Rabbi Menachem Genack Said: “Hopefully the pandemic will have slowed down by January, and tourism will resume. A lot of people are going to want to go to the Emirates (For Pesach),” he added, and said the organization is going to have its hands full “in terms of trying to coordinate all of that.”

UAE Crown Prince Instructs Abu Dhabi Hotels to Offer Kosher Food, Plans for Passover 2021

In response to a request from the leadership of the United Arab Emirates, Orthodox Union (OU) Kosher, the world’s largest kosher certification agency, will now be the leading kosher certification agency within the UAE, and will do so in partnership with the local Jewish community.

The OU Kosher will oversee all kosher food in hotels throughout Abu Dhabi as well as events such as Expo 2020 which has been postponed to October 2021-March 2022.

According to OU Kashrut CEO Rabbi Menachem Genack, UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was behind a directive issued by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, telling hotels to be prepared to offer kosher cuisine options to their guests, upon request.

Directive to hotels to “go kosher” in Abu Dhabi
The instructions, issued Tuesday (Sept. 8) were addressed to the General Managers of the capital city’s hotels, saying, “Based on the commitment of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi to ensure certain foods are available for all visitors and tourists in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, please note that all hotel establishments are advised to include Kosher food options on room service menus and at all food & beverage outlets in their establishments.”

The hotels were instructed to “seek Kosher certification for handling kosher meals; to designate an area in all kitchens for Kosher food preparation; and to label Kosher menu items with a clear and visible label/reference with a recognizable symbol that denotes “Kosher” as per acquired certification.”

The directive ends with a pleasant, “Thank you for your cooperation and adherence to implement Kosher food standards in Abu Dhabi.”

A selection of tailored menus is to be made available to those requesting kosher cuisine, all of which will be packaged and sealed with the OU stamp that certifies the food is kosher and has not been tampered with.

This follows the successful kashrut supervision by the OU over the kosher food for the historic visit of the US and Israeli delegations to Abu Dhabi last week. All of those meals were prepared by Elli’s Kosher Kitchen, a catering service founded and owned by Ellie Krielle, who started the first-ever kosher catering company in the UAE upon moving to Dubai from South Africa with her family six years ago.

Ellie started the company after realizing there was a lack of kosher catering options in Dubai, especially for Jewish travelers passing through who needed kosher food. Today Elli’s Kosher Kitchen caters for Emirates Airlines, local hotels, business and diplomatic events, as well as for tourists on vacation. Calling her cuisine “Kosherati” – kosher cooking with an Emirati twist — the original kosher certification came from the South African Beit Din; but Ellie recently asked the American Orthodox Union – a worldwide kashrut supervision organization – to step in.

“The OU came in at their request,” explains Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO and Director of Kashrut at the Orthodox Union (OU), who spoke with JewishPress.com on Wednesday in an online interview.

This past year, there have been many requests for kosher food in the Emirates, and the demand for Elli’s Kosher Kitchen catering is growing by leaps and bounds.

“Through her, Rabbi Issachar Krakowski — (a mashgiach kashruth, or kosher food supervisor) came from Israel and supervised the food arrangements relative to the delegation that came from Israel,” Rabbi Genack said.

He added that the supervision for the kashruth of the delegation was only the beginning.

“I was told that the Crown Prince (Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan) said that he wants for this Pesach to see the hotels full,” Rabbi Genack told JewishPress.com.

“They’ve built a shul, a church, and a mosque [at the ‘Abrahamic Family House’ interfaith complex in Abu Dhabi], and they have the hotels in the area there.

“At his directive, so to speak, he wants to see all those full this coming Pesach,” the rabbi said. (like Jews Have Nothing Else To  Be Concerned About Now)

“Hopefully the pandemic will have slowed down by January, and tourism will resume. A lot of people are going to want to go to the Emirates,” he added, and said the organization is going to have its hands full “in terms of trying to coordinate all of that.”

Nevertheless, the momentous nature of the task and the forces that brought it about, has given the rabbi much to think about.

“We’re happy to be involved in what’s really an historic relationship and hopefully portends well for other Arab countries,” he said. “In terms of the Emirates, it’s so important because it serves as a model for what could be.

“We know that the peace treaty with Egypt and Jordan, as significant as it is, is really government to government. It hasn’t really seeped down in terms of the general population. With the Emirates you have the feeling it’s not like that, it’s much broader, much deeper.”

Pesach in Acapulco Putz said...

If the beheadings of tourists in Acapulco by drug cartels or being held hostage by the hotel itself when the organizers slip out at 3 am without paying are getting boring, there are many more destinations for the Chevra Chazerim set!

Before the pandemic there was already a year or two of quietly advertised Pesach Fressing in Egyptian Sinai. It's a bit more toned down than Acapulco. There have only been a few rapes of frum teenage girls by the local Bedouin Arabs. And while ISIS is very active in Sinai & just loves uphocken Yiddishe kep, they never actually got around to targeting heimishe Pesach Fressers.

If you are mamash died in the wool Agudah who can't part with the original Fresser Convention hotel, that same hotel in decrepit Downtown Stamford has Pesach catering by Miser, I mean Meisner. But he really is a miser. And like in Egypt, he has a Pakki waiter who hits on the veiber & maydelach. There are also kashrus scandals there galore which the caterer's Open Orthodox son Moe is busy running around trying to cover up while the mashgiach turns a blind eye. If you ask very nicely, you can even get a waiter to bring you coffee creamer. Since Meisner is too cheap to buy any however, it will be brought from the chometz room that is supposed to be locked after the Agudah Fresser Convention crowd waddles home from gorging themselves with too much food.

Top rabbis in Ukraine have warned against a pilgrimage to Uman this year, after one of them fell seriously ill with coronavirus in the Eastern European nation.

Mendel Cohen, Chabad rabbi of Mariupol, was flown to Israel in critical condition in a sealed pod, as he needed urgent ECMO treatment, not available in Ukraine.

“Deterioration was quick,” Cohen told Ynet from his hospital bed at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center on Thursday, still wearing an oxygen mask.

“At least 150 Jews have died in Ukraine. The medical situation is so difficult. Doctors can’t keep up. There’s not enough medicine & oxygen concentrators.”

To those thinking of traveling, he said: “It’s a great danger.”

Rabbi Avraham Wolf, Chief Rabbi of Odessa, was harsher.

“I’ve been a rabbi in Ukraine for 30 years. We see a country in collapse. The health system is collapsing. The situation is catastrophic,” he told Ynet, He said members of the Jewish community “are begging to be hospitalized in medical facilities here in Odessa. It’s not that there are no vacant beds, there are no vacant chairs.”

Wolf begged them to refrain: “Go to your rabbis & ask, with the country in collapse, the health system in collapse & no way to help you if you get sick, do you still need to come.”

He added: “If someone comes here & gets sick, I’ll give you the last pills I have in the cabinet. We’ll give you our last oxygen concentrator. But we have 2 oxygen concentrators left & 3 ventilators. That’s it. Odessa won’t be able to help you.”

Flying Cohen out cost tens of thousands of dollars. “We won’t be able to do that for everyone.”

Each year, tens of thousands of pilgrims have gathered for the Jewish New Year in Uman, the burial place of Rabbi Nachman, 18th-century founder of the Bratslav Hasidic movement.

Israel’s virus czar Ronni Gamzu opposes the pilgrimage, which mostly draws ultra-Orthodox Jews, and received criticism from Prime Minister Netanyahu’s ultra-Orthodox coalition partners, who've sought to oust him after he sent a letter to Ukraine’s leaders urging them to ban the Uman gathering.

Last month Ukraine sealed its borders to foreigners to curb rising infections. Authorities also said they will limit gatherings in Uman. Still, many pilgrims have already arrived in the country, and though flights between Israel & Ukraine have stopped, there are concerns that worshipers will attempt to arrive from other countries by land.

Israel continues to be one of the world’s top countries in new cases per capita, with over 300 new cases a day per 1 million people, far surpassing the US at some 100 cases per million, and other countries such as Italy, the UK and South Korea, all at under 50 cases per million a day, noted in a report from the "Coronavirus National Information and Knowledge Center", operating under the IDF Military Intelligence Directorate (Ama"n) in cooperation with the Health Ministry.

Pesach Hotel Fresser said...

The Pesach caterer in Stam-Ferd, Meisner, is a fraudster in addition to a miser.

How many times have we met fellow Fresser Circuit chevra who at the mention of Meisner, shrivel in disgust & say "never again!"?

If there was ever a caterer who pinches every penny AND refuses to provide what was promised!

They are upfront about no 24 hour tea room but promise 24 hour coffee, which even that they are too karg to provide. And the so called tea room during operating hours? A bunch of inedible dreck sits there. Twice per afternoon, Moe empties ONE potato chip bag for 1000+ people!

There are some very odd behaviors from the crowd. Consider that Miser has two menus: His family & friends eat decently but everyone else starves unless they are from the early ones to grab the mostly unpalatable food by lunch. Couple this with Miser attracting the biggest bunch of LOW CLASS SHLEPPERS of any hotel. It is an explosive mix. Never mind that a single Fresser will grab all the potato chips for himself 2 seconds after Moe empties the bag. But there are 100s of cave men & women showing up for the kids dinner to steal from the children. Miser already purposely only provides a small fraction of hotdogs required for the child population. But then these barbarians jump in to body check the kids out of the way so they can TWO FIST their hotdog dinner away from them! Because it's an out of town community, the only supermarket with a Passover section is already wiped clean. So Hungry Fressers resort to drastic measures like you have never seen!

Miser, after sourcing stale Ukranian cardboard that costs half of the next cheapest matzos, even locks them up & refuses to provide so much as lechem mishna for Yomtov seudos!

And how did you enjoy your "roast" Yomtov lunch, consisting of a razor thin shaving? If you dare ask for more, the condescending Shvartz-Rican wait staff snarl with sinah & YELL at you: YOU CAN'T HAVE!

Ices, brand name soda & non-generic matzos - and enough of them - are only for Miser's family & friends who are a large entourage of maybe 200 people.

Moe "Skinny Jeans" Meisner (yes, he wears denim even on Yomtov) is probably the loser behind the dvar "Torah" sheets from crackpot Riskin.

The Misers only care about gelt, not frumkeit, so they leave the pool unlocked for the Open Orthodox to go swimming on Shabbos-Yomtov. Wet women in bikinis then wade through the crowd making Kiddush to get back to their rooms! And plenty of kashrus scandals noted by those looking closely which all boil down to Miser being CHEAP, that it was from costing less to something in a certain way.

Gerrorists anger the rest of the Fressers:

Housing and Construction Minister Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) resigned as minister on Sunday in protest of the anticipated lockdown over the Yamim Noraim.

Litzman’s position is opposed by the other Chareidi MKs, even those within his own party of Agudas Yisrael, who believe that the current time, with coronavirus infection rates at record levels as well as the draft law and the budget for yeshivos hanging in the balance, is not the appropriate time for resignation. According to a report by Chadrei B’Chareidim, Agudas Yisrael representatives said that Litzman’s move was done without coordination with representatives of the party and that “Litzman doesn’t have the mandate to resign and cause damage to the entire party.”

Litzman is resigning as a minister and will return to being a member of the Knesset

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said on Motzei Shabbos that there will be no negotiations regarding the lockdown.

Starting with last night's Selichos, is every shmayoichel who doesn't come to minyan the rest of the year, starts coming out of the woodwork until motzaei Yom Kippur. So the places are jam packed with chevra shouting the verter, which for each mispalel is producing as many virus particles as a non-stop coughing attack. Then the arba minim moichrim in claustrophobic basements or other confined spaces have all the medakdekim milling around for hours. Then Hoshana Rabba, then Hakofos.

The Agudah Fresser kol koraye for Yamim Noyraim may as well have been signed by Shmuel Kaminetzky alone because that's how he talks, to make up new frumma looking shtick, that if anything adds to the danger.

Don't skip even a single piyut by davening he says? For years the most Toradik yeshivos have skipped piyutim simply because they started going overtime. Many poskim have already called for minimizing the time spent in batei medrash this year even at the expense of parts of actual tefilla that can be skipped during emergencies.

This is similar to old Shmuel's shtick when he created a new taanis a few months ago - farkert from the bfeirush halacha in Shulchan Aruch assering a new taanis during a pandemic. The gedolei Eretz Yisroel were moyche against him in writing but did not name him. They really should start naming this out of control Philly maniac who for years has never met a public danger that he hasn't exacerbated; mamzerus, measles, coronavirus. Vos noch?
