On The Rabbi's Knee:
“Does it hurt?” the boy recalls the teacher saying, over and over. His voice was urgent but also oddly indifferent, as if he were asking about the weather. “Does it hurt?”
The boy was panicked now, desperate to open the car door and run into the school for help. But he was 12 years old, and the teacher was older and stronger, and, after all, he was a teacher.
All the boy wanted was to fit into his new world. The sooner this ended, he thought, the sooner he could forget it ever happened.

ReplyDeletePolice on Wednesday dispersed a Haredi wedding held at an unexpected location — the Arab village of Kafr Qasim, east of Tel Aviv.
The reason for the choice in locale was because the bride & groom wanted to avoid detection while holding a wedding that violated virus restrictions on mass gatherings, according to Channel 12.
An eyewitness quoted by the network said the revelers played Arabic music over the loudspeaker in an effort to blend into the surroundings.
The wedding was reportedly held at a venue owned by a Kfar Qasim resident and video of the event showed dozens of guests not wearing masks or practicing social distancing.
The police announced they broke up the wedding and fined the owner of the venue NIS 5,000 ($1,480) after accidentally coming across the gathering while in the area on an unrelated operation.
“The Israel Police calls on all business owners & the public to obey the Health Ministry guidelines in order to prevent the spread of the virus,” the statement said.
The wedding is reportedly not the first Haredi event held in an Arab village in an effort to avoid detection, according to Channel 12.
While Kafr Qasim was largely spared by the first wave of coronavirus, months later the city was facing 170 infections per 10,000 residents, the 2nd-highest rate in the country.
Large weddings, traditionally held in summer, are often blamed as the source of outbreaks in Israel’s Arab community.
Weddings are generally not allowed to take place at this time, and officials have refused to reopen wedding venues due to the fear of infections at tightly packed events in which it is difficult to maintain social distancing.
Prime Minister Netanyahu announced Thurs that next week he'll propose increasing fines for yeshivas operating in violation of lockdown, in defiance of regulations.
ReplyDeleteHundreds of Haredi elementary & high-school yeshivas in high infection areas have opened at the order of a senior rabbi, with many Haredi officials justifying the move & police only sporadically enforcing restriction.
The size of fines for rule-breakers is an ongoing debate & Bibi didn't provide specifics on his proposal. Virus czar Ronni Gamzu pushed for fines at NIS 50,000 ($14,800), but top police officials said it's unreasonable to expect officers to hand out such steep fines, as it's emotionally difficult.
Channel 12 reports that in light of police opposition, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein proposed lowering fines to NIS 10,000 ($3,000) for those hosting gatherings, including weddings & yeshivas. Repeat offenders, though, would see rates rise to NIS 50,000.
In a video, Bibi thanks Israelis for adhering to the rules & showing solidarity to cut infection rates, but added “not everyone's cooperating.”
“That's why next week I'll introduce more steps vs those who violate laws, including heavy fines for yeshivas open without approval,” he said.
“This isn’t against someone, it's against something: against the virus. I expect cooperation from everyone, without exception,” he said, without calling out Haredim.
Speaking to Ynet, Edelstein said he had no problem with 3rd & 4th grade classes returning Nov. 1, provided the virus abates.
He indicated opening 1st & 2nd grades will be more complicated, adding the Education Ministry will have to present a plan to ensure safety of students.
A military task force said Wed the morbidity rate remains very high in absolute numbers.

ReplyDeleteYou can't make this stuff up.
ReplyDeletePhilly-Agudah-Lipschutz excerpted a conspiracy from an anti-vaxx crackpot website that they are peddling around today, that masks cause "bacterial pneumonia" to the wearer.
And Fresser wannabe Yair Hoffman has issued another demented column as part of the Agudah's childish binge to scream at Cuomo. He cites R' Chaim Brisker for a supposed ptur that nursing home owners are not shuldiks for killing the alter mentchen, only Cuomo is.
First, be very careful when Hoffman starts with these pshettlach for halacha lemayseh (or even for drush for that matter) as he has been caught distorting teshuvos to fit corrupt Fresser agendas, including to cover up for molester-adulterer Dovid Weinberger.
Hoffman has no shame dragging R' Chaim ztl into this when he refused to join the Agudah back then while correctly predicting they would corrupt today. And R' Chaim was always bezunder careful with pikuach nefesh. So forget about nursing homes for a minute. The Fressers purposely infect everyone through yeshivos, shuls, etc, but no, only bring up nursing homes to exonerate Fressers & pin all the blame on Cuomo in a column that is mostly venting against the Governor! What does Hoffman expect to be gifted from the Fressers for this sick, perverse nonsense?
Has anyone blamed Ben Hirsch yet for giving Rabbeinu Yudi a look that could kill?
ReplyDeleteThe Judge you see had it all wrong in threatening Rabbeinu to stop staring at so called "victims" in Flatbush, when he was the REAL victim of Ben who never showed sayver ponim yaffos to Rabbeinu. Like Paysach Krohn said into Eckstein's microphone in the Citifield bathroom, people like this should be put in cherem!
I hope the Medical Examiner tells detectives to check into Yonason Tendler. Now with the prime material witness out of the picture, the shvantz won't have to run & hide in Israel every time he thinks there's an investigation into the hush money laundering. So he certainly has motive ...
ReplyDeleteThat parody blaming Ben Hirsch is actually pretty close to the reality of delusional Kolko supporters.
ReplyDeleteThey were actually accusing Ben out loud of hiding together with the Daily News reporter in bushes in the East 20s for the erev Shabbos holding cell release when Kolko would "be fine".
The reporter mentioned that Avi Kolko was the one who picked Yudi up when he made bail & brought him home.
Delusional logic dictated that the reporter could not have known for certain exactly who was driving unless someone intimately familiar with the Kolkos verified it. And since there is no one as "cruel & vindictive" against a "nice guy" like Yudi to have been watching the grand homecoming, there's an anan sahadi that must be Ben was hiding with the reporter in the bushes.
Horav Kolko is innocent!

Ridiculous because we need all negative tests to outsmart the anteh-Semitt in Albany, but I have a bad feeling R' Shmuel is going to cave to him for the umpteenth time.

Aww shucks! I was in the middle of composing my next sharp Jewish Press column demanding that Margo should give Kolko his job back.
ReplyDeleteYou see, Shalom Tendler has been explaining to me that the problem with blogs like this is that there are innocent people who have proof that is too sensitive to give to UOJ to exonerate themselves, but UOJ thinks he has to see the evidence & therefore he can just forge ahead anyway with OK Corral justice.

ReplyDeleteKamala Harris’s husband hits campaign trail with Jewish mayors
JTA — The Biden campaign held an online meeting for Jewish mayors featuring Doug Emhoff, vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s husband.
Mayor Rick Kriseman of St. Petersburg, Florida asked Emhoff how his Jewish upbringing had shaped him. According to the pool report on the Thursday virtual event, Emhoff said “standing up to bullies,” and made it clear he thought President Donald Trump was a bully. “We are going up against the biggest bully there is.”
Eric Garcetti, the Jewish mayor of Los Angeles, said he had known Emhoff, an entertainment lawyer based in Los Angeles, longer than he had known Harris, who currently serves as a US senator representing California. “On the campaign trail, he’s our secret weapon,” Garcetti said.
The call attracted 65 people, including the following Jewish Democratic mayors: Garcetti of Los Angeles; Kriseman of St. Petersburg; Steve Adler of Austin, Texas; Andy Berke of Cincinnati; Jacob Frey of Minneapolis; Steven Fulop of Jersey City, New Jersey; Kate Gallego of Phoenix; Libby Schaaf of Oakland; Steve Schewel of Durham, North Carolina; Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento; and Miro Weinberger of Burlington, Vermont.

ReplyDeleteEven without illegal overcrowded sardine can weddings, Da Mikelle has had music & mixed dancing for years during regular restaurant meals. Rabbonim called to complain that you can see the mixed dancing when driving by on Queens Blvd.
But like everything else, the Queens Vaad ignored it & then covered it up when it became publicly exposed.
https://nypost.com/2020/10/23/over-1k-hospitalized-in-ny-for-covid-19-highest-level-since-june/
For the 1st time in 4 months, over 1,000 New Yorkers were hospitalized for coronavirus, according to new state data released on Friday.
The state recorded 1,023 patients hospitalized for the virus Thursday, the highest recorded since June 22 when 1,104 New Yorkers were admitted for COVID.
50% of new hospital admissions in the last 2 weeks tracked in Brooklyn, Queens, Rockland & Orange counties
The rising count got so bad that DOH announced reinstated portions of lockdown on Oct 6 – shuttering non-essential businesses & schools again, back to measures in early March.
The worst neighborhoods are designated “red,” “orange” or “yellow” depending on severity.
Protests broke out in Brooklyn & Queens neighborhoods impacted, as Orthodox Jews decried restrictions.
Compliance enforcement continues, as the state Liquor Authority swiped 21 additional liquor licenses of bars & restaurants.
That's 238 total liquor licenses suspended tied to COVID violations since March.
One suspension occurred at a red zone, as SLA inspectors stumbled upon a 100-person wedding reception held at Da Mikelle Palace at 102 Queens Blvd in Forest Hills on Oct. 21.
Deputies heard music playing inside & entered — though the front lights were off “to give the impression the business was closed,” according to inspectors.
People were eating, drinking & dancing sans masks nor maintaining 6' social distancing, in violation of restrictions & the 50 person capacity limit.
Telling report on Queens Vaad Executive Drecktor Chaim Schwartz's mentors at KVH. Schwartz wrote it himself that KVH "taught me everything I know"!
ReplyDeleteYated parshas Breishis, page 30: "The battle of the butcher shop"
When Rav Krasnow was rov in the Boston suburb, Lowell, he gave hashgocho on fleish there. The next town over Lawrence had a greedy butcher in cahoots with KVH that ran a monopoly driving the price sky high & many Yidden to start buying treif. When Rav Krasnow helped bring a competing butcher to normalize prices, KVH did not like it whatsoever. KVH argued it's hasogas gvul because they have a rep rabbi in Lawrence on the greedy butcher & it doesn't matter how much money they extort. Rav Krasnow laughed them off that how could the Lawrence rabbi be a member of KVH when he davens Shabbos into a microphone & without a mechitzah?
KVH was mazmin Rav Krasnow. First question: what is your "price" to walk away from the new butcher? They couldn't believe it when Rav Krasnow insisted he's not for sale. They tell him "everyone has a price". He said not me. They said then we are going to zabla & Rabbi J.B. is our pick. They assumed Rav Krasnow would pick someone local who they could belittle. They freaked out when he picked Torah Vodaas rosh yeshiva Rav Kahanow, knowing that would make it national news and that the rosh yeshiva will make both KVH & YU look like lowlives. So they immediately dropped the din Torah to instead issue a fake cherem against Rav Krasnow! (The halacha is those issuing fake cherem are themselves put in cherem even without a beis din making it official)
R' Moshe Feinstein, R' Aron Kotler & the Suvalker Rov signed together that the KVH "cherem" on Rav Krasnow is fake, has no standing. KVH must have been fuming that even a maggid shiur in YU signed.
They were also sitting in the last week or two for Simcha Kaufman's wife, the camp "mother" of Camp Agudas Fressers.

1 in 5 yeshiva students who took part in govt-approved “capsules” in Aug & Sept contracted COVID, despite the program’s intended safeguards, according to a report Sunday.
ReplyDeleteCiting state figures, Channel 13 said 7,000 yeshiva students out of 35,000 who participated in the program, isolated from the outside world for weeks to study, came down with the disease.
The information was disclosed in response to a High Court petition by Yisrael Hofsheet NGO, which seeks to block Haredi yeshivas from opening, or allow other dorm high schools to open under same conditions.
In Sept, Haaretz reported capsules weren't properly adhered to at many yeshivas, with students breaking isolation & many sent home at the end of the term without receiving test results showing them to be negative for coronavirus — as required by the govt.
Schools around the country were shut in Sept as Israel’s 2nd wave surged to 9,000 new cases a day, prompting nationwide closure over the Jewish holidays. The huge spike — including disproportionate high rate among Haredim — was attributed to opening yeshivas in mid-August & general schools Sept 1.
Oct 16, multiple reports said the govt agreed to open Haredi yeshivas according to previously implemented “capsules” The plan, negotiated between govt virus manager for Haredim, Maj.-Gen. Roni Numa & rabbis, will see students return in isolated groups of 250, with multiple testing rounds. They'll remain in isolation until Hanukkah.
Officials say the program depends on morbidity among Haredim continuing to trend down
https://midhudsonnews.com/2020/10/08/town-of-newburgh-shuts-down-chadwick-lake-park-for-deep-cleaning-2/
ReplyDeleteFollowing visits by “out-of-towners” on Tues, Town of Newburgh officials shut down Chadwick Lake Park on Wed for “deep cleaning.”
Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio said all playgrounds & bathrooms were sanitized to eliminate any threat of virus or other germs.
A photo posted on Facebook showed a group of people, some wearing face masks, with a comment that 15 busloads pulled into the park. That could not be verified.
Piaquadio would not speculate where the visitors were from when asked if they were from Kiryas Joel, one of the COVID clusters. He would only say they're “out-of-towners.”
He said the park would reopen today (Thursday), but only for town residents who have day passes.

I HAVE NO BAD FEELINGS ABOUT THE HASIDIC COMMUNITY. I DON'T CARE WHAT RELIGION OR RACE SOMEONE IS. BUT PEOPLE SHOULD ACT RESPECTFUL OF OTHER'S PROPERTY. ONE OF THE RIVERFRONT BOATS TOOK OUT A GROUP OF HASIDIC A FEW YEARS AGO AND THE CAPTAIN TOLD ME THEY COMPLETELY TRASHED THE BOAT. THEN SOMEDAY WHEN THEY WANT TO COME BACK AND THEY ARE DENIED THEY CRY DISCRIMINATION. IF THEY WOULD LEAVE PLACES CLEAN THEY WOULD BE INVITED BACK. ESPECIALLY TODAY WITH THE VIRUS NO ONE WANTS TO CLEAN UP SOMEONE ELSES MESS.
Laura Decicco
The Hasidic community has enough land and money to build their own playgrounds , and guarantee that only they can use it . Must I remind the reason why their are private parks ? For the cleanliness and safety . To become a member gives the responsibility and respect for keeping a safe environment fir our children . They take over and disrespect our communities by invading and not following rules . So until they can respect our way of life , no we will not get along
Harold R Brown
This is Directly related to another Cuomo blunder. He should have made them follow the rules from the start. They are a big part of his voting base. A friend of mine said there were well over a hundred Hasidics in Chadwick lake. Most were not social distancing nor wearing masks.
Sonia Friberg
Why don't they build their own park. I live in a small town with a beautiful small town park. There is an Hasidic camp close by and they use this park and leave garbage all over. They have a huge camp...why don't they have their own park? Theyd rather spoil it for everyone else.
Angk Jeffb
They do have parks all around the Monroe area. I believe it was an intentional act to cause a "spike" in covid and take the heat off the Kiryas Joel and Pine Tree areas.
Pete photo
William Rugar it doesn't matter where they are from the majority do not wear masks or social distance. Look at the hot spots in Brooklyn. They have thousands outside not wearing masks or distancing and then they get mad when they shut them down.
