When I was on the board of a Jewish day school, I was one of the de facto "Scholarship Committee" members for a while. We found out quite easily who was taking expensive vacations, if only from the other supplicants for financial aid. One parent presented us with a purported copy of his income tax return, which I immediately pronounced (correctly) as a fake. The parent begged me to not report him to the IRS (my former employer), when I had not even made any explicit threat to do so (I would not have reported him unless he really, really, REALLY did something very, very terrible).
