Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who became an aide to former president Donald Trump, mocked Jews for observing Passover, according to a lawsuit filed Monday by a former assistant who is accusing him of sexual assault and harassment.
“Jews want to go through their freaking Passover all the time, man oh man,” Giuliani once said, according to the complaint, which was filed on Monday in New York Supreme Court and indicates that the comments were recorded. “Get over the Passover. It was like 3,000 years ago. The Red Sea parted, big deal. It’s not the first time that happened.”

The statement that Jews regularly observe Passover is accurate. Retelling the story of the Israelite slaves’ exodus from Egypt each spring is one of the most widely observed Jewish practices, and is frequently cited as an inspiration by politicians (including the person who holds Giuliani’s old job, New York City Mayor Eric Adams).
Meanwhile, there is no historical record of the Red Sea ever parting. The Torah says that God was able to make the miracle happen with the help of Moses, who led the Israelites to freedom — but there is no evidence that such a phenomenon has happened before or since. The vast majority of the $10 million suit focuses on allegations by Nicole Dunphy, a former Giuliani associate, that he pressed her into sexual activity without her consent and harassed her continually almost as soon as she began working for him in January 2019.
The Jewish elements of the lawsuit were first reported by the Forward. In addition to mocking Jewish observance of Passover, Giuliani is also accused in the complaint of disparaging Jewish men’s penis sizes and commenting about the “‘freaking Arabs’ and Jews.” He also made racist comments about other groups, according to the suit.
Giuliani, who was New York City mayor from 1994 to 2001, and in 2021 was barred from practicing law in New York state due to his repeated false claims about the 2020 election. Through a spokesperson, he “vehemently” denied the allegations Monday to the Associated Press.

You gotta give credit to Giuliani. Go back to NY to the Dinkin days, and you can appreciate what Rudy did. He took a city that was on the brink of going to the dogs and squeegee men and restored it to its past splendor. Kudos to him and Bernie Goetz. I recall the cliff-hanger of an election and the euphoria when shortly after midnight the election was called and the city was saved.

On December 22, 1984, Bernhard Goetz (/ˈɡɛts/[2]) shot four young Black men on a New York City Subway train in Manhattan after they allegedly tried to rob him.[3][4][5][6] All four teenagers survived, although Darrell Cabey was paralyzed and suffered brain damage as a result of his injuries.[7] Goetz fled to Bennington, Vermont, before surrendering to police nine days after the shooting. He was charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and several firearms offenses. A jury subsequently found Goetz guilty of one count of carrying an unlicensed firearm and acquitted him of the remaining charges. For the firearm offense, he served eight months of a one-year sentence. In 1996, Cabey obtained a $43 million civil judgment against Goetz, equivalent to $74 million in 2021.[7]
Goetz was dubbed the "Subway Vigilante" by the New York press. To his supporters, he came to symbolize New Yorkers' frustrations with the high crime rates of the 1980s. But questions of what impact race—and racism—had on Goetz, the public reaction, and the criminal verdict were hotly contested. The incident sparked a nationwide debate on crime in major U.S. cities, the legal limits of self-defense, and the extent to which the citizenry could rely on the police to secure their safety.[5] The incident has been cited as leading to successful National Rifle Association campaigns to loosen restrictions for concealed carrying of firearms.[8]

In the early afternoon of December 22, 1984, four young men from the Bronx—19-year-olds Barry Allen, Troy Canty, and Darrell Cabey, and 18-year-old James Ramseur—boarded a downtown 2 train (a Broadway–Seventh Avenue express). Canty would later testify that the teenagers were en route to rob a video arcade in Manhattan.[4] Bernhard Goetz boarded the train at the 14th Street station in Manhattan.[9] At the time, about fifteen to twenty other passengers were in a R22 subway car, the seventh car of the ten-car train.[10]: 23 [11]
Troy Canty approached Goetz, asked Goetz how he was,[12] and made some overture for money:[13] According to Canty, he said, "Can I have $5?"[14] According to Goetz, Canty, who Goetz said was joined by another one of the teens, said, "Give me five dollars" in a "normal tone" of voice.[4][15] While those involved and witnesses disagree as to precisely what happened next, Goetz subsequently pulled a handgun and fired five shots at the four, wounding them all. Cabey's spine was severed, resulting in brain damage and partial paralysis.[16][7]

Shortly after the shooting, the train conductor entered the car and loudly exclaimed, "What's going on?" He approached Goetz and asked what happened. Goetz pointed to the north end of the car and then told him, "I don't know ... they tried to rob me and I shot them."[10]: 102 The conductor then went to the passengers to check if they were injured before returning to Goetz and asked if he was a police officer, which Goetz denied, and he then asked Goetz for the gun, which Goetz refused to turn over.[10]: 102
