves. Then wise religious idiots come and start discussing how we shall protect vulnerable population from abuse! Reform the religion, give people "new Torah" – and the problem is solved automatically! But Jews keep clutching their old idols: "Listen to your Rebbe," "pray 3 times a day," "learn Torah with a learning partner," "dress according to the Chazon Ish instructions," and similar crap. I have been a shadchanit for many years. I see dozens of profiles daily. Do you know what Jews are looking for in their prospective mates TODAY, the only thing that really counts? MONEY! Do you know what that means? That they do not believe in Hashem! When any BELIEF is gone, any ABUSE is possible. We need a religious REFORM! Merry ניטל נאַכט‎!
