JEW-JIVE

Baltimore Jewish Times -
By Anonymous Insider

April 18, 2007

Up until the last minute, the Baltimore rabbis were hoping
we would cancel the story, and they would therefore find
no need to send out their letter.

We were urged not to go to press, but Neil decided to push
forward. The final straw was UOJ's (blogger - Unorthodox
Jew) publishing of the abridged version of the article. They
knew they were in trouble and mailed out the letter right
after yom-tov.

UOJ is indeed correct, the rabbis were coerced in to the
mailing, they would never have mailed it out if not for the
story being published.

Rabbi Heinemann's conduct exemplifies the worst of the
rabbinate by posting the shameful note in his shul. He
should be severely chastised for his double-speak.

We will continue to publish and publicize these crimes and
will not be intimidated.

Rabbinic Abuse in Our Community

There is no subject more painful for me to discuss than the issue of Rabbinic abuse within our communities. Yet at this point I believe it is the subject most necessary to address. I must acknowledge that this horrible form of Rabbinic abuse and corruption exists ” and has existed for generations ” in all Jewish communities as well.

This issue of rabbinic abuse, coverups and vile corruption by so many rabbis and Jewish organizations must be confronted directly and I believe that this discussion can be a first step towards the necessary and achievable goal of ridding our communities of this horrible scourge...................

As long as Moshe Eisemann is living on the Ner Israel campus surrounded by hundreds of children, and Eliezer Eisgrau is principal of Talmudical Academy of Baltimore, your words mean as much to me as those of your fellow "clergymen", albeit of a different faith, the "Most Reverend" Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson!

Brave rabbis....Admitting sexual abuse "exists" in the Jewish community with a figurative gun at their heads, knowing that scores of Jewish sexual abuse victims nationwide are talking to journalists, attorneys, the various D.A.s, and the police.

This is one Jew you can't jive!

The following handwritten letter was posted in the Agudah of Baltimore yesterday afternoon:

how come you dont have these allegations on thousands of other rebbi's and mechanchim, surely you can find plenty of disgruntled students at their teacher's but an angry kid will not make such an accusation if it were not true, just look how hard it is with those that did come forward, in some instances years after their abuse and only b/c of one man by the name of R'UOJ that started a crusade for our future that people decided he is right i have to come forward so that the sicko that abused me will not have a chance with another innocent kid.

so go ahead and try to prove him innocent you putz,

THE CONCERNS OF PINCHOS LIPSCHUTZ OF THE YATED!
..............."Why make a life?s mission out of buying a suit?? you can sense them grumbling. ?All suits are basically the same and the hats, too. They?re all black and made by Borsalino; why are you making such a big deal about which hat to buy??
I was standing in Bencraft Hatters a week before Yom Tov. My friend, Asher, who works there, had already picked out my hat and I was waiting for it be steamed and placed in a box. There was one fellow in the store ahead of me who kept on trying on different hats and looking in the mirror to see which one enhanced his features the best. Asher was quite patient with him, explaining to him the virtues of this hat over that one, and the subtle differences between the hats that you and I would never notice.
Finally, the fellow chose a hat. But as he stood on line, he seemed to still be vacillating about it. He obviously wasn?t at peace with his choice. When it came time to pay and have his initials put in the hat, the man asked that the initials not be embossed so that he can return the hat if ?his wife doesn?t like it.?
I made some kind of comment to Asher about the princely way he treated the guy and his hat. He responded, ?Zeh zechuto.? When a man buys a hat, he deserves to be indulged and taken care of. He is entitled to walk out the door knowing he got himself a nice hat for Yom Tov.
Asher not only takes his work seriously, but takes pride in ensuring that a customer is totally satisfied. It is for this reason that his boss considers it well worth it to fly him in from Beit Shemesh to stand in the store and sell hats.".................

April 13, 2007 -- The mystery inmate who had a jailhouse affair with a stunning prison shrink is a violent, abusive, twice-convicted felon who is a member of the Bloods gang, The Post has learned.
And psychologist Magdalena Sanchez kept her lover, Demetrius Hill, on suicide watch so they could have sex in private whenever she wanted, a source close to the case said yesterday.

"She kept him on suicide watch so she could have exclusive access to him," the source said.

Sanchez, 35, was indicted last week for allegedly having cellblock romps with Hill, 28, between September 2005 and February 2006 and lying about it.

She is out on bail and living on the Upper West Side with her hubby, finance whiz Josh Spitz.

Court records reveal that just weeks before authorities discovered the illicit affair between Sanchez and Hill, she wrote a Brooklyn federal judge pleading that Hill be sprung from prison.

She was trying to convince Judge Denis Hurley - who was about to sentence Hill for robbery and gun possession - that the four years Hill served before his conviction were "punishment enough for his acts."

"It would be a shame for someone like Demetrius to [be] robbed of the opportunity to have a 'normal' life," Sanchez said in the March 20, 2006, letter.

Hill, who was facing 85 years, was sentenced only to 20 years, but not because of Sanchez's efforts. Court records reveal his lawyer managed to get Hurley to throw out many of the charges on jurisdictional grounds.

Hill was moved to a federal prison in West Virginia.

He was arrested in February 2002 and charged with robbing Nassau County drug dealers with a BB gun and a .25-caliber pistol.

Convicted in February 2005, Hill - who had previously done time for attempted robbery - was awaiting sentencing at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn when he allegedly began his fling with Sanchez.

The pair could hook up easily because Hill was in a special "suicide cell," sources said.

"I saw her come in late at night. I know they were alone for many, many hours at a time, sometimes the whole night," recalled a retired officer, who said he was on duty when Sanchez made her house calls.

"She wore very tight, enticing clothes - like a tight, low-cut, short, red dress and very high heels that would click up and down the empty halls," he said. "She also wore pants so tight you can see what's in her pockets."

Several areas of the federal pen are camera-free, including the suicide cells, where Hill was sent after swallowing a razor blade in a purported attempt to kill himself, the ex-guard said.

While Hill was on suicide watch, he was put in a padded cell and stripped naked, with only a cover-up apron for clothing.

"They are watched 24 hours a day by a guard. But if a psychologist comes in - like Sanchez did - and says, 'I'd like to meet with my patient,' the guard has to go," the former guard said.

Court records describe Hill as a violent, uncontrollable inmate who throws feces and urine at guards.

"He was very violent - she tamed him," the ex-worker said.

Despite his proclivity for violence, Hill was regarded - even by prosecutors and his jailers - as extremely intelligent, court papers show. He represented himself during much of his robbery case, quoting Cicero and the Old Testament in his legal briefs.

BEWARE: Some stores that sold their chometz, do enter the closed off area [on Chol Hamoed] that is the "goy's" domain in order to restock the shelves/remove the partitions or coverings etc.
It may invalidate the or question the "Mechirah".

Hatzlocha Grocery (branches in Willy & Monsey/Spring Valley) claims that the workers were removing the coverings and doing what ever in the stores on Chol Hamoed "without permission". The doors were locked and the employees were fully active.

We are questioning if the workers have access to the store and can come and go as they please? There are items that require seals and employees shouldn't have access on their own.
But we don't doubt that it is completly under control.

The OK said after the first episode that they were installing cameras that they could rely on. Can someone circumvent a camera? Burglars do it all the time without much sophistication. You take a still picture and mount it in front of a lens. The Chof K started the camera meshugass 10 years ago at the very questionable Ratner's which recently became treif after 100 years as a Lower East Side landmark. The same thing at a terrible place owned by Ratner's that was named after a rotzeach from the mafia. Because it (Lansky's lounge) was mostly a goyishe hangout for alcoholic drinks and the people are dressed very untznius, the Chof K would not hang their teuda there even though they were machshir.

R' Yudel, do you know if any posek has come out against the use of cameras?

Aron Tendler was forced to resign from the RCC. Rabbi Bess will not comment about it.

Bryks used to give a hashgocho in Winnipeg.

Gafni / Winiarz, as part of his tzidkus act was criticizing Florida hashgochos that are actually upstanding and reliable. Gafni was last reported living somewhere in Utah with his new Mormon wife(s). It is very difficult for police to gain access to remote Mormon polygamous communes.

Hashgochos are certifying events where pedophile Yeedle Werdyger sings despite a psak from Dayan Westheim that he should be shunned.

Mendel Epstein's group a division of a Chabad hashgocho by the same name.

The OU continues to certify Le Marais.

A rosh yeshiva told me a story that happened at Ratner's about 70 years ago. A choshuve rov from der Heim came to the Lower East Side and sat down in the restaurant to get something to eat. A frum guy employed as a waiter came over to quietly warn him that he sees what goes in the kitchen and the place is not really kosher. The rov left.

Are there any old timers here who know who was machshir Ratner's back then?

From Vos Iz Neias:

Brooklyn, NY - Junior's Kosher Cheesecake Loses its OU Seal of Approval
Brooklyn, NY - The legendary Junior’s cheesecake purveyor lost the coveted (DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH) Orthodox Union seal of approval after a Junior’s foreman baked up a batch of delicious, creamy cheesecakes during the Passover holiday.

“The whole thing was a mistake,” Junior’s co-owner Alan Rosen said. “One of our customers ran out of cheesecake, so our shop foreman made some. I didn’t know about it at the time, and it’s a violation. We know we’re not supposed to bake during Passover, but what can I say?”

A spokesman for the OU, declined to explain why its rabbis pulled the Junior’s certification, which was announced though an e-mail that gets sent to thousands of kosher followers nationwide.
“Effective April 1st, 2007,” the understated e-mail said, Junior’s cheesecakes “are no longer certified by the Orthodox Union and will no longer bear the OU symbol.”
Rosen promised that Junior’s would regain its kosher certification within days, albeit from “another group” that issues such declarations.

While Rosen downplayed the loss of kosher certification, the Talmudic minds of other experts weren’t so sure.
“I think this is a big deal,” said Rabbi Aaron Raskin of Congregation Bnai Avraham in Brooklyn Heights. “If you’re a kosher customer of his, you’ll think twice.”
Raskin, of course, is kosher — but he never went near a Junior’s cheesecake, even when it had the OU seal. “Even though they were kosher, they didn’t use what we call ‘Jewish milk,’” Raskin said. “To be the highest level of kosher, the milk has to be followed all the way from the cow’s udder to the cake. That’s ‘cholov y’israel.’” [Brooklyn Paper]

THESE OPERATIONS ARE ALLOWED TO OPEN DURING PESACH AND CONDUCT BUSINESS AS USUAL AS LONG AS THEY SIGN A PHONY PIECE OF PAPER. HOWEVER, IF THEY BAKE ON PESACH, THE OU TAKES AWAY ITS HASHGACHA! IT'S PERFECTLY OK FOR THE LE MARAIS CHEF TO COOK WITH DAIRY MARGARINE("HONEST MISTAKE")BUT TO BAKE ON PESACH (DISHONEST MISTAKE?) WHILE THE RESTAURANTS ARE OPENED SELLING CHOMETZ IS UNACCEPTABLE? MORE OU HYPOCRISY!!!
IT MUST BE THAT JUNIOR'S WOULDN'T GIVE IN TO THE OU DEMAND OF A RATE INCREASE. THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THE REAL VIOLATION!!!!

Who this generation knows as "old man" Ralbag is from the Upper East Side and is probably no older than his 80s. He would be too young to be a rav hamchshir 70 years ago. Was his father also in the hashgocho business?

Is that the same Walkin family from the shul in Kew Gardens? They are the same mishpocho as the Beis Aron on Shas, a gadol Batorah in Lita.

Anonymous said...

My contacts tell me that Arye Ralbag's son Tzvikky, who learned in Brisk, is trying to clean up the mess at Triangle K left by his father & grandfather. Let's see if that goes anywhere.

Ralbag currently has Hebrew National (Conagra). The old hashgocho Rabbi Tibor Stern was running a ship of lowlife Israeli "mashgichim" who were living with shiksa girlfriends. When R' Moishe's talmid, R' Efraim Greenblatt, went to the shlachthoyz in Montgomery Alabama and saw what was going on, poskim said people have to kasher their keilim. Rav Greenblatt received death threats.

The OU or someone continues to certify Ratner's frozen products sold in supermarkets. Even when the restaurant was still "kosher" there were Ratner's food carts further downtown that were for treif, not under any hashgocho. It's a violation of major hashgocho policies to allow such a situation but they did tolerate it.

Rabbi Raskin has the wealthiest shul in Brooklyn. His mispallelim live in Brownstones priced between $4 to $12 million. They are mostly Wall St types or owners of blue chip companies. Raskin is one of many smart Lubobs who rushed into an area to stake his claim before anyone else opens a shul there. These guys don't even call the shul "Chabad". These Lubobs have been doing the same thing in all the communities surrounding the 5 Towns like Valley Stream, Elmont and East Rockaway. They figured out that out of control property prices would push people to move further out so they cashed in.

I'm not 100% sure about the kashrus, but when he was running Dairyland on Nostrand & T, people were getting sick from the old rotting cheese he made the pizza with. When customers insisted that it looked and smelled awful, he put on a big shmaychel and insisted it's fresh.

The following information is posted on The Awareness Center's web page regarding Rabbi Ephraim Shapiro:

Letter from Rabbi Moshe Heinemann
April 18, 2007

The Following letter was posted in Agudath Israel of Baltimore by Rabbi Moshe Heinemann as a reaction to the Baltimore Jewish Times publishing a story regarding Rabbi Ephraim Shapiro. During a meeting with Rabbi Heinemann he disclosed that his issue with the Jewish Times was with the fact that Rabbi Ephraim Shapiro had passed away and that he could not be offered the opportunity to defend himself. He also added that over the years the Baltimore Jewish Times has been repeatedly "Orthodox bashing". He went to on to say that this was not fair to the family members of Shapiro who did nothing wrong, and it would hurt family members chances of getting a good shiddach (marriage partner). Please note that Phil Jacobs, author of the series on sexual abuse in the Jewish community and is the senior editor of Baltimore Jewish Times is an orthodox Jew.

Chowhound is run by a bunch of frei or goyish choleriyos (and owned by a famous chef). They have techies that monitor the site in real time 24/7. Even though they run a "kashrus" section, if you write anything about a halacha that's not politically correct, they delete it in a matter of a few minutes and ban your IP from the site. This includes yayin akum or even if you criticize them for censorship. If you write in Hebrew or Yiddish they also delete because you might be saying something verboten to them.

It was clear it was a sham and she had no interest in being frum despite her coached lies. She in fact was chozer lesura shortly afterwards. She wanted to marry a black sheep of one family who were furious that the rov would go ahead even though there was an ulterior motive. During a heated argument with this family, the rov was asked if he would let this woman marry his own son. Correction:

That was "Best Kosher" (Best Treif) in Montgomery Alabama - not Hebrew National. I don't recall now who the "hashgocho" was but it may have also been Rabbi Tibor Stern.

Hebrew National had a similar scandal with shochtim though. Arye Ralbag actually did improve the situation somewhat. For example, one lowlife Sefardi married a shiksa that he was "megayer". Ralbag found out that the shvantz was living in a city with no mikva or shul. He demanded that the shochet move to a city with those amenities. The shochet was fired by Conagra when he didn't comply and then launched a lawsuit.

Clarification: Unlike the other joke hechsherim out there, Ralbag actually follows a standard. While it's very odd, if not dubious that he utilizes many a daas yochid that no one else holds of, he at least himself eats what he puts his shtempel on.

Hold an upschurnish ceremony? Fine, even though it's origin is a non-Jewish. Wear masks on Purim? Ditto. Dozens of other "holy" haredi minhagim? Ditto. (See Sperber's new volume of Minhagei Yisrael for many examples of non-Jewish customs adopted by Jews and now held "holy" by haredim too ignorant to know the actual source of the customs.)

http://failedmessiah.typepad.com/failed_messiahcom/2007/04/beit_yakov_girl.html#comment-67247770

Hey Shmarya, you blashpheming ignoramous, you don't know the first thing about minhagim, despite quoting from some malcontent with an agenda. Any putz can offer unfounded speculation about the origin of a minhag. A calculating bastard can further fool people with intelligent sounding crap.

Purim masks are rooted in a Torah minhag as explained by some seforim that are beyond know-nothings like you. You probably never heard of the Ketzos Hashulchan and other seforim who detail the origins of minhagim.

In the chumash there is the account of a bunch of Amalekim disguised as Canaanim led by Arod. Masks are therefore symbolic of Amaleki trickery.

Just like Arod's group attacked the Jews, so do present-day Amalekim like Shmarya Rosenberg. The saintly Chofetz Chaim said over from Rishonim on Nach that Jews who behave like Shmarya come from the Amalekim who snuck in with the Erev Rav.

The only thing Shmarya knows about masks is when he fantasizes over reruns of "Eyes Wide Shut", which is all he can do since the alter bochur is no Tom Cruise and has never had luck with women.

It’s Midnight; Must be a Frivolous Lawsuit Calling
You’d think a guy making legal threats he expected to be taken seriously wouldn’t call your home at 11:45. You’d be wrong. Apparently, it’s the season for lawsuits against blogs.
Someone claiming to be an attorney and a friend of Rabbi Aron Tendler of Baltimore, MD — who is a different fellow from the Rabbi Aron Tendler who recently resigned his pulpit in Los Angeles, CA — called at that late hour tonight to complain about a JewishWhistleBlower comment reading:

Also add Rabbi Aron Tendler (formerly of LA) to that list.

“That list” was “a quick list of people with connections to the state of MD that have allegations of some sort against them posted on-line” from his previous comment.
The caller asserted that JWB’s comment libeled his friend Aron Tendler by making it appear that the other Aron Tendler, the Baltimore one, was the one against whom the allegations have been made.
Of course, it’s obvious that the two could get mixed up, but not by JWB, who’s well aware — as are presumably all who’ve followed this case — that the two men are different. Hence JWB’s appellation “formerly of LA,” to distinguish the two. And similarly available is information that the Aron Tendler accused of abuse does have various connections to Maryland, and it’s been well-noted that he’s been seen in the Baltimore area since his resignation. But the caller didn’t want to hear that the writing by JWB was legitimate, or that it couldn’t reasonably be read as referring to the Baltimore Aron Tendler, nor that if he felt it hit too close to him, he was perfectly entitled to leave a comment in the same space. No, to those suggestions from me, he informed me that he is an attorney, claimed significant knowledge of defamation law, and that I could expect a lawsuit. To that, I said, “well, then I’ll look forward to reading your brief” and hung up.
At the late hour, I forget the caller’s name, but I think it might have been Irving or Edward Kramer, and the Caller ID showed up for a Thomas Kimberly (perhaps Kimberly Thomas) of (443) 414-9434.
What is it about blogs that brings the bad lawyers of the woodwork?

— I’ve waited much longer than 60 days on fairly ordinary motions. —

I’ve had the same experience as well. The theoretical recourse that a party has is to file an action with the appellate division pursuant to CPLR 7803(1), to compel the judge to render a decision. However, you can be assured that when the judge does render the decision, it will not be to your liking.

With that said, I would be shocked if the judge took more than the 60 days allowed by CPLR 2219, because this case received some media attention. Judges will take a case more seriously if there is mentioned in the media.

The judges are currently very upset about their pay, and there are rumors they might engage in a work slowdown, unless they get a raise, but I only once saw an act consistent with the rumors.

Asserting that “the requirement for transparency and governance is even more vital in the Claims Conference,” Leonard wrote that it “will surely be inviting scandal and controversy to its own institution if Rabbi Singer, who is largely responsible for the financial irregularities at the WJC, maintains any further leadership role.”

Bronfman described Singer as “a man I used to respect, admire and love,” but said he “spent WJC funds for his personal use and he lied to me.”

He said he reached out to Singer and his wife Evelyne to try to end the longtime leader’s ties with the WJC in a dignified way that would spare him embarrassment. But, he wrote, Singer reacted with “arrogance” and “dismissed my interventions, not as the expressions of a concerned friend, but as the ranting of a crazy fool.”

Bronfman wrote that Singer’s “reckless behavior put both the legal and moral standings of the World Jewish Congress at risk, and that could not be tolerated.”

His letter states that the New York State Attorney General and the Internal Revenue Service “can apply sanctions to the WJC itself.” He wrote that “the apparent improper use of charitable assets, violation of the Assurance of Discontinuance signed by the World Jewish Congress and the New York State Attorney General, and concealment, non-disclosure and cover-up of significant information are all serious matters.”

Gilligan keeps deleting comments about Heinemann. Does he have a contract to publish his seforim or something?

After the little weasel was hired to publish the works of Rabbi Michael Broyde, he won't comment on the related Chovavei Torah scandal or other improprieties that Broyde has been accused of.

At least when Gilligan used to shield the drug addict breaking into shuls, he had some kind of shita he adhered to.

Pasik argues later in the thread that the cops would not have arrested the rebbe.

Then at 04.19.07 - 11:09 am, Gilligan argues that Heinemann is being "reasonable" against the Baltimore Jewish Times.

I am the principal of a large high school on the West Coast and as such, I am what is referred to as a "mandated reporter." One Friday morning, I received a call from a parent - a prominent lawyer in the community. He informed me that he was on his way over to my office and demanded that I wait for him. I told him that I was just about ready to give my weekly sichah to the talmidim and that he would have to wait until I finished. He made it clear that he would not wait, and from the tone of his voice I understood that I had better put off the sichah.
He came into my office with a tape and proceeded to play the recording. It was a message left on his son's answering machine that morning. His wife had noticed the red message button blinking as she cleaned the room and decided to play the machine to discover who was leaving messages during school time.
She was shocked to hear a message from a teacher in our school that was more than suggestive and that graphically recounted previous meetings as well as an invitation to meet the teacher that evening after school. She called her husband who called me.
By law I should have called the police. However, I simply was unprepared to accept that this teacher could have been engaging in the kind of relationship described. It simply did not fit. I pleaded with the irate father that if I called the police, they would immediately arrest the teacher and if somehow it turned out not to be him, his life would nevertheless be ruined. I suggested that we should first go back to the house and listen to the answering machine rather than the recording he had so as to be absolutely sure. He agreed and we did so.
We listened to the answering machine and I was not completely convinced that the voice on the tape was that of the teacher. We agreed to go back to school and call his son in and see if the teacher was indeed molesting him. The father agreed and when we brought his son into the office, he played the tape and we told the son that he had to tell us what was going on so that we could protect him. At no time did we express any doubt that it was the teacher on the tape because we wanted the child to feel as comfortable and as safe as possible.
When we played the tape, the student burst out laughing and told us that the message was from a fellow student who was quite good at imitating voices. He then informed us that many of the students in the class left such prank messages on other people's machines.
Had the father not been so co-operative, had he gone straight to the police as would have been his right, a terrible tragedy would have resulted and the life of the innocent teacher would have been ruined. Imagine, if you will, what page the media would have printed the news of the arrest and where the news of the dropping of the charge would have been posted.
Yes we have an enormous and serious problem, but we still have to exercise discretion and care.

UOJ,
I know you were asked about Rabbi Simcha Shafran (Avi's father) already. I have a reason that I would like your opinion. Should I assume that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree? Can I value R' Simcha's judgments?
Thankyou.

Dear Jew In Baltimore,

Let me try this response:

1-If a "tree" produced a rotten, poisonous, diseased,"apple", that has caused "illness" to anyone that had come in contact with this "apple", what may you assume about the tree?

2-If GM manufactured and sold you a car without a "motor", would you buy another car from GM?

R' Simcha Shafran was clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Gilligan was asked about his side of the story where he shielded the drug addict breaking into shuls. On his blog he refused to talk about it, saying he's "not comfortable". This is while whining that he "doesn't know how the story got out." Gilligan supporters posting on Jewish Survivors blog said he was confronted by a crowd at a kiddush by Schiffenbauer's shul and he spoke about it there, but refuse to say what he said.

Since most of us don't know anyone who was at Schiffenbauer's kiddush, and the trial of the drug addict was public, in which Gilligan REFUSED to testify because it was, according to him, mesira / lashon hara, Gilligan owes the public an explanation.

This is an order from the Skipper. Maybe Gilligan wasn't personally violated, but many shuls were broken into and robbed of cash & sifrei Torah.
