THIS IS NOT DAAS TORAH! THIS IS PURE CORRUPTION IN SUPPORT OF MORE CORRUPTION!

Another spot-on post by Steve:

"An open letter has been sent from Rabbi Perlow requesting pidyon shvuyim funds for Sholom Rubashkin. After "divining" from the Torah that he must "vigorously" oppose the Child Victims Act which would protect Jewish children from sexual molesters, he has now "divined" that it is important to further support and protect the criminal element amongst us. He has "divined" that we must support the supporters of Chillul Hashem. To borrow Boog's terminology, does it get sicker than this?

This coming Shabbos is called Shabbos Chazon, the Shabbos before Tisha B'Av. It is called that because we read the haftorah of "Chazon Yeshaya" the first chapter of that sefer, where the navi rebukes the leadership of the Jewish people. The navi exhorts the people to do justice and to strengthen the downtrodden. He tells the masses not to follow the corrupt ways of their leaders. For the leaders had become wayward companions of thieves, who love bribes and illegal payments while they refuse to do heed the cause of widows and orphans. The navi commands the people to "Asheru Chamotz", strengthen the victim. The gemara in Sanhedrin further explains "Asheru Chamotz V'Lo Chometz", strengthen the victim, not the perpetrator.(Rashi: Hanigzal V'lo Hagazlan). Rabbi Perlow and the Agudah have followed the example of the leaders at the time of Yeshaya. They have prioritized supporting the criminals while thwarting any type of legislation to help the victims. Do you think Avi Shafran's love letter to Bernie Madoff was just a minor case of brainlock? It had to be sanctioned by the same group of chavrei ganovim!

When you read these words of the haftorah this Shabbos, you will realize why we are still in mourning and why we still have Tisha B'Av. It's time to wake up and face the reality: SARAYICH SORERIM V'CHAVREI GANOVIM!

It's not too late to rise up and say,....

ENOUGH! THESE ARE NOT OUR LEADERS!

THIS IS NOT DAAS TORAH! THIS IS PURE CORRUPTION IN SUPPORT OF MORE CORRUPTION!

Let's rise up and support the victims of child sexual abuse by "vigorously" supporting the Markey bill.

Let's rise up and protect our children from these sexual predators by exposing them, one at a time.

Let's rise up and condemn all types of criminal behavior in our community.

Let's rise up and condemn the rioting and Chillul Hashem that is taking place in Yerushalayim, which is burning yet again.

Let's rise up and condemn the apologetics of Pinny Lipshitz of the Yated who is now heading Rubashkin's pidyon shvuyim fund. The navi Yeshaya is once again calling upon us to act.

Let us listen this time."

  2. THIS SHOULD BE THE RABBIS' RESPONSE TO MOLESTERS AND OTHER NOTRIOUS CRIMINALS. THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVING THEM BRACHOS AND SETTING UP PIDYON SHVUYIM FUNDS FOR THEM:

Jerusalem - Three weeks ago a bochur yeshiva without a drivers' license caused a dreadful car accident on the Ramot Road. Now another bochur was caught with the same irresponsible behavior. In preparation for his trial and out of fear that he might be sentenced to prison, the bochur decided to seek a blessing from Rav Chaim Kanievsky.

After VIN News verified that accuracy of the exchange, we are bringing the recording of the conversation between them as a service for the public:

Bochur: I have a trial in another week. They want to put me in prison. Would the rav please bless me so I'll be saved from it.

Rav Chaim: What is the trial about?

Bochur: They caught me driving without a license, after I crashed into a wall.

Rav Chaim: So you're mamash a murderer! Adaraba, let them put you in prison. Very good.

Bochur (shouts) What? Chalila, I didn't kill anyone. I didn't wound anyone either. I just had a small accident with a wall involving only myself.

Rav Chaim: But you drove without a license, right?

    Bochur: Yes.

Rav Chaim: Nu, so you're considered a real murderer. You could have caused an accident with people too.

Bochur: But I know how to drive well. Besides that, [being in prison] might ruin things for me with shidduchim and yeshiva.

Rav Chaim: There's no such things as "I know". Without a license, one doesn't know how to drive. Concerning shidduchim, whoever doesn't want you is right. It's dangerous.

Bochur: I'm mamash sorry. Just let the rav bless me that I be saved in the trial.

Rav Chaim: What do you mean, you're sorry? If you're given a car tomorrow you won't travel? For sure you'll travel. So the best thing is for you to sit in prison and learn not to be a murderer.

Bochur: Please, will the rav promise that I'll be saved if I'll be careful from now on?

Rav Chaim: I can't give a blessing. May Hashem help that they sentence you to what will really be good for you.

Rav Chaim's family says that it's rare that Rav Chaim speaks in such extreme language, but this is how he views a person who is caught breaking traffic rules or who drives without a license. Rav Chaim will refuse to bless him and doesn't hesitate to say that it involves no less than "murder."

  3. It seems to me the core issue going forward is not how many years Rubashkin will sit in jail , but whether the new owners of the Postville plant will abide by the more ethical guidelines in their employment practises and treatment of animals.Kosher meat should not be produced at the expense of migrant workers. The Agudah could win back the hearts and minds of many if they would support the efforts of Hechsher Tzedek and other MO and Conservative groups in demanding higher standards for kashrus. Now in this transition period is the best time to bring about real change and do things right. Part of teshuvah is to accept responsibility for correcting the errors of the past.

I realize in the context of this blog the last paragraph sounds hopelessly naive and dreaming of pie in the sky. It is. And that itself is a good part of the problem ...people have become so cynical they have lost hope that moral standards will improve.

Check out Pinny's hopeless drivel. He masterfully denies that a frum person can possibly abuse their child. And, then claims Rubashkin is being treated as badly as the mother in Israel. But, reminds everyone to send checks for Rubashkin to PINNY'S HOME ADDRESS.

The'd close down their little romper room, busted toy organization before they'd approve of something the Modern Orthodox or Conservatives do. So there's no hope of that. My cynicism is not even needed.

And yes, it's time to ignore these men once and for all. They truly are a clueless, bad bunch. There's no other way to understand them.

Camp counselor facing sex assault charges also taught at yeshiva

    By ZACH PATBERG
    TOMS RIVER BUREAU

A camp counselor who police say sexually assaulted a young boy is also a teacher at a private grade school, the yeshiva said Tuesday.

Officials at Yeshiva Orchos Chaim on Oberlin Avenue confirmed that Yosef Kolko taught there during the school season but referred further questions to an attorney, Karl Mohel, who said he would not "confirm or deny anything."

Kolko, 33, was released from jail Monday on $125,000 bail after being charged with aggravated sexual assault, authorities said. The assault occurred within the past year and the victim was under the age of 13, police said. No further details on the case were provided.

Officials at Yachad, the summer camp where Kolko was working, at the Bais Hatorah School on Swarthmore Avenue, did not respond to requests for comment.

No one answered the door at Kolko's house on Gefen Drive Tuesday. A woman answering the phone at Mohel's office said Kolko was to interview with the lawyer on Friday.

Kolko, according to sources and genealogical data, is the nephew of Yehuda Kolko, a Brooklyn rabbi accused of molesting three young students in an explosive case that rocked the Orthodox communities in New York and, in May 2006, was featured in a cover story in New York magazine. Kolko, 63, pleaded guilty last year to endangering the welfare of a child and was sentenced to three years of probation."

2 Lawyers Join 2 Rabbis Accused of Tampering

    New York Times - July 15, 1999

Two lawyers were charged yesterday in a widening witness-tampering case involving a Brooklyn man accused of raping his daughter.

The lawyers, George Meissner and Richard Finkel, pleaded not guilty to conspiring to intimidate the woman who accused her father of rape. Prosecutors say the lawyers were acting on behalf of a client, Rabbi Bernard Freilich. Rabbi Freilich is one of two rabbis previously charged with threatening to harm the woman, who is 22, if she testified against her father, a member of Borough Park's Orthodox Jewish community.

The father was charged last February with first-degree rape, incest and sexual abuse for attacks that prosecutors say occurred in 1996 and 1997. He was arrested again on April 22 on charges that he violated an order of protection by pounding on his daughter's door and warning her that it would be her last day unless she withdrew her accusations.

An indictment alleges that Mr. Meissner and Mr. Finkel arranged a meeting with the woman in May in which Mr. Meissner told her that if she did not drop her accusations, she ''would be punished for unrelated matters.''

Lawyers charged in probe of rabbis

    JTA - August 6, 1999

    http://www.jewishsf.com/bk990806/usreport.shtml

NEW YORK (JTA) -- Two lawyers were among those charged last month with conspiring to intimidate a witness in a widening incest-rape case involving two rabbis in Brooklyn.

George Meissner and Richard Finkel previously represented Rabbi Bernard Freilich, who is accused of attempting to prevent a woman from testifying that her father repeatedly raped her when she was a child. Freilich and Rabbi Pinchas Shor pleaded not guilty to separate charges last month.

Rabbi Is Acquitted In Death Threat Case

    New York Times - March 7, 2000

A prominent Hasidic rabbi in Brooklyn was acquitted of felony charges yesterday that he had made death threats against a young woman who had accused her father of raping her.

The rabbi, Bernard Freilich, 48, of Borough Park, was charged with witness intimidation and witness tampering last June after prosecutors presented evidence that the rabbi had gone to the woman's home in April and warned her that she would ''end up in the cemetery'' if she testified against her father.

During the jury trial in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn, the prosecutors tried to show that Rabbi Freilich had been close friends with the father of the young woman, who told the Brooklyn district attorney's office that she was raped in 1997. Rabbi Freilich's lawyer, Peter R. Schlam, contended that his client was not friends with the man and thus had no motivation to have threatened her.

Two lawyers, George S. Meissner and Richard Finkel, and three other men continue to face charges of witness tampering; they are suspected of trying to prod the woman's husband into dropping charges. Another rabbi, Pinchas Shor, is facing charges of having threatened the woman. The woman's father is awaiting trial.

    by Rebecca Segall

    Village Voice - March 15 - 21, 2000

In a dramatic response to Freilich's acquittal, about 2000 Boro Park residents attended a celebration in his honor on Saturday at the Satmar Hasidic shul. On Sunday, the head rabbis of each ultra-Orthodox sect in Boro Park met with Freilich, and in speech after speech referred to him and their community as having survived "persecution and prosecution."

"This is a man with 25 years of service in the public life of Boro Park," Rabbi Glanz told the Voice. "He was instrumental in creating Tomche Shabbos," an organization that feeds thousands of Hasidic families each week.

Yeshiva and Mesivta Torah Temimah is an educational institution that is an exponent of the Orthodox Jewish faith. Our educational philosophy and objectives are essentially functions of a value system that predates modern - and even ancient - history. The philosophical tenets of the school are rooted in the time-honored religio-moral values of Orthodox Judaism as they are refracted through the prism of the contemporary American democratic experience. We subscribe to the belief that scholarship, and indeed the learning process itself, is the sine qua non of our life's calling.

Our overall educational objectives focus primarily on developing the student both as an observant and believing practitioner of the Orthodox Jewish faith and as a budding scholar. Students are expected to be conversant with the classic works of Jewish scholarship, as well as an ethical and moral human being from the unique standpoint of the teachings of Jewish ethics and philosophy. In addition we seek to develop these students as educated individuals, providing them with the primary elements of classical and contemporary secular scholarship, including the sciences, mathematics, language arts and history. In brief, our objective is to develop a scholarly Orthodox Jew, who is at the same time a functioning and productive member of contemporary American democratic society, capable of facing the challenges of the 21st century and of benefiting from the promises of the American workplace and its economic environment.

These objectives are achieved through a combination of classical and contemporary curricula, ethical and moral standards, religious beliefs and practices, all with one goal in mind: empowering our students to function as Orthodox Jews in the American democratic and economic experience.

Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin faces trial in less than two months. Targeted for destruction by PETA and the very unions which have destroyed manufacturing in the country and sent millions of jobs overseas, he will be fighting for his life

Ever [sic] person is entitled to a presumption of innocence and the ability to have their day in court to absolve themselves of the charges being brought against them.

The Rubashkin family company ran an exemplary slaughterhouse which supplied Jews across the country with affordable kosher meat. Today, Shalom Mordechai is unable to afford adequate legal counsel which will be able to prove that he is being railroaded and unfairly scapegoated.

Top Hadera rabbi's son suspected in deliberate hit-and-run

By Tomer Zarchin and Fadi Eyadat, Haaretz

The Supreme Court will announce its decision Thursday morning in the case of the yeshiva student who deliberately hit Noga Zoraish, a woman of Ethiopian origin, with his car. Wednesday the student's name was released, Itamar Biton, the son of the Sephardi chief rabbi of Hadera, Rabbi Shimon Biton.

Jerusalem District Court Judge Moshe Drori decided last September not to convict Biton, and the Supreme Court heard the state's appeal of the acquittal last week.

"I read the verdict and read it again, and couldn't comprehend how someone like that wasn't convicted. It's inconceivable," Supreme Court Justice Edmond Levy said in reference to the decision. The case has provoked considerable interest, partly because of Drori's candidacy for a Supreme Court seat. For now, he is no longer a candidate due to public pressure in light of the decision.

Zoraish, a supermarket checkout clerk, lay down on the hood of Biton's car when he tried to leave the parking lot without paying the fee. He continued to drive, and Zoraish was thrown off his car. She sustained minor injuries. In Drori's explanation for his failure to convict, he said he did not want to harm the defendant's chances of being appointed a rabbinical court judge.

Rabbi Shimon Biton has served as the chief rabbi of Hadera for more than 30 years. The rabbi is considered Shas' most important figure in the city and is sometimes called the Rabbi Ovadia Yosef of Hadera. "Shas ministers who visit Hadera first come to see him," said one local politician; Emanuel Biton, another of the rabbi's sons, was elected to the city council in the last elections on the Shas slate.

The recent charge against Agriprocessors and the Rubashkin family ... left many wondering about the silence of the frum organizations.

(OU President) Mr. Savitsky responds. “There were many factors at play. While the fact that this family was singled out may have been strange, in all honesty, they did need more supervision. We were in a very delicate position as a major kashrus certification agency, and we also had a responsibility to ensure that there would not be a kosher meat shortage for the wider population.

So while some criticized our silence, we did what we had to do in view of the bigger picture.”

There happens to be a new store at Ave K & East 29th that sells stuff at a fraction of Spira's prices.

If you don't feel like getting ripped off or financing his fancy car, you can inquire about prices there.

  33. The Skipper, the following are excerpts from comments that were made by Gil on the XGH blog regarding the criticism on the blogs of RDC's comments on tax evasion and gezel akum. I guess Gil thinks it is also unfair to criticize all the Rabbis that are being arrested as I write this for financial crimes. After all -- it is just a meshugas they have, and Rabbis like RDC who say that we can ignore the halahcos in CM on these matters are ok with this type of behavior.

"I set it aside as, at most, a great man with an unhealthy idea -- a meshugas."

"I like both R. Dovid Cohen and R. Yisroel Belsky, and do not believe that the criticisms both have received on blogs are fair."

"I don't think the criticisms are fair because they do not look at the whole person."

I wonder if it’s that yekke drech zhou professor that tortures her class in Touro (sit up straight! No going to the bathroom! You staring at me? Is my nose? My hair?).

Or that emontionally disturbed british yekke that sometimes comes to shachris and goes off the wall if he hears people speak or if the tissue boxes aren’t aligned properly. (he also walks the streets of midwood and harasses store owners to pull down signs that have a woman on it. Also saw him harass two guys eating ice cream in their car on coney island avenue).

    Maybe TIDE stands for

THE AFRICAN-American professor from Harvard arrested at his own home for disorderly conduct:

Why did Professor Gates give police a hard time when they arrived to investigate reports of an attempted break-in at Gates' home? The professor should have been thankful that the police were there to investigate such a matter.

When asked for identification, what does Gates do? He gives the officers a hard time with the cliched "Why, because I'm a black man in America?"

That alone should send a red flag up that

they were dealing with a pompous person who thinks he's better than everyone else.
