I've listened to lots of R' Moshe Weinberger shiurim where, on one hand, he talks about how a fixed yeshiva system where every boy must dress the same, talk the same, and learn the same is crazy and destroys the ruach of many of the students. And a few sentences later he talks about how sacred all that is because that's how it was in the alte heim, it's our mesorah, etc.
