Remember the GIANT Bobov Wedding in Borough Park? Police Claimed it was Legal…. Dozens are Getting Sick – Covid
Major Covid-19 breakout of huge Bobov wedding last week and Hebrew media with recording from Bobov warning their masses about it – לאחר חתונה המונית: עשרות נדבקו בקורונה – כיכר השבת
The following is in Hebrew. Loosely it is a warning that those in attendance at the wedding last week in Borough Park should be aware that dozens are getting sick from Covid-19.
We wonder when Governor Cuomo is going to view these events as acts of insanity and not religious celebrations of marriages, Bar/Bat-Mitzvot, somber funerals. We wonder when the Supreme Court is going to view the reality of these events – that they are dangerous for those in attendance and those they come into contact with.
A Haredi man said a taxi driver in Tel Aviv called him a “disease spreader” & refused to give him a ride, as violations of lockdown in some parts of the Haredi community continue to stoke tensions.
ReplyDeleteYakir Lans described it to Ynet: “I order a taxi from the app Gett & see the taxi pass by me without stopping. So I thought he erred on Waze. I call & he said straightforward, ‘You're a Haredi disease-spreader, I can't take you,’” Lans said.
“I said, ‘Careful, you’re recorded.’ He said, ‘No problem, do what you want,’” Lans said.
“Personally, I felt very sad,” Lans said, adding he lived in Tel Aviv for 18 years. “I never ran into discrimination & suddenly this situation.”
“We want to connect & be together, then this happens & you don’t believe it’s happening. It’s so insulting & painful,” he said.
Lans said he contacted Gett & the company apologized, stated its commitment to equality & tolerance & said the incident was “taken care of immediately.”
Lans said he manages an org “Roots” that holds Jewish studies. Israel's weeks into its 3rd lockdown vs the virus, but infections remain high, with 1000s of new cases each day.
There are violations in all areas of the country, but there's repeated flagrant rule-breaking in some Haredi communities, including opening yeshivas, holiday events & weddings.
Infections in the Haredi community are disproportionately high, due to lockdown infractions, crowded living conditions & other factors.
Police enforcing regulations in Haredi areas meet violent resistance including riots & attacks on officers, especially in Bnei Brak. Haredim accuse police of excessive force.
Haredi noncompliance sparked public backlash & political infighting in the coalition. Haredi parties allied with Netanyahu oppose fine increases for violating lockdown, while Blue + White say fine hikes & other more stringent enforcement are necessary.
The political gridlock stalled govt votes on lengthening lockdown, set to expire overnight Sun-Mon but expected to be extended.
The Health Ministry said Fri 7,089 Israelis were diagnosed with the virus the previous day, bringing active cases to 71,042 & infections since the start of the pandemic to 633,991.
There are 1,200 patients in serious condition, including 327 ventilated. The death toll's at 4,671.
Infections remain high despite Israel’s successful vaccination campaign. Israel leads the world by far per capita in inoculations, with 25+% having received its 1st shot.
