This footage is seeing the light of day after nearly 80 years. The original 8mm film was shot primarily by my grandfather Harry Haber. He was born in Pomorzany, Galicia, Austria on May 7, 1895, and immigrated to U.S. arriving in New York on February 1, 1910 aboard the S.S. Amerika.

The ship manifest lists his last place of residence as Kadworna, Austria. His arrival in the U.S. was two years after his father's immigration to the U.S., and proceeded by one year his mother's and 5 siblings' immigration. (His parents had four more children once in the U.S.)

The film was stored in a box with other slides and family photos. Originally stored in Washington D.C. and Maryland until approximately 2000, at which time the box was stored in a garage in Florida until it was discovered in late 2020. Once digitized by DigMyPics.com.

I was only able to identify my father, David Haber in the film. Only moments after posting a shorter version of the film to Facebook (to the group "Tracing the Tribe - Jewish Genealogy") I received a a message which led to a conversation with a gentleman who identified the location as Camp Mesivta in Upstate New York.

This was the summer camp for boys of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath in Brooklyn, NY. The rabbi walking towards the camera on the path with other people at 4:14 in the video has been identified as Rabbi Yisroel Chaim Kaplan. The rabbi with the red-ish beard at 4:30 is Rabbi Shlomo Heiman.

R' Yitzchok Kirzner zl may be somewhere in the '42 footage.

He was recently niftar from the virus in his 90s.

He was a chossid of the Vizhnitzer in Vien who miraculously survived the Nazi Anschluss pogrom, escaping to NY to learn in Torah Vodaas. He was co-founder of Scranton yeshiva with Rav Schneidman & then a dayan on the Toronto beis din for over 50 years

several years ago I read Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz's biography. Amazing!
But permit me to ask: how would his attitude and outlook be looked upon in present-day frum world?

A retarded OU mashgiach named Ribowsky who follows Agudah propaganda as his religion & hangs out on Rabbi Yudel Shain's blog as a gadfly critic & arch-enemy of the Mendlowitz mishpocho, is of course belittling the footage.

Is Belsky in the '48 clip? Or was he brought Upstate in his diaper in '42?

If anyone heard weird noises back then he was probably getting early practice in for his bloodcurdling screams to silence Kolko victims at Camp Agudah

7:40 PM --- If you spot a red haired vilder chaya kid relieving himself on a tree --- That's him!

I 'tried to stop' little Sruly Belsky from pishing on the boimen!

Unlike with my famous claim in the Kolko case, Ich hub eidim! Ask Feivy Gruberger!

Nosson, but I thought you were commissioning Leib Pinter to write Artscroll puffery on Belsky in order to be mechanef Rechnitz to give a mega donation to your Mesorah Heritage "Foundation"?

I thought Margo was matzdik Belsky peeing on boimen as al pi Soid, as long as it's not a teitelboim

Yehuda Gruberger said...

Well, Margo doesn't pee in public, but only because he's got a Pharoah complex

A woman who accused the former co-director of the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles of sexual misconduct was awarded $177,500 in damages.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court jury on Tuesday found Yehuda Berg, 43, the son of the center’s founder, guilty

When I was in Scherman's shiur in Torah Vodaas he never told us any of this juicy stuff. And I certainly never heard him talk of trying to "stop" anyone

@ Zev,

Scherman didn't need to notify any of you peons what he was up to. He was saying all kinds of kavonnos by shem Hashem in davening, to keep Kolko away from the boiler room & Belsky from the forest.

"Belsky from the forest"

Dovid Hamelech had all future scenarios in mind when he was mechaber Tehillim.

Could grooming the future Fressers in Camp Agudah to hover around meat carving stations = yecharsemenna CHAZIR miyaar?

YTV is also patting themselves on the back in newspaper ads for a big increase in enrollment at all levels.

I don't understand what the big attraction is so I'm wondering if they are just taking credit for external factors having created the situation.

Many Brooklyn yeshivos today decided to have a kitah alef only for baalei kishron, hence if YTV is still offering the old standard of 3 levels per grade, that would explain a lot.

Many Brooklyn chadorim no longer take kids of young mishpochos who they suspect will move to the suburbs, hence if YTV is not makpid, that also explains a lot.

Every year there are more bochurim not being accepted by BMG because there is a larger population but only so many seats in Lakewood. YTV is a primary default.

I don't know if the Chassidishe population has continued to grow at YTV which was already becoming significant 35 years ago. There is always a large supply of heimishe who either are serious & want to learn like Litvaks or who are bums looking for many freedoms unavailable in their own yeshivos, like driving cars and worse.

It seems you forgot to mention Ribowsky again. Is everything ok?

What do you expect when Tatty Izzy plotted 'prodfather' beatings ("a zelche makkos") of innocent people in his dining room (and for sure around his summer home with bloodcurdling threats against little Kolko victims) & screamed like a madman into the phone at certain callers? (UOJ can testify to that!) Guess who the main Torah Vodaas building is now named for?

I've noticed her in action, that even at least one of his daughters is a rude person.
